Jelsum

Martenastate (Martena estate) in Cornjum, Netherlands, is an ancestral estate first owned by the noble family Martena, also written as van Martena, or even Martna (i.e., Martena without an e). This family belonged to the Dutch nobility (hoofdelingen). The building is now a museum. The first mention of a stins at the Martenastate in Cornjum dates back to 1468, when the family Martena lived there. The last male ancestor of the Martena line was Doecke van Martena, who died in 1605.After 1605, the Martenastate in Cornjum was owned and occupied by a succession of other noble families: the Aylva family, the Burmania family, and the Vegelin van Claerbergen family. On December 28, 1894 the last owner-occupant of Martena State in Cornjum, jonkheer Duco Martena van Burmania Vegelin van Claerbergen, died. He left the state to the church of Cornjum. In 1899, the house on the Martenastate was demolished, after which the present Martenastate was built, designed in neo-renaissance style by architect Pyter de Groot.There is a picture of the original Martenastate, Cornjum, in the Fries Museum (Leeuwarden), drawn by Jacobus Stellingwerf, dated 1722.

Koarnjum (Dutch: Cornjum) is a village in the municipality of Leeuwarden (Friesland province), in the Netherlands. The village is situated between Jelsum and Britsum and a population of around 370 in January 2017.

The village of Britsum is located in the municipality of Leeuwarden (province of Friesland), in the Netherlands. Britsum was built on an artificial bank (terp) running along the eastern side of the former Middelzee. The church, built around 1300, is also located on this bank. It had a population of about 910 citizens in January 2017.

Leeuwarden Air Base (Dutch: Vliegbasis Leeuwarden) is a military airbase used by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) - Dutch: Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu), (IATA: LWR, ICAO: EHLW). The airbase was formerly one of the two F-16 Fighting Falcon bases of the RNLAF. The airbase lies northwest of the capital of Friesland, Leeuwarden. Leeuwarden Air Base is also one of the three military airbases (together with Gilze-Rijen Air Base and Volkel Air Base) that organise the twice-in-three-years Luchtmachtdagen ('Air Force Days') of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, consisting of air shows and static exhibits. In 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2016 Leeuwarden Air Base hosted these public demonstration days.

Exercise Frisian Flag Is a major NATO multinational aerial exercise, held annually at Leeuwarden Air Base, Netherlands, over the North Sea and in the skies above the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.Missions flown during Frisian Flag included defensive and offensive air missions, protection of friendly aircraft and Close Air Support (CAS) strikes. Some missions call for Forward Air Controller units coordinate with fighter elements to attack ground targets. Surface-to-air missile systems enabled realistic exercise scenarios missions.A combat search and rescue element has been added to recent Frisian Flag exercises. Usually involving the rescue of downed air crew by ground forces with the assistance of fighters and helicopters.

De Kleine Molen (English: The Little Mill) is a smock mill in Stiens, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 1913 and moved in 1988. The mill is the smallest of its type in the Netherlands. In working order, it is listed as a Rijksmonument.

Tresoar (West Frisian for "treasure") is the short name for the Frysk Histoarysk en Letterkundich Sintrum ("Frisian History and Literature Center") in Leeuwarden. Tresoar manages digital archives about Friesland and its literature. There is a study room open to the public, and most catalogs are online and free to access. In addition to 2-dimensional material such as photographs, scanned books and documents, there is a growing collection of multi-media objects such as film and audio material that can also be searched and accessed online. Tresoar was created through a merger in 2002 of the Frisian Literature Museum with the Provincial Library and the National Frisian Archives. Tresoar functions as a regional historical center with a small exposition hall (the "treasure room"), and is located at Boterhoek 1, Leeuwarden. Since 2007, all 255 editions of the Leeuwarder Courant have been digitized and placed online.

The Oldehove is a leaning and unfinished church tower in the medieval centre of the Dutch city of Leeuwarden.Oldehove is also the name of an artificial mound (terp) on which in the late 9th century a (Catholic) church dedicated to Saint Vitus was built. Construction of the adjoining Late Gothic tower began in 1529, after the citizens of Leeuwarden demanded a tower taller than the one in the city of Groningen, the Martinitoren. In charge were Jacob van Aken (or Aaken) and, after his death, Cornelis Frederiksz. The tower's tilt began during construction. The builders tried to compensate for the tilt, but the project was stopped in 1532 (1533 according to another source). In 1595–1596, the then derelict church was demolished, but the tower remains. It consists mostly of brick, but the builders also used so-called Bentheim sandstone. There are two bells. A bell cast in 1633 by Hans Falck and a bell cast in 1637 by Jacob Noteman, weight 2,100 kg (4,630 lb). It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 24331.The height of the tower is 39 metres (127.95 feet). The tower has 183 steps. The top of the tower is displaced horizontally 2 metres (6 ft 7 in) from the centre. The original plan included attaching a new church to the tower, which would replace the old saint vitus church, but this was never realized. Custodian of the tower is Historisch Centrum Leeuwarden.

Lekkum is a village in Leeuwarden municipality in the Friesland province of the Netherlands. It had a population of around 405 in January 2017.De Bullemolen in Lekkum marks the finishing point of the Elfstedentocht.

Grote of Jacobijnerkerk (transl. Great, or Jacobin Church) is a Protestant church in the city of Leeuwarden, Netherlands. The square surrounding the church is the Jacobijnerkerkhof.
