Wiesmoor is a town in the district of Aurich in the northwest of Lower Saxony. It lies on the Nordgeorgsfehnkanal and is the youngest town in the East Frisia area having been bestowed town rights on the 16th of March 2006, two days later on the 18th of March 2006, Wiesmoor celebrated the Centenary of the settlements founding. The town owes its growth to the industrialisation of the harvesting of peat from the surrounding moors. Wiesmoor holds an annual flower festival and the town is also known as the ‘Flower City’, the name originates from the large numbers of flowers which are grown in the town’s industrial greenhouse. Formerly the greenhouses were heated by waste heat from the now defunct peat burning power station which was located in the city. Wiesmoor also has the official title of a Luftkurort; tourism now plays an important role in the local economy.

Hesel is a Samtgemeinde ("joint municipality") in the district of Leer, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Its seat is in the village Hesel. The Samtgemeinde Hesel consists of the following municipalities: Brinkum Firrel Hesel Holtland Neukamperfehn SchwerinsdorfThe area lies centrally within the Oldenburg-East Frisian geest ridge. Already in prehistoric and early historic times Hesel was the junction of a road network. It still has this function today in the modern road network of East Frisia. On the territory of the joint municipality there are many of the oldest traces of human settlement of East Frisia. Favoured by its location, the main village of Hesel was the site of two monasteries and several monastery outworks in the High and Late Middle Ages. On January 17, 1972, the six communities mentioned above merged to form the joint municipality of Hesel. Economically, the joint municipality of Hesel is primarily characterized by medium-sized businesses. Agriculture has always played a major role in the joint municipality, as can be seen from the high proportion of agricultural land of more than 75 percent. Tourism plays a role to a certain extent. However, the joint municipality as a whole is a commuter area, especially to the neighboring county seat of Leer. The cultural heritage of the joint municipality includes the 13th century Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church) in Holtland, the former monastery outworks Gut Stikelkamp from the 16th century and several archaeological sites.

Hesel is a municipality in Leer district. It is situated approximately 12 km (7.5 mi) northeast of Leer, and 25 km (16 mi) east of Emden. Hesel is also the seat of the Samtgemeinde ("collective municipality") Hesel.

Westerstede (German pronunciation: [vɛstɐˈʃteːdə] ; Low German: Westerstäe) is the capital of the Ammerland district, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximately 25 km northwest of Oldenburg. It is known for hosting the Rhodo Festival, the biggest exhibition of rhododendrons in Europe. The festival is hosted every four years (next time in 2023). The villages of Burgforde, Eggeloge, Felde, Fikensolt, Garnholt, Gießelhorst, Halsbek, Halstrup, Hollriede, Hollwege, Hollwegerfeld, Hüllstede, Ihausen, Ihorst, Karlshof, Linswege, Linswegerfeld, Mansie, Lindern, Moorburg, Neuengland, Ocholt, Ocholterfeld, Ollenharde, Petersfeld, Tarbarg, Torsholt, Westerloy, Westerloyerfeld and Westerstederfeld are part of Westerstede. The railway station of Westerstede is located in the village of Ocholt, 6 km south of the town. Trains from and to Leer and Oldenburg halt there every hour. The community (and the whole Ammerland region) is famous for its tree nurseries. They grow rhododendrons that are sold outside Germany as well. The slightly acid peat soil is very suitable for this type of horticulture. Near Linswege village, 7 km north-east of Westerstede, a Rhododendron Park has been established next to a beautiful wooded area. The park is open to visitors in May and June every year.

Ammerland is a district in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is bounded by (from the east and clockwise) the city of Oldenburg and the districts of Oldenburg, Cloppenburg, Leer, Friesland and Wesermarsch.
