Nishi-Ōi Station

Nikon's Ohi plant in the Ōi district of Shinagawa, Tokyo was first built in 1918 after the formation of Nippon Kogaku K.K. in 1917. Nikon's first camera, the Nikon (1946) was made in this plant. Early cameras like the Nikon I (1948), Nikon M (1949), Nikon S rangefinders and Nikon F,F2 were also made in this plant. The development of specialized cameras for NASA's space program was also carried out at the Ohi plant.

As of 1 April 2016, the Ward had an estimated population of 380,293 and a population density of 16,510 persons per km2. The total area is 22.84 km2.Shinagawa is also commonly used to refer to the business district around Shinagawa Station, which is not in Shinagawa Ward. This Shinagawa is in the Takanawa and Konan neighborhoods of Minato Ward, directly north of Kita-Shinagawa.

Ōmori (大森) is a district located a few kilometres south of Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan accessed by rail via the Keihin Tohoku line, or by road via Dai Ichi Keihin. Ōmorikaigan, the eastern area of Ōmori, can be reached via the Keikyu line. Ōmori is one of many areas in Tokyo's largest ward, Ōta-ku, but as Ōmori train station is located close to the border with Shinagawa-ku, some buildings bearing the name Ōmori, such as the Omori Bell Port complex, are located in Shinagawa-ku. Prior to its development as a residential and business location, Ōmori was a fishing village along the Tōkaidō Highway and famous for its farming of nori seaweed, a staple of the Japanese diet.
