See peel tower for the generic structureThe Peel Monument at Ramsbottom, Lancashire, England, is one of two monuments erected in memory of Bury-born Prime Minister and founder of the Police force Robert Peel. It is situated on Harcles Hill near Ramsbottom 1100 feet (335 metres) above sea level. Due to its proximity to the village of Holcombe, Harcles Hill is more commonly known as Holcombe Hill and the monument as Holcombe or Peel Tower.Construction began soon after Peel’s death in 1850, and the monument was officially opened on 9th September 1852. It cost £1000 to build and stands 128 feet tall.
