83rd Street station

St. Michael (Polish: Kościół Świętego Michała) is a church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. The current church is located at E. 83rd Street and S. South Shore Drive in South Chicago, a neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It is a prime example of the so-called "Polish Cathedral style" of churches in both its opulence and grand scale. Along with Immaculate Conception, it is one of the two monumental Polish churches dominating over the South Chicago neighborhood.

South Chicago, formerly known as Ainsworth, is one of the 77 community areas of Chicago, Illinois. This chevron-shaped community is one of Chicago's 16 lakefront neighborhoods near the southern rim of Lake Michigan 10 miles south of downtown. A working-class neighborhood, it is bordered by East 79th Street on the north, South Chicago Avenue (the Chicago Skyway) on the southwest, a small stretch of East 95th Street on the south. With the Calumet River on the community's southeast side, South Chicago can be considered the gateway to the Calumet Region and the one of the four Chicago neighborhoods (East Side, Hegewisch and South Deering) that are considered by the locals as part of Chicago's Southeast Side. The Southeast Side is a description that the city itself continues to resist, including this neighborhood with all of Chicago's South Side communities.

Cheltenham (also known as Cheltenham–79th Street) is a station on the Hyde Park/South Chicago branch of the Metra Electric Line. The station is located along the median of Exchange Avenue, approximately one city block north of East 79th Street, and is 11.49 miles (18.49 km) away from the northern terminus at Millennium Station. As of 2018, Cheltenham is the 213th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 47 weekday boardings.West of this station is another Metra Electric station along 79th Street known as 79th Street (Chatham) along the Main Branch. Street-side parking is available only on Cheltenham Place, which also intersects with 79th Street and Northbound Exchange Avenue. The station was recently renovated in 2008 as part of Metra's redevelopment program for the South Chicago branch. According to a 2014 study commissioned by the Regional Transportation Authority, the Cheltenham station is an urban neighborhood station. The surrounding area of such stations is predominantly residential with greater density and some commercial near the station.

87th Street station is a station on the South Chicago Branch of the Metra Electric Line on the southeast side of Chicago, United States. The station is located at 87th Street, two block East of Commercial Avenue, and is 12.51 miles (20.13 km) away from the northern terminus, Millennium Station. In Metra's zone-based fare system, 87th Street is in zone B. As of 2018, 87th Street is the 186th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 106 weekday boardings.Though Metra gives the address for the station as being at 87th Street east of Commercial Avenue, it is actually closer to South Baltimore Avenue. The tracks run along the east side of a one-lane alley behind South Baltimore Avenue, which spans only from 86th Street to 87th Street. West of this station is another Metra Electric station along 87th Street known as 87th Street (Woodruff) along the main line. Parking is available at this station, but only street-side along 87th Street, on the south side between Houston and Burley Avenues, and on the north side between the tracks and Baltimore Avenue.

Las Casas Occupational High School was an alternative high school located at 8401 South Saginaw Avenue in the South Chicago area of Chicago, Illinois, United States. The school, a part of Chicago Public Schools (CPS), intended to educate autistic, cognitively delayed, and behavior disordered students so they could take jobs.By February 2009, CPS announced that the school would close because of building deficiencies and layout problems. The school was given a reprieve, and was eventually closed at the end of the 2010-11 school year.

Baker College Preparatory High School (also known as Baker College Prep) is a public four-year charter high school located in the South Chicago neighborhood on the far south side of Chicago, Illinois. It shares its campus with Bowen High School. Baker is operated by the Noble Network of Charter Schools and is named for civil and human rights activist Ella Baker. It opened in fall 2013. Twice a year, students propose solutions to community problems that they have studied in groups that semester and that they hope to participate in solving.

James H. Bowen High School (known simply as Bowen High School) is a public 4–year high school located in the South Chicago neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Bowen is operated by the Chicago Public Schools district. From 1993 until 2011, Bowen was divided into four smaller schools. Today, the smaller schools have been re-consolidated back into one school.

Bessemer Park is a public park in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. Created in 1904, it was named for Henry Bessemer, the inventor of the eponymous steelmaking process. The name is appropriate, since Chicago's most productive steel mill, the U.S. Steel Southworks, was located just a mile away. The park was created by the South Park Commission as part of a new neighborhood park system in Chicago. Living conditions for immigrants in search of the "American dream" had become intolerable because of overcrowding. Most people didn't own cars. Other parks were too far away. Park superintendent J. Frank Foster conceived a new type of parkland for population-dense areas—parks providing "breathing spaces" and a host of other amenities, from public bathing to organized recreation. The Olmsted Brothers and the architects Daniel H. Burnham and Co. were engaged to design the entire park system, including Bessemer Park.Bessemer Park boasts a gated and beautifully landscaped nature garden planted with a wide variety of native flowering trees, shrubs and forbs.

The Sawyer Water Purification Plant, formerly the South Water Purification Plant, is the first water filtration plant built in the City of Chicago. When completed in 1947, it was the largest such plant in the world.

South Chicago (91st Street) was a commuter rail station on the Metra Electric District's South Chicago branch at East 91st Street and South Baltimore Avenue in Chicago's South Chicago neighborhood. The station provided service to the South Chicago, South Deering, Hegewisch, and East Side neighborhoods. In Metra's zone-based fare system, 91st Street was in zone B.In June 1991, the station was caught on fire after the victory of the Chicago Bulls in the 1991 NBA Finals led to a series of looting during the night.In 2001, Metra constructed a new terminal two blocks south at 93rd Street to replace this station. The new South Chicago station was dedicated June 4, 2001.

The National Shrine of Saint Jude, in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Chicago, Illinois, is a shrine to one of Jesus' 12 apostles and Roman Catholic saint Saint Jude. It is a place of pilgrimage for Catholics in the United States and other countries, and is part of a parish served by the Claretians, who continue to maintain the Shrine.
