Coberley

Seven Springs is a hamlet in the heavily wooded parish of Coberley in the Cotswold District of Gloucestershire in England, 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Cheltenham. Including the intersection of the A435 and A436 roads, it has the sources of the River Churn, which flows south across almost a full cross-section of the Cotswolds, through Cirencester, and joins the Thames near Cricklade.

Cowley is a village and civil parish in the Cotswold District of Gloucestershire, England. It lies between the A417 and A435 roads between Cheltenham and Cirencester in the Churn Valley, and has a population of 333. The name originates from 'cow' and 'leigh', literally meaning cow pasture.Its main features are Cowley Manor which was owned by the Horlicks family and is currently being used as a country hotel. The Grade II* listed parish church of St. Mary lies next to the Manor and dates from the 12th century. The village pub is the Green Dragon, which is not far from the Gloucestershire Girl Guides HQ, Deerpark. Cowley also has a Sunday cricket team, which plays at the ground towards the west side of the village near the Green Dragon pub. The village used to own its own village hall (which used to be the old school house); however, the parish council have sold this in recent years and it has been converted into a private residence. Considering that it has a pub, hotel, church, and Girl Guide HQ, Cowley still can boast a post box and telephone box as the only forms of public amenities. The local town and shops are in Cheltenham, and many people who live in the village work in Cheltenham, even though Cirencester is only 30 minutes' drive away. The village consists of approximately 40 houses and they are scattered around a circular road that curls up the edge of a small valley and then runs back down the bottom of the V shape. The 'back lane' has only two houses on it compared to the higher lane that holds most of the residents. Further up the small valley is a collection of three houses on a hilltop. The entrance to Cowley from the A435 is through two large pillars, either side of the road entrance, existing from the entrance of the Cowley Manor estate. The village falls in Ermin electoral ward. This ward starts in Cowley in the north, follows the A417 road, and ends at Daglingworth in the south. The total ward population taken in the 2011 census was 1,793.Attractions around the area include Cirencester, Shabb Hill scenic view, Crickley Hill Country Park, and Cheltenham. The village is popular with ramblers and general Cotswold visitors. Many of the residents are not local to the area anymore, but have settled in the village because of its quick connections to London.

Leckhampton Hill and Charlton Kings Common (grid reference SO952187) is a 63.8-hectare (158-acre) biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1954. There are five units of assessment.The site is listed in the 'Cotswold District' Local Plan 2001-2011 (on line) as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).

The National Star College (previously known as the Star Centre) is an independent specialist further education college for people with physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries and associated learning difficulties. It is based at Ullenwood Manor in the village of Ullenwood, near the spa town of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. It is constituted as a company and registered charity under English law, using the official name National Star Centre for Disabled Youth.In June 2012, the National Star College received an 'Outstanding' rating from Ofsted. The outstanding rating was continued in the 2018 inspection.

The Devil's Chimney is a limestone rock formation that stands above a disused quarry in Leckhampton, near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. It is named for its peculiar shape, that of a crooked and twisted chimney rising from the ground. The Devil's Chimney is a local landmark, but its origins are uncertain. In 1926 it survived an earthquake, but not without a few cracks. In 1985 it was repaired and protected from further erosion.

Ullenwood is a village in the Coberley civil parish, near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. It is the site of a formerly secret civil defence bunker intended as a Regional Seat of Government in the event of nuclear war.It is the site of the former Ullenwood army camp which was used during the two World Wars as a U.S. military hospital. For three decades at the end of the 20th century, Ullenwood Camp was used each summer as accommodation for archaeologists engaged in excavating the site at nearby Crickley Hill. National Star College, an independent further education college and special school for people aged 16 to 25 with learning difficulties and physical disabilities, is based at Ullenwood Manor. The college grounds include a private 18-hole golf course used by Ullenwood Manor Golfing Society. Cotswold Hills Golf Club, founded in 1902, is also located at Ullenwood. Prior to becoming the National Star College, the Manor was known as Ullenwood Manor Preparatory School for Boys. It was a boarding school for boys aged up to 13 years old. Pupils came from the UK and overseas, and included children and grandchildren of famous politicians (e.g. Kwame Anthony Appiah) and royal families. The River Churn, commonly held to be one of, if not the primary sources of the River Thames, is joined within Coberley by a still longer tributary which has its source in the grounds of the National Star College.

DoubleTree by Hilton Cheltenham (earlier known as Cheltenham Park Hotel), Charlton Kings, is a Regency building of historical significance. It was previously called Lilleybrook. It stands on the site of an ancient manor which was rebuilt and/or improved in about 1700 and again in 1816. In 1831 it was badly damaged by fire and in 1833 it was again rebuilt. This is the house which stands today. Over the next century it was the home to several notable families and in 1922 opened as a hotel. The building was renovated in 2017 and the hotel subsequently adopted the DoubleTree franchise. The hotel is managed by Michels & Taylor.

Charlton Kings railway station was a small station in Gloucestershire serving the village of Charlton Kings and the southern outskirts of Cheltenham Spa.

Cockleford Marsh (grid reference SO977133) is a 3.2-hectare (7.9-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1991.It lies in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site is a typical example of the spring line fen-meadow habitat which is common along the Cotswold scarp and the valleys in areas of landslip. There are only a few remaining such marshes in the Cotswolds. This site is particularly botanically rich and a mixture of grassland and wetland habitats.The site is listed in the 'Cotswold District' Local Plan 2001-2011 (on line) as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).

The Anglican Church of St John the Evangelist at Elkstone in the Cotswold District of Gloucestershire, England was built in the 12th century. It is a grade I listed building.

Bushley Muzzard, Brimpsfield (grid reference SO944133) is a 1.13-hectare (2.8-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1984.The site lies within the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and was formerly called Watercombe Marsh. It is one of a limited number of marshes in the Cotswolds. There is a significant range of species, and a number of plants which are uncommon.The site (name included of Brimpsfield Bog) is listed in the 'Cotswold District' Local Plan 2001-2011 (on line) as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS).

Elkstone is a village and civil parish in the English county of Gloucestershire. In the 2001 United Kingdom census, the parish had a population of 203, increasing to 248 at the 2011 censusApproximately 7 miles (11 km) south of its post town, Cheltenham, and approximately 8 miles (13 km) north-west of Cirencester, Elkstone lies within the Cotswolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
