The canton of La Montagne noire is an administrative division of the Tarn department, southern France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Labruguière.It consists of the following communes:

It is located in the Tarn department, in the Occitania region, southern France. Created in 1999, its seat is in Castres. Its area is 406.1 km2. Its population was 78,275 in 2019, of which 42,079 in Castres proper.

Saint-Affrique-les-Montagnes (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃.t‿afʁik le mɔ̃taɲ]; Occitan: Sant Africa de las Montanhas) is a commune in the Tarn department in southern France.

The Jardin botanique Pierre Fabre "La Michonne" (4 hectares), also known as the Conservatoire botanique Pierre Fabre, is a private botanical garden maintained by the nonprofit Institut Klorane. It is located on the Avenue d'Albi, Castres, Tarn, Midi-Pyrénées, France. The garden was established by Pierre Fabre, who in 1965 acquired Klorane, a small company near Paris specializing in the manufacture of soaps, and subsequently built it into a large commercial success. In 1994 he created the nonprofit Institut Klorane to help protect the environment, and in 2001 the institute opened the garden and conservatory in Fabre's home town of Castres with the missions of scientific study, preservation of endangered species, and public education. Today the garden contains more than 900 plant species, with an emphasis on medicinal, cosmetic, and edible plants, on a site that includes a former mansion, conservatory greenhouses, and outdoor garden (5000 m²). The greenhouse includes a tropical room (120 species), Mediterranean room, and arid room for cactus and succulents. The Institut Klorane also maintains a botanical trail in Carla and the botanical conservatory "Dal Mas Bosc" in Cambounet-sur-le-Sor.

Castres (French: [kastʁ] ; Castras in the Languedocian dialect of Occitan) is the sole subprefecture of the Tarn department in the Occitanie region in Southern France. It lies in the former province of Languedoc, although not in the former region of Languedoc-Roussillon. In 2018, the commune had a population of 41,795. Castres is the fourth-largest industrial centre of the predominantly rural former Midi-Pyrénées region after Toulouse, Tarbes and Albi, as well as the largest in the part of Languedoc lying between Toulouse and Montpellier. It is noted for being the birthplace of the famous socialist leader Jean Jaurès (1859–1914) and home to the important Goya Museum of Spanish painting.

The Thoré (French pronunciation: [tɔʁe]) is a 61.6-kilometre-long (38.3 mi) river in the Hérault and Tarn departments in southern France. Its source is in the northern part of Rieussec. It flows generally northwest. It is a left tributary of the Agout, into which it flows between Navès and Castres.
