Blain, Loire-Atlantique

The canton of Blain is an administrative division of the Loire-Atlantique department, western France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Blain.It consists of the following communes:

The Château de Blain or Château de la Groulais, is a mediaeval castle constructed in the 13th century and heavily remodelled in the 16th, located in the commune of Blain in the Loire-Atlantique département of France. It formed part of the frontier defences of Brittany along with the towns and castles of Vitré, Fougères, Châteaubriant, Ancenis and Clisson.

The Battle of Blain, also called the Battle of Messac, was fought on 24 May 843 by the forces of Lambert II of Nantes and Erispoe, prince of Brittany, against Renaud, Frankish Count of Nantes. It arose from Breton resistance to Frankish power within Brittany and disputes over control of the County of Nantes. The defeat of the Franks led to a period of Breton expansionism.

Le Gâvre (French pronunciation: [lə ɡavʁ] ; Gallo: Le Gavr, Breton: Ar C'havr) is a commune in the Loire-Atlantique department in western France.

Saint-Émilien-de-Blain is a village and parish in France, part of the commune of Blain, Loire-Atlantique. The parish and village are named after Saint Émilien, Bishop of Nantes, who died when trying to save the city from the Arabs during their invasion of 725. The church at Saint-Émilien was built in 1844–54 on the central square of the village, and the bell tower added in 1868. The spire was never added due to lack of funds. The church has a typical cross-shaped layout, with a large nave and two transept arms.The neoplastic painter and sculptor Jean Gorin (1899–1981) was born in Saint-Émilien.
