Antioquia (Spanish pronunciation: [anˈtjokja] (listen)) is one of the 32 departments of Colombia, located in the central Northwestern part of Colombia with a narrow section that borders the Caribbean Sea. Most of its territory is mountainous with some valleys, much of which is part of the Andes mountain range. Antioquia has been part of many territorial divisions of former countries created within the present-day territory of Colombia. Prior to adoption of the Colombian Constitution of 1886, Antioquia State had its own sovereign government. The department covers an area of 63,612 km2 (24,427 sq mi), and has a population of 5,819,358 (2006 estimate); 6.6 million (2010 estimate). Antioquia borders the Córdoba Department and the Caribbean Sea to the north; Chocó to the west; the departments of Bolivar, Santander, and Boyaca to the east; and the departments of Caldas and Risaralda to the south. Medellín is Antioquia's capital city, and the second-largest city in the country. Other important towns are Santa Fe de Antioquia, the old capital located on the Cauca River, and Puerto Berrío on the Magdalena.

The Museum of Modern Art of Medellín (MAMM, Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín) is a museum of modern art in the Colombian city of Medellín. It was founded in 1978. Many artworks by Débora Arango, who was born in Medellín, are part of the museum's collection. Leiko Ikemura had a show at the Museum in 1999.

The collapse of the Space Building occurred on the night of October 12, 2013, when Tower 6 of the Space Building, a residential apartment complex, collapsed in Medellín, Colombia, killing 12 people. Local authorities evacuated the rest of the building to avoid an imminent new collapse. The cost of the building was more than $40.6 billion (2013 COP). On January 20, 2014, researchers from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of the Andes determined that the building should be partially demolished, since the lack of structural capacity of the building's columns did not allow them to support the normal loads to which they were subjected. According to the inquiries that were carried out after the collapse, if the building had been designed with all the requirements of Law 400 of 1997, Tower 6 would not have collapsed. On February 27, 2014, Tower 5 of the Space Building was demolished but the necessary mechanisms for the complete demolition of the structure were not met. On September 23, 2014, what remained of the apartment building was completely demolished after Tower 5 was demolished. The event caused the housing minister at the time, Luis Felipe Henao, to ratify a law that ceased the construction of buildings that did not rigorously comply with the requirements of Law 400.

Poblado is a station on line A of the Medellín Metro from north to south. It is named after El Poblado, where it is located adjacent to the Monterrey shopping center. The station was opened on 30 November 1995 as the terminus of the inaugural section of Line A, from Niquía to Poblado. On 30 September 1996 the line was extended to Itagüí.

Aburrá Valley (in Spanish Valle de Aburrá), is the natural river basin of the Medellín River and one of the most populous valleys of Colombia in its Andean Region with near 4 million inhabitants in its biggest urban agglomeration: The Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley. The valley is located on the Central Range, over the Antioquian Mountain just between the Magdalena and Cauca valleys from east to west. The name "Aburrá" comes from an ancient language spoken in the place by the "Aburreans" (Aburraes) before the Spaniards settled the place during the 16th century. The valley is oriented from south to north being the south the highest level and the north the low level. The altitudes of the mountains around the valley (west and east mountains), can reach up to 3,100 m (10,200 ft) above the sea level (Padre Amaya Peak). The lowest level is 1,300 m (4,300 ft) above the sea level. From its north natural limit to its southern part, the valley is 60 km (37 mi) long, while there are several varieties in its width being the wider part the one that corresponds to the municipality of Medellín with 8–10 km (5.0–6.2 mi) and the narrowest the part that corresponds to the municipality of Copacabana with 3 km (1.9 mi).

Industriales is the 14th station on the Medellín Metro from north to south, and the sixth on line A going south. It is one of the three transfer stations to line 1 of the metro bus system known as Metroplus. The station was opened on 30 November 1995 as part of the inaugural section of Line A, from Niquía to Poblado.The station is located in the south-central part of Medellín, adjacent to the headquarters of Bancolombia, the Bridge of Argos and Nutibara hill. The station is located along the Medellin River and 30th Avenue, a road that crosses the city from east to west and connects the neighborhoods of El Poblado in Belén, being closest to the Sports Unit Belén station (although it is far from this) and adjacent to the South Highway that leads to southwest Colombia.

