John Rutledge House

The Edward Rutledge House, also known as the Carter-May House and now The Governor's House Inn, is a historic house at 117 Broad Street in Charleston, South Carolina. This 18th-century house was the home of Founding Father Edward Rutledge (1749–1800), a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence and later Governor of South Carolina. Despite many changes to the house, it retains its 18th-century core dating to about 1760, and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1971.

St. Andrew's Hall was a public building in Charleston, South Carolina, on Broad Street. The hall served as headquarters for the St. Andrew's Society of Charleston, South Carolina. It was also an important part of the social life of upper-class Charlestonians. It was used for balls, banquets, concerts, and meetings of organizations like the South Carolina Jockey Club and the St. Cecilia Society. The hall could also be used for lodging, and both President James Monroe and General Marquis de Lafayette stayed there. On December 19, 1860, delegates from South Carolina met at St. Andrew's Hall to discuss possible secession from the United States. The following day, they met in Institute Hall on Meeting Street, which became known as Secession Hall and voted 169 to 0 to secede. South Carolina delegates later ratified the Confederate Constitution there on April 3, 1861. South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union. The St. Andrew's Hall as well as Secession Hall were both destroyed during a Charleston fire on December 11, 1861

The Ralph Izard is a pre-Revolutionary house at 110 Broad St., Charleston, South Carolina. Although the house is known as the Ralph Izard House, it was likely built by a former owner, William Harvey. The house was listed in the will of Izard of September 1757, but Izard had only acquired the parcel three months before his death.In 1837, the house was sold to Joel Roberts Poinsett and Mary Poinsett. They held the house for more than twenty years before selling it to Judge Mitchell King, a municipal judge and trustee for the College of Charleston. Among his descendants who occupied the house was George D. Bryan, a mayor of Charleston.

The Diocese of Charleston (Latin: Dioecesis Carolopolitana) is aLatin Church ecclesiastical territory, or diocese, of the Catholic Church for the state of South Carolina in the United States. Currently, the diocese consists of 96 parishes and 21 missions, with Charleston as its see city. As of 2023, the bishop of Charleston is Jacques Fabre-Jeune. The Diocese of Charleston is the seventh-oldest Catholic diocese in the United States. It is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

The John Lining House is one of the oldest houses in Charleston. Although the lot upon which the house stands was first conveyed to French Huguenot immigrant Jaques DeBordeaux in 1694, it is uncertain when the house was built; the first mention of a house appears in a 1715 deed by which the property, including a dwelling, was conveyed to William Harvey, Jr. In 1757, the house was received by Mrs. Sarah Lining, the wife of Dr. John Lining. Although the couple owned the house for less than one year before transferring it to John Rattray, Dr. Lining's name stuck as the name of the dwelling. In 1780, the building was acquired by Dr. Andrew Turnbull, the founder of New Smyrna, Florida, who opened in the house the first of a long series of apothecary shops which remained until 1960. In 1960, the house was in danger of being demolished, but it was bought by the Preservation Society of Charleston in late 1961 and restored at a cost of $75,000.

The Cathedral of St. John and St. Finbar was the first Roman Catholic cathedral in Charleston, South Carolina. The cathedral followed the first Roman Catholic Church in Charleston, St. Mary's, founded around 1800. Construction began in 1850 with the cathedral consecrated on April 6, 1854. It was destroyed on December 11, 1861, in a fire that ravaged much of Charleston. A new cathedral—the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, built on the same site-was started in 1890. It opened in 1907 and was completed in 2010 with the addition of the long-anticipated steeple.

The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston, located in Charleston, South Carolina. Designed by Brooklyn architect Patrick Keely in the Gothic Revival style, it opened in 1907. The Most Reverend Jacques E. Fabre, the fourteenth Bishop of Charleston, was ordained and installed on May 13, 2022

The Charles Pinckney House is an 18th-century house at 7 Orange Street, Charleston, South Carolina. Alexander Petrie bought the lot in 1747 and constructed the current 2 1/2 story house on a high basement sometime before 1770. The mantels and woodworking are original, but other features including floors and large sliding doors to the parlors date to the early 19th century.Charles Pinckney was thirteen years old when his father bought 7 Orange Street in 1770, and the family resided at the house until 1778. The house held the record for the highest price for a Charleston house when it sold in July 2001 for $4,075,000. It held that title until September 2003.

The Dr. Henry Frost Office at 98 Broad Street is composed of a front portion that appears to date from the mid-19th century and a rear portion that appears to be much older. The land upon which 98 Broad Street was built was owned by famous loyalist and horticulturalist Alexander Garden when he was forced to abandon the property when Charleston fell to the colonial forces in 1782.The rear portion of the current building includes a massive chimney and was perhaps a small kitchen house behind Dr. Garden's house. In the mid-1990s, the rear portion of the building (sometimes referred to as 98 1/2 Broad Street) was in danger of being demolished to make way for an annex to the Charleston County Courthouse.The bulk of the current building was apparently built by Dr. Henry Frost in about 1835 and used as an office. In the 20th century, the building was owned by Dr. William Horlbeck Frampton, a doctor working for Standard Oil. When Belvidere Plantation was being demolished by Standard Oil, Dr. Frampton salvaged some of its early 19th century woodwork and installed it in the front portion of 98 Broad Street.

The Blake Tenements were built between 1760 and 1772 by Daniel Blake, a planter from Newington Plantation on the Ashley River. The building was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. The building was renovated for use as an annex to a nearby county office building in 1969.

The David Ramsay House is an historic home in Charleston, South Carolina. It was built before 1740.Dr. David Ramsay (historian) arrived in Charleston in 1773 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania and made his home at 92 Broad Street soon after. He practiced as a doctor; he was the first person to introduce a smallpox vaccine into Charleston. But he is better known for his political service. Dr. Ramsay also served in the Continental Congress from 1782 to 1786 and in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1776 to 1783. Later, from 1801 to 1815, he was a state senator.The Georgian woodwork in the house, especially in the main parlor on the first floor, is particularly fine. It has been described by architects as "the most perfect example of Georgian paneling in America." In 1934, the house was recorded by the CWA.

The Colonel John Stuart House is a historic house at 104-106 Tradd Street in Charleston, South Carolina. Built in 1772, four years before the American Revolution, it is the city's oldest known example of a side-hall plan house. It is nationally significant as the home of Colonel John Stuart, who was the King's Superintendent of Indian Affairs in the South. He improved relations with the Five Civilized Tribes, especially the Cherokee Nation between the Seven Years' War and the American Revolutionary War. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973.
