Pikes Peak Marathon

Pikes Peak is the highest summit of the southern Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in North America. The ultra-prominent 14,115-foot (4,302.31 m) fourteener is located in Pike National Forest, 12 miles (19 km) west of downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. The town of Manitou Springs lies at its base. The mountain is named in honor of American explorer Zebulon Pike, even though he was unable to reach the summit. The summit is higher than any point in the United States east of its longitude.

The U.S. Army Pikes Peak Research Laboratory, or simply the "Pikes Peak Lab", is a modern medical research laboratory for the assessment of the impact of high altitude on human physiological and medical parameters of military interest. It is a satellite facility of the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM), located in Natick, Massachusetts. The Pikes Peak Lab is at the summit of Pikes Peak 14,115 feet (4,302 m) in central Colorado, USA. The summit is approximately 5 acres (2.0 ha) of relatively flat, rocky terrain and is directly and easily accessible by automobile via the Pikes Peak Highway. The lab has been maintained by USARIEM since 1969 and is a building of 2,267 sq ft (210.6 m2). floor space divided into a kitchen and dining/day room, common area bathroom and shower, and common area sleeping quarters accommodating up to 16 research volunteers, a wet laboratory, a research area, and a mechanical room housing steel storage tanks for water and sewage. The building is well insulated and protected from the elements, supplied with electrical power, and heated by natural gas. Also occupying the summit is the commercially operated lodging, the Summit House, for the 500 to 3000 tourists who come daily to the summit in the summer time by car, cog railway, or trail hiking. US Forest Service rangers of the Pike National Forest have general administrative oversight of the greater area. The Pikes Peak Lab was renamed the USARIEM Maher Memorial Altitude Laboratory in honor of John T. Maher, Ph.D., director of USARIEM's Altitude Research Division from 1981 to 1983.

Barr Trail is a 13-mile (21 km) trail in the Pike National Forest that begins in Manitou Springs, Colorado, and ends at the Pikes Peak summit. The high elevation trail with a long sustained grade is rated more difficult by the U.S. Forest Service. With a 7,800 feet (2,400 m) elevation gain to reach the summit, the Colorado Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau states that it is an advanced trail and is the most difficult trail in the Pikes Peak region. Barr Trail is used for the Pikes Peak Ascent, Pikes Peak Marathon, and the Barr Trail Mountain Race. The Ascent and Marathon start in Manitou Springs in front of City Hall and connect with the Barr Trail from upper Ruxton Ave. Both races ascend to the Pikes Peak summit at 14,115'. The Marathon is an out-and-back race that finishes at Ruxton and Manitou Avenues in Manitou Springs. The 12.6-mile course for the Barr Trail Mountain Race starts at the Cog Railway Depot and ascends to Barr Camp at 10,200', then reverses back down to the trailhead via Hydro Street.

Old Mountain View, also known as Mountain View, was a railway station in El Paso County, Colorado at 9,636 feet (2,937 m) in altitude. Beginning in 1891, it was a stop on the Manitou and Pike's Peak Railway between Manitou Springs and Pikes Peak. Butterworth Flat, Minnehaha, Half-Way House, Ruxton Park, Windy Point, and Saddle House, were also stops on the line to the summit. Pike’s Peak Daily News was published at Old Mountain View with the names and addresses of the passengers who traveled the cog railway. At more than 9,600 feet (2,900 m), it was called "The Most Elevated Publication on Earth". It was published from June 1891 to 1922 or later.

Seven Lakes is an abandoned, historically populated place in Teller County, Colorado, on the Pikes Peak mountain. It was once the site of the Seven Lakes Hotel along a carriage road to the summit of Pikes Peak. Its waters flow from Beaver Creek to the Lake Moraine reservoir, a supplier of water to Colorado Springs.

Ruxton Park is a park in Manitou Springs, El Paso County, Colorado at 9,078 feet (2,767 m) in elevation. The Manitou and Pike's Peak Railway, which departs from the depot at 6,570 feet (2,000 m) in elevation, climbs into Englemann Canyon along Ruxton Creek. It passes by the site of the Halfway Hotel and then Ruxton Park at mile marker 3 on the 8.9 mile trip to Pikes Peak summit.In the late 19th century and early 20th century, it was a small town established along Ruxton Creek near Iron Springs, Colorado (now Manitou Springs). Since 1925, it has been the site of a hydroelectric plant owned by the city of Colorado Springs and a weather station. Ruxton Park was only inhabited by a caretaker for the plant from 1930 to 2008, when the plant was fully automated.

Midway is an unincorporated community near the Pikes Peak Cog Railway in El Paso County, Colorado.

Ruxton Creek is a stream in Manitou Springs in El Paso County, Colorado. Named for British explorer and writer of the southwest, George Fredrick Augustus Ruxton, it is one of three main drainage basins in Manitou Springs. Ruxton Creek flows out of Englemann Canyon and into the town of Manitou Springs. Iron Springs geyser emanates from the creek and is one of the Manitou Mineral Springs.

Crystal Creek Reservoir is a reservoir on Crystal Creek on the northwest side of Pikes Peak in El Paso County, Colorado. The reservoir is impounded by Crystal Creek Dam, which is on the border of Teller and El Paso counties. The reservoir and surrounding Pike National Forest land offers opportunities for boating, fishing, camping, and hunting, among other activities and can be accessed from the Pikes Peak Highway. It is one of three reservoirs that are part of the North Slope Recreation Area located northeast of Colorado Springs. On July 20, 2023 a rare EF-1 tornado developed rapidly on the north slope of Pikes Peak and crossed directly through the reservoir.

Englemann Canyon (also spelled Engleman's Canon) is a valley along Ruxton Creek, in Manitou Springs, El Paso County, Colorado. It is one of three canyons in Manitou Springs, the others are Ute Pass and Williams Canyon.

KJCS-LD, virtual channel 38 (UHF digital channel 14), is a low-power religious television station licensed to Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States. Between 1998 and 2011, it rebroadcast Daystar. As of December 2012, it is in digital, and simulcasting Denver's KDEO-LD (channel 23) and its subchannels; along with that station, it was sold by Catholic Television Apostolate to Simchat Torah Beit Midrash in 2015. In 2019, KJCS moved from channel 38 to channel 14. The transmitter is located near the peak of Almagre Mountain South, at an elevation of approximately 12,340 feet.

Minnehaha is an unincorporated community in El Paso County, Colorado, and a siding of the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. It is named for a character in The Song of Hiawatha.
