Gières (French pronunciation: [ʒjɛʁ] ; Arpitan: Giére) is a commune in the Isère department in southeastern France. It is part of the Grenoble urban unit (agglomeration). The archaeologist Joseph Chamonard (1866–1936) died in Gières. Grenoble-Universités-Gières station has rail connections to Grenoble, Chambéry and Valence.

The Arboretum du Val d'Ainan (10 hectares) is a private arboretum located in Saint-Geoire-en-Valdaine, Isère, Rhône-Alpes, France. It is open primarily by appointment; a fee is charged. The arboretum was established in 1993 and now contains nearly 350 species of trees and shrubs, organized into areas as follows: mountain, Mediterranean, Caucasus, Himalaya, China, Korea and Japan, and North America. The collection concentrates on autumn foliage, remarkable tree bark, oaks, and Pinaceae.

The Arboretum Robert Ruffier-Lanche (3 hectare) is an arboretum located on the campus of the Université Grenoble Alpes at 2233 rue de la Piscine, Saint-Martin-d'Hères, Isère, Rhône-Alpes, France. It is open daily without charge. The arboretum was created in 1966 beside the Isère by Robert Ruffier-Lanche, head gardener of the Jardin botanique alpin du Lautaret. After some years of neglect, its restoration began in 1999. Today the arboretum contains over 200 species of trees and shrubs from temperate environments around the world, including particularly fine specimens of Davidia involucrata, Paulownia tomentosa var tsinlingensis, and Quercus rugosa. It also contains a scaled model representation of the Solar System.

Stendhal University (French: Université Stendhal, also known as Grenoble III) was a university located in the outskirts of Grenoble, France that offered courses in foreign languages and cultures, ancient and modern literature, language and communication sciences. Having traditionally focused on training educators, it has more recently become known for preparing students for careers in journalism, communication and culture. Each year, the CUEF (University Center for French Studies) educated over 3,000 foreign students through various exchange programs in fields covering the entire spectrum of French studies. The last president was Lise Dumasy.

Château d'Herbeys is an historic château in Herbeys, Isère, France. It was built in the 17th century. It has been listed as an official historical monument since December 14, 1949.

Joseph Fourier University (UJF, French: Université Joseph Fourier, also known as Grenoble I) was a French university situated in the city of Grenoble and focused on the fields of sciences, technologies and health. It is now part of the Université Grenoble Alpes.

École internationale du papier, de la communication imprimée et des biomatériaux (Pagora) a French engineering College created in 1907. The school trains future executives in sectors related to paper, printing, packaging and the environment. Located in Grenoble, Pagora is a public higher education institution. The school is a member of the Grenoble Institute of Technology.

Inovallée (contraction in French for the words innovation and valley) is a science park located at Meylan and Montbonnot-Saint-Martin near Grenoble in France. Created in 1972 with the acronym ZIRST, it became Inovallée in 2005 and primarily houses companies in the fields of information and communications technology. In 2014, there were more than 362 companies and 11,174 people working in the park.Inovallée also benefits from the close proximity of the Université Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble Institute of Technology and the Polygone Scientifique.

Pierre Mendès-France University (UPMF, French: Université Pierre Mendès France, also known as Grenoble II) was a French university, based in Grenoble, focused on social sciences. It was named after the late French politician Pierre Mendès-France. It is now part of the Université Grenoble Alpes. Its campus was located mainly in Grenoble, with some facilities outside the city, in particular in Valence. It was established in 1339 as part of University of Grenoble. In 1970, following the fate of many big French universities, University of Grenoble was separated into three specialized institutions – Pierre Mendès-France University (social science), Joseph Fourier University (science and technology), and Stendhal University (languages). Starting 2013, there has been some movement towards reconciliation. Pierre Mendès-France University, two of its counterparts, and several other institutions reunited in the beginning of 2016 to restore the original university under the name of the Université Grenoble Alpes, which is now alma mater for over 45,000 students.
