Tienen

Tienen (French: Gare de Tirlemont) is a railway station in the town of Tienen, Flemish Brabant, Belgium. The station opened on 22 September 1837 and is located on line 36. The train services are operated by National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS). The station building dates from 1841 and is the oldest station building in Belgium that is still in existence. Tienen used to be located on 22 (to Diest) and 142 (to Namur). These two lines were closed between 1967 and 1990 and are now cycle routes.

Goetsenhoven Airfield (ICAO: EBTN) is a former Belgian Air Component base, located 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Tienen, approximately 26 miles (42 km) east-southeast of Brussels. The airfield was last used militarily as a training facility for Belgian Air Cadets, equipped with six Piper L21B Super Cubs, and several Schleicher K 8B Gliders.

The Battle of Roosebeke (sometimes referred by its contemporary name as Battle of Westrozebeke) took place on 27 November 1382 on the Goudberg between a Flemish army under Philip van Artevelde and a French army under Louis II of Flanders who had called upon the help of the French king Charles VI after he had suffered a defeat during the Battle of Beverhoutsveld. The Flemish army was defeated, Philip van Artevelde was slain and his corpse was put on display.

Vissenaken is a village in Belgium. It is part (deelgemeente) of the municipality Tienen. It is located north of the city of Tienen and is divided into two parishes: Sint-Maartens and Sint-Pieters. The saint Himelin is known only in Vissenaken.

Hoegaarden (Dutch: [ˈɦuɣaːrdə(n)] (listen)) is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium. The municipality comprises the villages of Hoegaarden proper, Meldert and Outgaarden. On January 1, 2006, Hoegaarden had a total population of 6,225. The total area is 33.93 square kilometres (13.10 square miles) which gives a population density of 183 inhabitants per km².

Glabbeek (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣlɑbeːk]) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the towns of Attenrode, Bunsbeek, Glabbeek proper, Kapellen, Wever and Zuurbemde. On January 1, 2006, Glabbeek had a total population of 5,189. The total area is 26.78 km² which gives a population density of 194 inhabitants per km².

Opheylissem Castle is a large stately home in Opheylissem in the municipality of Hélécine, Walloon Brabant, Wallonia, Belgium. The present building represents the remains of the former Premonstratensian Opheylissem Abbey, which was dissolved in 1796. Most of the buildings were destroyed, but the abbot's house (prelatuur) remained, and in 1870 was restructured by the architect Alphonse Balat in its present form. Balat laid out the surrounding park at the same time. The house and park were acquired by the Province of Brabant, and after 1995 became that of the Province of Walloon Brabant.

Hélécine (Walloon: Élessene; Dutch: Heylissem / Heilissem) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant. On 1 January 2006 Hélécine had a total population of 3,068. The total area is 16.62 km² which gives a population density of 185 inhabitants per km². The municipality consists of the following districts: Linsmeau, Neerheylissem, and Opheylissem.

The Battle of Elixheim, 18 July 1705, also known as the Passage of the Lines of Brabant was a battle of the War of the Spanish Succession. The Duke of Marlborough successfully broke through the French Lines of Brabant, an arc of defensive fieldworks stretching in a seventy-mile arc from Antwerp to Namur. Although he was unable to bring about a decisive battle, the breaking and subsequent razing of the lines would prove critical to the allied victory at Ramillies the next year.
