River Carno

Carno is a village in Powys, Wales. The community, which is also a parish in the historic county of Montgomeryshire, comprises the townships of Derlwyn, Llysyn, and Trowscoed. It is in the geographical centre of Wales.

Carno Football Club is an amateur Welsh football team based in the village of Carno. The team competes in the Central Wales Northern Division. The club was formed in 1960 and began life in the Montgomeryshire Amateur League, eventually winning it in the 1966–67 season (no promotion). Carno bounced between Divisions One and Two until joining the Mid Wales League Division 2 in 1982, picking up a Montgomeryshire Amateur League Cup along the way. Carno lifted the Montgomeryshire Cup for the first time in 1983. 1983–84 saw the Mid Wales League merge into one division but a failure to adapt saw Carno drift back to the Montgomeryshire Amateur League Division Two by the 1985–86 season. A bounce-back promotion and a league title in the 1987–88 season led to promotion back to the Mid Wales League. Carno then reached new heights as they were founding members of the new Cymru Alliance in 1990–91. In 1995–96 Carno were relegated to the Mid Wales League. Carno claimed their first Mid Wales League Cup and were crowned Mid Wales League Champions as the millennium drew to a close. By the 2005–06 season fortunes had changed and Carno finished rock bottom (no relegation). Better times were to come, league positions improved and the club secured their second Montgomeryshire Cup victory in 2007–08 and their third in the 2013–14 season. In the 2015/16 season Carno reached the last 8 of the FAW Trophy, semi-final stages of both the Radnorshire Cup and League Cup and lifted the Central Wales Challenge Cup for the first time. Carno also competed in a second final and third consecutive Montgomeryshire Cup Final. For the second consecutive year they were defeated in the final by Llanfair United FC. In 2022 the club was relegated to Tier 4, ending the run as the team with the most consequent seasons in Tier 3. From their first game Carno have played at the Recreational Ground now commonly known as Ty Brith. History shows however that originally the ground had been known as "The Gay Meadow". The ground is located in the village itself.

Carno is a closed railway station in Carno, on the Cambrian Line, that was part of the Newtown and Machynlleth Railway. The station was closed in 1965 as part of the Beeching Cuts though there are proposals to re-open it.

Until 1974, Montgomeryshire (Welsh: Sir Drefaldwyn meaning "the Shire of Baldwin's town") was an administrative county in mid Wales, later classed as one of the thirteen historic counties of Wales. It was named after its county town, Montgomery, which in turn was named after one of William the Conqueror's main counsellors, Roger de Montgomerie, who was the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury. The area of what was Montgomeryshire, now constitutes the northern part of the principal area of Powys. The current area was 2,174 square km (839 square miles). The largest town was Newtown, followed by Welshpool and Llanidloes.

Clatter is a small village in Powys, Wales located in the community of Caersws on the main A470 road between Carno and Caersws village.

Plasau Duon or Plasauduon is a timber-framed house, formerly in the parish of Carno, but now within the area of the community council of Caersws in the historic county of Montgomeryshire, and now in Powys, Wales. It is located on a site above the left bank of the Afon Carno, on a farm road leading off the lane from the A.470 to Bwlch-y-garreg. It is a fine example of a ‘’Severn Valley’’ house and has a Grade II* listing. It is likely to have been built in the second half of the 16th. century.

Trefeglwys is a village and community in Powys, Wales, within the historic county of Montgomeryshire. The name derives from the Welsh language tref 'township' and eglwys 'church'. The village sits on the Afon Trannon. There are many amenities in the village including public house, garage, parish church, Nonconformist chapel, primary school, village hall and children's playground. The community includes the settlements of Llawryglyn and Staylittle.

Llawr y Glyn (or Llawryglyn) is a hamlet in Powys, Wales. It lies about 10 miles west of the town of Newtown, in the historic county of Montgomeryshire. It has changed very little over the passage of time, as it is primarily an agricultural community.

Pontdolgoch railway station was a station in Pontdolgoch, Powys, Wales. The station opened on 3 January 1863 and closed on 14 June 1965.

Pontdolgoch is a very small village in Powys, Wales. It is located on the A470 road, some 2 miles (3.2 km) northwest of Caersws. The River Carno flows through the village. Pontdolgoch's name translates as "bridge over the red meadow", and is derived from an ancient, and bloody, battle. Pontdolgoch is also home of the Coaching inn, the Talkhouse, also known by its Welsh name Ty Siarad.The village was previously served by Pontdolgoch railway station on the Cambrian Line.
