Avenue is a 425 feet (130 m) tall skyscraper in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was completed in 2007 and has 36 floors. Its construction began on May 17, 2005. It has 6,700 square feet (620 m2) of retail space at street level. The average unit size of its 386 apartments is 900 sq ft (80 m2). The 0.8 acres (3,237.5 m2) site was originally proposed 201 North Tryon Residential Tower.

The Dunhill Hotel is a hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina. A member of Historic Hotels of America, it was built in 1929 as Mayfair Manor Hotel Apartments, designed by Louis Asbury Sr. in Classical Revival style. The 10-story Mayfair Manor opened in November 1929 with 100 rooms, catering to both transient and permanent guests. On its opening, The Charlotte Observer ranked it "among Charlotte's largest and finest buildings" and called it "an impressive addition to Charlotte's already imposing skyline."The property deteriorated in the 1960s and 1970 before closing in 1981 and lying vacant for several years. After new owners Brad Holcomb and Doug Patterson renovated the hotel at a reported cost of $6 million, it reopened in 1988 with 60 rooms and operating under a new name – the Dunhill Hotel. In 1991, the Dunhill was accepted into the Historic Hotels of America program run by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.The renovated hotel had trouble sustaining business and ended up filing for bankruptcy. In 1990, the hotel's lender, Southeastern Federal Savings Bank, foreclosed on the property and became the owner. In 1991, the bank sold the property to developers Gene Singleton and Doyle Parrish for $2.1 million. It received an award from the Historic Hotels of America in 2017 as the Best Historic Small Inn or Hotel.In 2019, Parrish's company, Summit Hospitality Group, began a $2-million renovation.The hotel is reportedly haunted by a ghost named Dusty, and certain rooms have also been reported to be haunted.

The Carolina Theatre in Charlotte, North Carolina, is a historic movie house currently undergoing restoration to become a performing arts center and civic convening space. The theatre is owned by the nonprofit Foundation For The Carolinas.

The Bank of America Corporate Center is an 871 ft (265 m) skyscraper in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. Designed by Argentine architect César Pelli and HKS Architects, and best known as the headquarters of the namesake Bank of America, it has been the tallest building in North Carolina since its 1992 construction, and is the 31st-tallest building in the United States as well as the 174th-tallest building in the world. Sometimes locally referred to as the "Taj McColl" after former Bank of America CEO Hugh McColl, who was responsible for the tower's construction, on a clear day the tower is visible to the naked eye from 35 miles (56 km) away.

Blumenthal Performing Arts (also NC Blumenthal Center and NCBPAC) is located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It opened in 1992 and is named in honor of the people of the state of North Carolina and the Blumenthal Foundation established by I.D. Blumenthal who founded RSC Brands, the largest private donor to the capital campaign. The idea for the center dates back to the late 1970s. Momentum for the project grew in the 1980s resulting in a $15 million allocation from the state of North Carolina, approval of a $15 million bond by the citizens of Charlotte and an additional $32 million contributed by individuals, corporations and foundations. In 1987 the Belk Brothers donated a valuable piece of land as the site of the new theatre complex. Total construction cost for the Blumenthal Center was over $62 million.

Discovery Place Science is a science and technology museum designed for all ages, located in Uptown, Charlotte, North Carolina. The facility's exhibits and activities focus on hands-on experiences; it features a "Thinker Space" and labs, a two story urban rain forest, aquariums, live animal exhibits, stages for demonstrations, space for traveling exhibits, and event space. Discovery Place Science also operates The Charlotte Observer IMAX Dome Theater, also referred to as an OMNIMAX theater. It is the largest IMAX Dome Theater in the Carolinas.The museum opened in 1981 and was renovated in 2010. The IMAX Dome was opened in 1991. The theater-naming rights were secured by The Charlotte Observer.

The Independence Building was a 186-foot (57 m) high-rise in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, United States. It was built in 1909 by J.A. Jones Construction and imploded on September 27, 1981 to make way for 101 Independence Center. It originally had 12 floors but 2 more were added in 1928. It was the tallest commercial building in North Carolina, overtaking the title previously held by the Masonic Temple Building in Raleigh. The height of the Independence Building was surpassed by the Jefferson Standard Building in Greensboro in 1923.The building was later demolished. In 1981, the 101 Independence Center was built at the former site of the building.

Old Settlers' Cemetery is a city-owned cemetery located at 200 West 5th Street, right in the middle of Charlotte, North Carolina. It was the first municipal burial ground in Charlotte and contains the graves of many early settlers, with gravesites dating from 1776 through 1884. Prominent people buried in Old Settlers' include Nathaniel Alexander, Greene Washington Caldwell, Revolutionary War hero Major General George Graham, and Thomas Polk, Charlotte founding father and great-uncle of United States President James K. Polk. Also contained in the cemetery is an obelisk honoring North Carolina planter and politician William Davidson.Old Settlers' was Charlotte's only city operated cemetery until 1854, when—due to space limitations—it was closed and the City opened Elmwood/Pinewood Cemetery. By the 1940s the cemetery was in poor condition and was only preserved through the efforts of Charlotte historian and legislator Julia McGehee Alexander.Old Settlers' Cemetery recently had a $500,000 restoration. With its majestic old oaks and brick lined pathways, it is more park than cemetery and is a centerpiece of Charlotte's Fourth Ward Historic District.

Thomas Polk (c. 1732–January 25, 1794) was a planter, military officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1781, and a politician who served in the North Carolina House of Commons, North Carolina Provincial Congress, and Council of State. Polk commanded the 4th North Carolina Regiment in the Battle of Brandywine. In 1786, Polk was elected by the North Carolina General Assembly to the Congress of the Confederation, but did not attend any of its sessions. Polk was a great-uncle of the 11th President of the United States, James K. Polk.

Tryon Street is a streetcar station in Charlotte, North Carolina. The at-grade dual side platforms on West Trade Street are a stop along the CityLynx Gold Line, serving Independence Square and the second largest financial hub of the United States.

Merchants and Farmers National Bank Building was a historic bank building in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built in 1871–1872, a three-story, brick building with a stuccoed front and Italianate style cast iron trim manufactured by the Mecklenburg Iron Works. The building housed Independent Order of Odd Fellows lodges that met there from the 1870s through 1920. It was the oldest surviving commercial building in the central business district of Charlotte until it was demolished in 1989. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The building was demolished in 1989 to make room for construction of the new corporate headquarter of NCNB, which later became Bank of America. Currently, the Bank of America Corporate Center sits at the former location of the building.
