The canton of Stiring-Wendel is an administrative division of the Moselle department, northeastern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Stiring-Wendel.It consists of the following communes:

Stiring-Wendel (French pronunciation: ​[stiʁɛ̃ vɑ̃dɛl]; Lorraine Franconian: Stiringe; German Stieringen-Wendel) is a commune in the Moselle department in Grand Est in north-eastern France, wedged between Forbach, Schœneck, Spicheren and Saarbrücken.

Malstatt-Burbach joined the former Saarbrücken (now called Alt-Saarbrücken) and Sankt Johann to form the present city of Saarbrücken in 1909. Malstatt received municipal rights in 1321. These, however, were afterwards resigned to the newer town of Saarbrücken, and in 1818 Malstatt and Burbach were two small villages with a joint population of only about 800. About the middle of the century the population began to increase rapidly, in consequence of the development of the mining industry of the district and the extension of the railway system, and in 1874 the two villages were united to form a town. In 1900, Malstatt-Burbach had a population of 31,195. At the time, it belonged to the district of Saarbrücken, the southernmost district of Prussia's Rhine Province. Malstatt-Burbach was an industrial town, described by the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica as "little more than a long and narrow row of manufactories and workmen's houses". The largest factories were engaged in the production of iron, steel and cement. There was a large wharf on the river for the export of coal. The Burbach ironworks, which had employed more than 23,000 people in 1975, was closed in 1988, temporarily causing an unemployment rate of 23%.

The Luisenthal Mine was a coal mine near Völklingen. The mine was known as the site of the largest mine accident in the history of the German Federal Republic, when 299 miners died on 7 February 1962.

Forbach railway station (French: Gare de Forbach) is a railway station in Forbach in the Moselle department of north-eastern France. It is the last station in France before the German border at Saarbrücken.

Forbach ( for-BAHK, French: [fɔʁbak], German: [ˈfɔʁbax]; Alemannic German: Fuerboch) is a commune in the French department of Moselle, northeastern French region of Grand Est. It is located on the German border approximately 15 minutes from the center of Saarbrücken, Germany, with which it constitutes a cross-border conurbation, and is part of the Saar-Moselle Eurodistrict. In 2017, Forbach had a population of 21,552 inhabitants, which, including its greater urban area, makes it the largest town in the eastern Moselle area.

Neue Bremm (German: Gedenkstätte Gestapo-Lager Neue Bremm) was a Nazi torture camp in Saarbrücken, set up in 1943 by the Gestapo intentionally with no oversight from other institutions. It was designed to break prisoners who were not destined for immediate death. Some prisoners were held only for a few weeks, others, much longer; both men, and women. During that time they were put to work in slave-labour commandos and broken. Those who survived purposeful starvation were sent on to Nazi concentration camps such as Buchenwald. Approximately 20,000 men and women passed through Neue Bremm, including Jews from occupied Eastern Europe as well as Frenchmen, Belgians, Britons and Italians. However, the total number of casualties remains unknown.Short term torture camps like Neue Bremm were called Straflager. The torture is reported to have included hopping crouched for 6 to 8 hours a day. Further, they were starved and deprived of sleep. The Straflager camps held the same pains as the other Nazi concentration camps in German-occupied Europe but with corporal punishment compacted into just days.After the war, the French military put dozens of Neue Bremm personnel, including the commandant, Fritz Schmoll, on trial for war crimes. A number of them, including Schmoll, were found guilty and executed. Others were given prison sentences.

Behren-lès-Forbach (French pronunciation: ​[beʁən lɛ fɔʁbak], literally Behren near Forbach; German: Behren) is a commune in the Moselle department in Grand Est in northeastern France. Between 1812 and 1925, it was part of the commune of Kerbach.

The arrondissement of Forbach is a former arrondissement of France in the Moselle department in the Lorraine region. In 2015 it was merged into the new arrondissement of Forbach-Boulay-Moselle. It had 73 communes, and its population was 167,518 (2012).

The Battle of Spicheren, also known as the Battle of Forbach, was a battle during the Franco-Prussian War. The German victory compelled the French to withdraw to the defenses of Metz. The Battle of Spicheren, on 6 August, was the second of three critical French defeats. Moltke had originally planned to keep Bazaine's army on the Saar river until he could attack it with the 2nd Army in front and the 1st Army on its left flank, while the 3rd Army closed towards the rear. The aging General von Steinmetz made an overzealous, unplanned move, leading the 1st Army south from his position on the Moselle. He moved straight toward the town of Spicheren, cutting off Prince Frederick Charles from his forward cavalry units in the process.
