Ingrandes, Maine-et-Loire

Ingrandes-le-Fresne-sur-Loire (French pronunciation: [ɛ̃ɡʁɑ̃d lə fʁɛn syʁ lwaʁ] , literally Ingrandes-le-Fresne on Loire; before 2024: Ingrandes-Le Fresne sur Loire; Breton: Ingrandes-Runonn) is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department of western France. The commune was established on 1 January 2016 and consists of the former communes of Ingrandes and Le Fresne-sur-Loire (previously part of the Loire-Atlantique department). On 1 January 2024, the former commune of Saint-Sigismond was merged into Ingrandes-le-Fresne-sur-Loire.

Le Fresne-sur-Loire (French pronunciation: [lə fʁɛn syʁ lwaʁ], literally Le Fresne on Loire; Breton: Runonn) is a former commune of the Loire-Atlantique department in western France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune of Ingrandes-le-Fresne-sur-Loire, and became part of the Maine-et-Loire department. It is around 25 km west of Angers, and around 50 km east of Nantes.

The Faluns Sea is a former sea which covered Western France from 16 to 3.5 Ma. It spreads from Normandy to Vienne by forming an inlet through what is today Brittany, Anjou, Touraine and Blésois. The withdrawal of the ancient sea left behind sedimentary stones rich in fragmentary shells called falun. The sea got its name from this sedimentary rock renown for its fossil richness.
