Alfred Deakin High School is a government secondary school in Deakin, Australian Capital Territory, covering years 7 to 10 in the Territory's education system. It is named after the second Australian Prime Minister, Alfred Deakin.

The Royal Australian Mint is the sole producer of all of Australia's circulating coins and is a Commonwealth Government entity operating within the portfolio of the Treasury. The Mint is situated in the Australian federal capital city of Canberra, in Denison St, in the suburb of Deakin. The Mint was opened in 1965 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Before the opening of the Australian Mint, Australian coins were struck at the Sydney Mint, Melbourne Mint and Perth Mint. As such, the Royal Australian Mint was the first mint in Australia to be independent of the British Royal Mint, in the United Kingdom, which was a British government entity. (Of the three older Australian mints, only Perth Mint has remained; it was a subsidiary of the UK Royal Mint until 1970.)

The Big Coins is a group of sculptures located in Deakin, Australian Capital Territory next to the Royal Australian Mint, depicting the coins of the Australian dollar. The circle on the left is not a coin, but shows "Est. 1965", denoting the year the Royal Australian Mint was opened.

The Deakin Telephone Exchange is an exchange established in 1965, the bottom floor of which was used in the NASA Communications Network (NASCOM) until 1988, when the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex took over its role.In 1976 a new telephone exchange complex began construction behind the original one to meet the demands of the rapidly growing population. The new complex was to be much larger and include space for commercial lease. By 1980 the complex had completed construction, but lay empty for over a year due to contract issues with tenants and the old facility meeting the needs of the population.Previous to the establishment of the exchange an underground fire had been located underneath a tip behind the complex, in 1987 concerns were raised about the stability of the ground and the possibility of the fire still existing after smoke rose from the ground. The ACT Electricity Authority examined the site and found it safe.In 1983 a National Computing Centre for the Department of Social Security was established in the new complex, before being privatised in 1992.On 25 March 1992 the telephone exchange was upgraded from analogue equipment to digital.

Canberra Croatia Football Club is an Australian semi-professional soccer club based in the suburb of Deakin in the south of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory founded in 1958. The club currently competes in the National Premier Leagues Capital Football. Since 1960, Canberra Croatia has always competed in the top level of ACT soccer either side of a brief stint in the top level of NSW soccer between 1988 and 1994. They are the most successful soccer club in ACT history with 23 league premierships and 18 finals championships and ACT Federation Cups collected.

The Yarralumla brickworks, also known as the Commonwealth Brickworks, was one of the earliest construction projects in Canberra, Australia. It was built in the suburb of Yarralumla to produce the bricks used to build many of Canberra's early buildings. It opened in around 1913 and operated until its closure in 1976. It is known for producing the bricks used to build itself. Narrow gauge goods railway lines for the transportation of bricks linked Yarralumla to some of the major building sites in central Canberra such as Old Parliament House, and the Kingston Power House. No sign of this early Canberra transport system remains today. The original brick kilns were built according to Walter Burley Griffin's designs with fan forced short chimneys intended to stay below the height of the surrounding pine trees. In 1950 after World War II increased building demands in Canberra meant that a large 46 metre natural-draft chimney was built for the new kilns. This greatly increased brick production capacity. The tall chimney is visible from many locations around central Canberra. In recent years a report found that the tall chimney was not earthquake-safe. As the chimney was heritage listed and located within falling distance of nearby homes, an engineering firm was called in to make it safe. A frame was built inside the chimney to support it without affecting its external appearance. The brickworks today is closed to the public but has had various uses over the past 20 years. There have been several recent ideas that haven't eventuated, including using the site for Canberra's new gaol, making the site the new permanent home for Floriade (a yearly Canberra flower festival) or to turn the brickworks into a holiday resort. Future plans for the site are still undecided. As of February 2015 it was proposed that a housing estate could be constructed on the site, consisting of 1800 dwellings.

Deakin (postcode: 2600) is a suburb of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia. Development began in the 1920s, although the vast majority of the suburb was built after 1945. It is a largely residential suburb. It includes The Lodge (the official residence of the Prime Minister), and the Royal Australian Mint.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canberra is the diplomatic mission of Sri Lanka to Australia. The high commission is also accredited to Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu. The current high commissioner is Mrs. Chitranganee Wagiswara. The immediate predecessors were Mr. Somasundaram Skandakumar and Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, the former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy.
