Shirley Windmill is a Grade II listed tower mill in Shirley, in the London Borough of Croydon, England which has been restored to working order.

Croydon Central is a constituency created in 1974 and is represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2017 by Labour MP Sarah Jones. The seat bucked the trend in national results in 2019, with Labour holding the seat with a slightly increased majority.

Shirley is an area of south London, England, within the London Borough of Croydon. It lies north of Spring Park and Addington, east of Addiscombe, south of Monks Orchard and west of West Wickham, and ten miles (sixteen kilometres) south-southeast of Charing Cross. Prior to the creation of Greater London in 1965, Shirley was in the administrative county of Surrey. The Shirley area is split into Shirley proper (centred on Wickham Road), Shirley Oaks (to the north) and Upper Shirley (to the west); the suburbs of Monks Orchard and Spring Park are sometimes also considered to be sub-districts of Shirley.

Ashburton Learning Village is a learning complex in Woodside, Greater London. It stands in the London Borough of Croydon, and is located near Ashburton Park. The learning village includes Ashburton Library, Oasis Academy Shirley Park, Croydon Music Service and a CALAT training centre. The complex was built after the old Ashburton Library was closed down. The nearest Tramlink stop is Woodside. The centre is earmarked as Croydon's Flagship Learning Village. The £20 million secondary school, library and community facilities is the borough’s first education Private Finance Initiative (PFI) development. Photovoltaic cells integrated into clerestory glazing will cast dappled shadows along a three-storey central concourse running through the heart of the building. An overhanging roof canopy will provide shelter to the main public entrance.Former energy minister Malcolm Wicks praised the new development in Croydon, for its innovative design and energy-efficient features. The then MP for Croydon North said The learning village will become a true beacon of excellence in our community. Apart from its huge potential in terms of education, it is significant that the building has taken sustainable energy seriously. It points to a better future, not only for education but also for clean energy. Monks Orchard is a suburb on the edge of the London Borough of Croydon, England, historically located in Surrey. It is situated about 10 miles (16.1 km) south south-east of Charing Cross, south of Elmers End and Eden Park, west of West Wickham, and north and east of Shirley and Shirley Oaks.

Addiscombe is an area of south London, England, within the London Borough of Croydon. It is located 9.1 miles (15 km) south of Charing Cross, and is situated north of Coombe and Selsdon, east of Croydon town centre, south of Woodside, and west of Shirley.

Oasis Academy Shirley Park (formerly Ashburton Community School) is a mixed all-through school located within the Ashburton Learning Village complex in the Woodside area of Croydon, Greater London, England. The school educates children of primary and secondary school age, and also has a sixth form. It is based on three sites: Shirley Road, Long Lane, Stroud Green. Originally two schools, Ashburton Secondary Modern Boys and Ashburton Secondary Modern Girls, which merged in 1971 to become Ashburton High School. At a later date, the school became Ashburton Community School and became an Academy in 2009 and was renamed Oasis Academy Shirley Park. The school is sponsored by the Oasis Trust. The academy has a partnership with local English Premier League-club Crystal Palace dating back to the former Community School. Former Shrewsbury Town winger Austin Berkley teaches at the Academy.

Addington Hills (also referred to as Shirley Hills) is a park in Upper Shirley, London, England. It is managed by the London Borough of Croydon. It was part of the old parish of Addington before the suburb of Shirley was developed in the 1930s. The site consists largely of woodland on a gravel bed, with London's largest area of heathland at its heart. It is a Site of Metropolitan Importance. In the mid-18th century, it was a noted cricket venue used by the then-prominent Addington Cricket Club. Addington Hills and Croham Hurst, a short distance to the southwest, form popular open spaces in Croydon. It is a peaceful area with many pathways, close to central Croydon. There is a viewpoint with fine views across Croydon and across to north London, including Docklands and Parliament Hill. It is served by Coombe Lane tram stop on the London Tramlink route to New Addington which runs along the southern edge of the land. The park covers an area of 130 acres (53 ha). The London Loop path runs through the park. The park is fully accessible at all times.

Shirley High School is a co-educational academy school in the London Borough of Croydon, which first opened in 1954. The school has around 1100 pupils aged 11–18. The school was awarded specialist status as a performing arts college. The school opened a sixth form block for the 2014–2015 academic year.

Addiscombe East is a ward in the London Borough of Croydon, in London in the United Kingdom. The ward replaced the former Ashburton Ward, which covered the Ashburton area, as well as covering the main retail area of Addiscombe, the Stroud Green, Tollgate and Longheath Garden estates, and large parts of northern Shirley. The population of the former ward at the 2011 Census was 14,721.The ward currently forms part of the Croydon Central constituency, which is one of the most marginal in the country. In 2015, only 165 votes separated the Conservatives and Labour. The ward returns two councillors every four years to Croydon Council. At the 2018 London local elections Maddie Henson and Jeet Bains were elected. They were both re-elected at the 2022 London local elections.

The ward covered the Ashburton area, as well as covering the main retail area of Addiscombe, the Stroud Green, Tollgate and Longheath Garden estates, and large parts of northern Shirley. The population of the ward at the 2011 Census was 14,721.The ward formed part of the Croydon Central constituency, which is one of the most marginal in the country, 165 votes separating the Conservatives and Labour at the 2015 General Election. The ward returned three councillors every four years to Croydon Council. At the 2014 London local elections Maddie Henson, Stephen Mann, and Andrew Rendle were elected to the council achieving a 9% swing. All of them were running as Labour Party candidates.
