De Alde Feanen National Park (official, combination of Dutch and Frisian: Nationaal Park De Alde Feanen) is a national park in the Netherlands province of Friesland. The Alde Feanen is also a Natura 2000 area. The Alde Feanen is part of the municipalities Leeuwarden, Smallingerland and Tytsjerksteradiel. Its size is about 25 km2 (9.7 sq mi). Part of the national park is the lake area Princenhof (or Princehof). The Alde Feanen contains morasses, lakes, forests, peat and meadows. In the area at least 450 plant species and 100 bird species can be found. A very prominent bird is the white stork (Ciconia ciconia). Tall wooden poles have been installed so that the storks can build nests. Another attraction is provided by Shetland ponies. Some of the paddocks can be entered so that ponies can be petted by visitors. In the village of Earnewâld there is a visitors centre, De Reidplûm, close to the stork breeding station It Eibertshiem. The area is owned by It Fryske Gea since 1934. After a preparation period of 4 years, the Minister of Nature designed it as the 20th (As of 2012, the last) national park in the Netherlands in 2006. In the Alde Feanen are several monumental wind mills, such as 'De Ikkers', a so-called 'spinnenkopmolen' from the 18th century.

Warstiens is a small village in Leeuwarden municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 35 in January 2017.

The van Harinxmakanaal is a major canal in western Frisland. It runs from the sea at Harlingen eastwards to Leeuwarden. Major places along the canal include Franeker, Dronrijp and Deinum. The canal is 37.5 kilometers long. It was named after Pieter Albert Vincent van Harinxma thoe Slooten in 1950 who was King's Commissioner to Friesland from 1909 to 1945. Prior to this date it was called Harlinger Trekvaart. However this was widened and deepened, and a few corners cut off in 1951. At Suawoude it joins the Prinses Margrietkanaal. The lock Tsjerk Hiddessluizen situated at the connection to the Harlingen harbour maintains the water level in the canal. The canal water level is connected to the water system called Friese boezem, consisting of lakes, waterways and canals in Friesland.

Suwâld (Dutch: Suawoude) is a village in Tytsjerksteradiel municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 652 in January 2017.The village has a solar powered ferry for transporting pedestrians and bicycles called Schalkediep. It travels on the Prinses Margrietkanaal from Garyp.

Lytse Geast (Dutch: Kleinegeest) is a hamlet in Tytsjerksteradiel in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. Lytse Geast is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Tytsjerk.The hamlet was first mentioned in 1543 as Lutke Geest, and means "little higher elevated sand ground", and was a little island in a bog. Lytse Geast was home to 75 people in 1840. It used to have a bakery and a grocery store, however the supermarkets caused the demise of the retail. Nowadays, it consists of about 60 houses inhabited by commuters.The polder mill Swarte Prinsch was built in Lytse Geast in 1900 and was in commission until 1959. In 1967, it became a recreational home.

De Borgmolen is a smock mill in Grou, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 2008. Although not in full working order, it can turn in the wind. It is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 22916.

The Ouddeelsmolen, Lytse Geast or Swarte Prinsch (Black Prince) is a smock mill in Tytsjerk, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 1900 and has been converted to a holiday cottage. Restored so that it can turn in the wind, it is listed as a Rijksmonument.

Froskepôlemolen is a smock mill in Leeuwarden, Friesland, Netherlands which dates from 1896 but was rebuilt on its present site in 1962. The mill has been restored to working order and is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 24507.