EAFIT University (originally the acronym in Spanish: Escuela de Administración, Finanzas e Instituto Tecnológico, «School of Administration, Finance and Technological Institute») is a private Colombian university located in Medellín offering 23 undergraduate programs, 70 specializations, 34 masters, and six doctoral programs. The university offers degrees in various disciplines through its schools of Management, Engineering, Law, Finance and Economics, Science, and Humanities. Universidad EAFIT was approved by the Colombian Ministry of Education on May 6, 1971. It has three additional branches in Bogotá, Pereira, and Rionegro. The university has received the Ministry of National Education's institutional high-quality accreditation twice in a row. This makes it the first Colombian university to earn that recognition. This accreditation is valid through the end of 2026.

Integrated urban water management in Medellín, Colombia is considered to be an overall success and a good example of how a large metropolitan area with moderate income disparity can adequately operate and maintain quality water supply to its many citizens. This is quite remarkable given the large urbanized population in the metropolitan area of the Aburrá Valley of 3.3 million, many of whom live on the slopes of the Aburrá Valley where Medellín is situated and highly prone to landslides and stormwater erosion. Sound urban water management within the metropolitan area of the Aburrá Valley is carried out by a set of technically strong institutions with financial independence—and lack of political interference such as Empresas Publicas de Medellin (EPM).The metropolitan area of the Aburrá Valley is located near the equator but with a high elevation, the average climate is quite mild without great variation in temperature and rainfall. Consistent and adequate precipitation in the surrounding basins usually ensures that nearby water basins feeding the Aburrá Medellín River basin and subsequently the MAM can store approximately 178 BCM of water for the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley. Adequate supply and good resource management has allowed nearly 100% of MAM citizens across ten municipalities to receive piped water. Substantial challenges remain however for Colombia's second largest urban and economical center in dealing with an increasing urbanization rate and the settling of inhabitants higher up the hillsides within the narrow valley. Drainage of stormwater is probably the most significant concern for the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley government and managing institutions. A stormwater management plan has been instituted to help address the adverse effects of urbanization, lack of infrastructures in poorer neighborhoods able to handle stormwater, river conservation and risk assessment.

El Poblado is the 14th commune in the metropolitan area of the city of Medellín, Colombia. According to a 2005 census the population was 94,704, distributed among its land area of 23 km2, and by the year 2015, it had a population of 128,839. The comuna consists of 24 barrios, and is located in the south-east of the city. Its western boundary with the comuna of Guayabal runs along the Medellín River; to the south, it borders the city of Envigado, to the east, the township of Santa Elena, and to the north, the comunas of La Candelaria and Buenos Aires. El Poblado is also known as Las Manzanas de Oro (The Golden Blocks) because it is the main center of the industrial and commercial life of the second largest economy of Colombia. The name El Poblado (The Village) derives from the first Spanish settlement of the Aburrá Valley in 1616 that was built in what is today its main square. In 1675, the Spanish administration founded another village in El Sitio de Aná (The Aná Place), today's Berrío Square, designed to become the center of the future Medellín; instead, El Poblado itself became the main economic center during the 20th century.

Exposiciones is the thirteenth station on line A of the Medellín Metro from north to south. The station is located in the south-central area of Medellín in Colombia. It is named after the Plaza Mayor Conventions and Exhibitions center, and it is the first station on lina A that is not next to the Medellín River. The station was opened on 30 November 1995 as part of the inaugural section of Line A, from Niquía to Poblado.From this stop, there are buses that go south toward Eastern Antioquia, including Retiro, La Ceja, and La Union municipalities. There are also buses that go to the South Terminal of Intermunicipal Transport, where lines leave for the south of the department and the country, such as the cities of Armenia, Manizales, Pereira, Cali, Popayán, and Pasto.

Nutibara Hill (Spanish: Cerro Nutibara) is a rocky hill formation located in the Colombian city of Medellin, in the geographic center of the Aburrá Valley and on the west bank of the Medellín River. It is one of the few ecosystems that is conserved in Medellín and is considered one of the city's seven "guardian" hills. The hill has a sculpture park, the open-air Carlos Vieco Auditorium, and the Pueblito Paisa a reproduction of the traditional Colombian township, amongst other sights. The hill is 80 meters tall and has an area of 333,300 m2. It is named after the indigenous Chief Nutibara. Initially with the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, the hill was called "Marcela of the Parra Hill", and then "Cadavides Hill". Finally, it was renamed Nutibara, which continues today.

Sculpture Park (Spanish: Parque de las Esculturas) is a sculpture garden at the foot of Nutibara Hill in Medellín, Colombia and the first of its kind in the country. The park contains 10 modern and abstract sculptures by famous Colombian and international artists such as Edgar Negret (Colombia), Otto Herbert Hajek (Germany), and Sergio de Camargo (Brazil).Its closest metro station is Industriales. The park is free to the public and is open from 6 am to midnight.
