Valanjou

Chanzeaux (French pronunciation: [ʃɑ̃zo] ) is a former commune in the Maine-et-Loire department of western France. On 15 December 2015, Chanzeaux, La Chapelle-Rousselin, Chemillé-Melay, Cossé-d'Anjou, La Jumellière, Neuvy-en-Mauges, Sainte-Christine, Saint-Georges-des-Gardes, Saint-Lézin, La Salle-de-Vihiers, La Tourlandry and Valanjou merged becoming one commune called Chemillé-en-Anjou.

La Salle-de-Vihiers (French pronunciation: [la sal də vije] ) is a former commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France. Lys-Haut-Layon (French pronunciation: [liso lɛjɔ̃] ) is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department of western France. The municipality was established on 1 January 2016 and consists of the former communes of Vihiers (including Saint-Hilaire-du-Bois and Le Voide), Les Cerqueux-sous-Passavant, La Fosse-de-Tigné, Nueil-sur-Layon, Tancoigné, Tigné and Trémont.

The Battle of Vihiers (18 July 1793) was a battle between Royalist and Republican French forces at Vihiers during the War in the Vendée. After the Republican division under Jacques-Marie Pilote La Barolière advanced into the heart of the revolt area, it was attacked by the Vendeans under Dominique Piron de La Vienne and routed. The advance guard under Jacques-François Menou held its ground for a long time, but many Republican units from the main body quickly took to their heels. The Republican cavalry under Louis-Nicolas Davout covered the disorderly retreat. The Royalists suffered about 1,000 killed and wounded but inflicted 2,000 killed and wounded on their enemies as well as capturing 3,000 soldiers and 25 artillery pieces.

Vihiers (French pronunciation: [vije] ) is a former commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune of Lys-Haut-Layon.

Faveraye-Mâchelles (French pronunciation: [favʁɛ maʃɛl] ) is a former commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune of Bellevigne-en-Layon.

Melay (French pronunciation: [məlɛ] ) is a former commune in the Maine-et-Loire department in western France. In 2013 it became part of the new commune Chemillé-Melay, which became part of Chemillé-en-Anjou in December 2015. Its population was 1,581 in 2019.
