Aylmer District

École secondaire Grande-Rivière, commonly abbreviated as ESGR or E.S.G.R. (both officially and non-officially), a francophone secondary school in Aylmer, Quebec. Its total population is over 2000, including 1992 students and 191 faculty members. Students from all social classes attend it, from the poorer suburbs to the richer neighbourhoods. It is therefore the seat of many different organizations and events, from science fairs to sports teams, and a myriad of things in between.

The Deschênes District (District 3) is a municipal district in the city of Gatineau, Quebec. It is represented on Gatineau City Council by Caroline Murray of Action Gatineau. The district is located in the Aylmer sector of the city. It is one of five districts in the sector. The district includes the neighbourhoods of Deschênes, Parc-Champlain, Lakeview-Terrasse, Mountain View, Kilroy Crescent part of Parc-Connaught and a number of new subdivisions in the north and east part of the former city of Aylmer. In 2013, the District lost some territory to the new Plateau District.In 2021, the District lost the eastern half of Lakeview-Terrasse as well as Parc-Champlain to the new Mitigomijokan District.

Aylmer is a former city in Quebec, Canada. It is located on the north shore of the Ottawa River and along Route 148. In January 2002, it amalgamated into the city of Gatineau, which is part of Canada's National Capital Region. Aylmer's population in 2011 was 55,113. It is named after Lord Aylmer, who was a governor general of British North America and a lieutenant governor of Lower Canada from 1830 to 1835. It bills itself as the "Recreation Capital of the National Capital", given its many golf courses, green spaces, spas, marina, and bicycle paths. There is little industry in the sector, the area being mainly residential. Virtually all the major shops, services, and restaurants are located along Chemin d'Aylmer. The sector's indoor swimming pool and skateboard park are also located on that road. The population of the Hull-Aylmer Federal electoral district, which combines the communities of Hull and Aylmer, was 105,419 in 2016. The 2016 census of Hull-Aylmer showed that the population was about 67% francophone, 18% anglophone, and 15% native speakers of other languages. Much of its workforce commutes across the river to Ottawa.

Connaught Park, later known as Hippodrome d'Aylmer, was a thoroughbred, steeplechase and harness racing track, later having a casino and live betting parlor, that operated from 1913 until 2009. The track was located in the Aylmer, Quebec district of Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, near Ottawa, Ontario. It had two tracks: a one-mile dirt track used until 1954 for thoroughbred racing, and a half-mile dirt track, used for harness racing. Racing ended in 2008 after its owner declared bankruptcy. The site was sold in 2009 for a housing development.

Western Québec School Board (WQSB, French: Commission scolaire Western Québec) is an English-language school district based in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. It was formerly a Protestant school district. The chairperson is James Shea, and the director general is Mike Dubeau.

Rivermead Golf Club is a private, 18 hole golf club in Aylmer, Quebec (now part of Gatineau). It is located 10 minutes from downtown Gatineau/Ottawa and is one of the oldest clubs in the National Capital Region. In 2010, the club celebrated its centennial anniversary.

Hull—Aylmer (formerly known as Hull) is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1917. It was created as "Hull" in 1914 from parts of Labelle and Wright ridings. It was renamed "Hull—Aylmer" in 1984. It encompasses the parts of the sectors of Hull and Aylmer located in the city of Gatineau, Quebec. The neighbouring ridings are Gatineau, Pontiac, Ottawa West—Nepean, Ottawa Centre, and Ottawa—Vanier. With its large percentage of civil servants, the riding was a Liberal stronghold for almost a century, and the safest Liberal riding in the province outside Greater Montreal. Even when the rest of the province was turning its back on the Liberals, they survived in Hull—Aylmer in 1984, 2004 and 2006. In 2008, however, it was the only riding in Canada where four candidates received over 15% of the vote, and was the only riding in Quebec outside the Montreal area the Liberals won. In a major turnaround during the 2011 elections, however, the New Democratic Party won the riding as part of its sweep of the Outaouais. To date, this is the only time the Liberals have lost this riding in an election. The winner of that election, Nycole Turmel, was the interim leader of the NDP from July 28, 2011 until March 24, 2012, following the death of NDP leader Jack Layton. The only other time it was out of Liberal hands was from 1990 to 1993, when Gilles Rocheleau crossed the floor to the Bloc Québécois. Hull—Aylmer lost territory to Pontiac during the 2012 electoral redistribution. It reverted to form at the 2015 election, when Liberal Greg Fergus handily defeated Turmel as part of the Liberals' clean sweep of the Outaouais.

