Lower Slaughter

Upper Slaughter is a village in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England, 4 miles (6.4 km) south west of Stow-on-the-Wold. Nearby places include Lower Slaughter, Bourton-on-the-Water and Daylesford. The village is built on both banks of the River Eye. The Anglican parish church is dedicated to St. Peter.Upper Slaughter was one of the Thankful Villages, amongst the small number in England which lost no men in World War I. The village also lost no men in World War II, an honour known as a Doubly Thankful Village. The parliamentary constituency is represented by Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP.

Brassey (grid reference SP139223) is a 2.1-hectare (5.2-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1954 and renotified in 1983. It is situated on the north side of the Windrush Valley, midway between Naunton and Upper Slaughter. The reserve comprises sloping, unimproved limestone pasture. There is a fast-flowing stream. This site is one of the few freshwater marshes in Gloucestershire. The stream joins the River Windrush. The site is in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site is listed in the 'Cotswold District' Local Plan 2001–2011 (on line) as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).The site is named after a previous owner, and was formerly farmland and water-cress beds. A waterwheel and wheelhouse pumped water to a reservoir on the hill above. The site has been managed by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust since 1964 and is part of a larger SSSI named Brassey Reserve and the Windrush Valley which is a 14.48-hectare (35.8-acre) site. In 1974 the Thames Water Authority assumed control of Seven Springs Marsh Pumping Station, which was constructed in the early 1950s and the rest of the site. The SSSI has eight units and the Brassey nature reserve is unit 1 and unit 7.

The Cotswold School is an 11 to 18 academy school located in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, Great Britain. The school achieved academy status in September 2010. The principal from 2012 is Mr Will Morgan. The school roll in 2016 sits at 1320 (with approximately 250 of those students in The Cotswold School's sixth form). In 2012 the Secretary of State for Education recognised, in a formal letter to the school, the consistent improvement in GCSE results. In November 2015 The Sunday Times ranked The Cotswold School 12th in the Top 20 Comprehensive Schools in England and Wales for both A Level and GCSE, subsequently naming it their ‘Comprehensive School of the Year 2015/16’. In August 2016, 36% of examinations at A-Level were awarded A* or A and 88% were awarded grades at A*-C. The Cotswold Sixth Form was ranked 1st amongst comprehensives in Gloucestershire and 19th in the country in published league tables (Daily Telegraph, Aug 2016). Meanwhile, 92% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE and 52% of students achieved the EBacc.

Bourton-on-the-Water railway station was a Gloucestershire railway station on the Great Western Railway's Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway which opened in 1881 and closed in 1964.

Bourton-on-the-Water model village is a scale model village in the grounds of the Old New Inn in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, England. One of the first model villages in the country, it was started in 1936 and completed in 1940. The model represents the core of Bourton-on-the-Water as it appeared in 1936 in 1:9 scale. The model village contains around 100 buildings. It is open to the public and includes exhibitions of other models on smaller scales.

Birdland Park and Gardens, often called Birdland, is a wildlife park in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, England. First opened in 1957, the park moved to its current site in 1989. Birdland began in the 5-acre (2.0 ha) grounds of a Tudor manor house called Chardwar and was started by Len Hill, who was often referred to as the Penguin Millionaire.

Lower Swell is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Swell, in the Cotswold district, in the county of Gloucestershire, England. It is located at the River Dikler, one mile from Stow-on-the-Wold. The village has "finest countryside, a tranquil village green and plenty of mellow stone cottages". The village church is dedicated to St. Mary. In 1931 the parish had a population of 360.

Bourton Rovers Football Club is a football club based in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, England. Affiliated to the Gloucestershire County Football Association, The club are currently members of the Hellenic Football League and play at Rissington Road. Their nickname is the Rovers.

Lower Swell War Memorial is a First World War memorial in the centre of the village of Lower Swell in Gloucestershire in south-western England. The memorial, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, was unveiled in 1921 and is today a grade II listed building.