The Britannia Yacht Club (BYC) is a private social club, yacht club, and tennis club based in Britannia, a neighborhood in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1887 by a group of cottagers.The BYC is located on an extension of land at the eastern end of Lac Deschênes, near the Deschênes Rapids on the Ottawa River. A land block owned by the National Capital Commission on the south side of the harbor is leased to the BYC. The area immediately south of the property is occupied by residences of Britannia Bay. The harbor was built from an abandoned power canal, which now lays beside the club property, and has been expanded twice since its original development. The harbor's water level is controlled by a system of stop logs at its entrance. The BYC is a member of the Ontario Sailing Association, Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons, and the Canadian Yachting Association. Its officers include a Commodore, Vice-Commodore, Rear-Commodore, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Britannia Village (est. 1818) has a rich history and architecture, having been founded some eight years before Bytown (est. 1826), the former name of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The history of the village is interwoven with the creation of the adjacent Britannia Amusement Park, today simply known as Britannia Park. The character of villagers is significantly influenced by its natural surroundings. Geographically, the village is located on a broad peninsula and is largely defined by natural boundaries. According to the Ottawa Neighborhood Study, the village is bordered by the Ottawa River to the North, Lac Deschênes and Britannia Park to the west, the Trans Canada Trail to the south, and Mud Lake (Britannia Conservation Area) to the east. Lac Deschênes is home to 4 sailing clubs including the Britannia Yacht Club which is located in the village. The village also borders on Britannia Beach, one of four beaches in Ottawa. Britannia Road is the only road into and out of the village and the only access to the Britannia Water Purification Plant.The village has a total population of 610 people in 270 private households; it is a sub-neighborhood of the Britannia area of Bay Ward, in the west end of Ottawa about 13 km from the Canadian Parliament Buildings. The village has an active association (Britannia Village Community Association or BVCA) and a community Facebook page (Friends of Britannia Village).

Lac Deschênes is a 44 kilometres (27 miles) long lake on the Ottawa River that runs from the Chats Falls Dam near Fitzroy Harbour in the west to the Deschênes Rapids at Britannia in the east. It is a little over 3.2 kilometres (2.0 miles) wide at its widest point and little more than a few hundred metres at its narrowest. The provincial border between Ontario and Quebec runs through the length of the lake with the City of Ottawa on its southern shore and the city of Gatineau on much of its northern shore. The shoreline is mostly gently sloped and composed of broken limestone interspersed with smaller sections of aquatic shoreline vegetation or mudflats. Above the Chats Falls Dam is Lac des Chats. Below Britannia is a series of rapids and waterfalls culminating with the Chaudière Falls. Between the rapids and the falls, the river is not navigable.

Britannia is a group of neighbourhoods in Bay Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the Ottawa River across from Aylmer, Quebec, adjacent to its namesake, Britannia Bay, north of Richmond Road, west of the Kichi Zibi Mikan and east of Boyce Avenue. The total population of this area was 6,692 as of the 2016 census. The area constituted a municipal ward from 1973 to 1994 (Britannia Ward). The area has a mix of low and high income housing. The lower income areas of the area are closer to Richmond Road in the south, and the more affluent areas are located in the community of Britannia Village in the north, which includes the Britannia Yacht Club at the north end of Britannia Road. Many of Britannia's old cottages live on as bungalows. Surrounded by water, forest, and hills. The Ottawa River Pathway is a very long segment of Capital Pathway along the south bank of almost the entire length Ottawa's portion of the Ottawa River. A bike path extends from Britannia some 12 kilometres to the Parliament buildings downtown. Today, there is probably no neighbourhood in Ottawa more mixed than Britannia forming a contrast with many of the homogenized satellite communities that have become Ottawa.

The Nepean Sailing Club (NSC) is a sailing club located on Lac Deschênes in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The club is based in Dick Bell Park, along Carling Avenue, adjacent to Andrew Haydon Park in the former city of Nepean.
