Ellijay, occasionally spelled Elijay, is a city in Gilmer County, Georgia, United States. Its population was 1,862 at the 2020 census. The city is the county seat of Gilmer County. Agriculture is important in Gilmer County, known as the "Apple Capital of Georgia." The city holds an annual Georgia Apple Festival in October. Former President Jimmy Carter owned a pine-cabin second home in Ellijay. Other tourists are attracted to the mountains and whitewater kayaking.

The Ellijay River is a 15.1-mile-long (24.3 km) river in Georgia. It ends in the town of Ellijay at its confluence with the Cartecay River, forming the Coosawattee River in Gilmer County.

The Cartecay River is a 19.1-mile-long (30.7 km) river that runs into Ellijay, Georgia, in Gilmer County. It is the site of a class II whitewater run. The Cartecay and Ellijay rivers meet in Ellijay to form the Coosawattee River. The Cartecay and most of its watershed are located within the southeast corner of Gilmer County, Georgia, but there are small sections of the watershed in Fannin, Pickens, and Dawson counties. Much of the river runs east to west and is bordered by Georgia State Route 52. The Cartecay River basin covers 86,734 acres (351.0 km2) in total area. The major tributaries are Clear Creek, Licklog Creek, Owltown Creek, Anderson Creek and Tickanetley Creek. The land is mostly undeveloped, but the river passes through some residential developments. The headwaters of the Cartecay River begin in the Chattahoochee National Forest.

East Ellijay is a city in Gilmer County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2020 census, East Ellijay had a population of 650. East Ellijay was originally the location of Fort Hetzel, one of the Cherokee removal forts built in 1838 to house the Cherokee people before sending them on the Trail of Tears .

Gilmer County is a county in the Northwest region of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, its population was 31,353. The county seat is Ellijay. named for a historic Cherokee town also spelled as Elejoy in the 18th century. The county was created on December 3, 1832, and was named for George Rockingham Gilmer, a politician who served two nonconsecutive terms as governor of the state. Gilmer County is home of the annual Apple Festival, which is held in mid-October. About 90% of the land area is in cropland and forest. Poultry raising and processing make up the largest portion of the agricultural economy, which generates 33.2% of the total revenues. Manufacturing is about 20%.

Gilmer High School is located in North Georgia in the city of Ellijay, Georgia, United States. It serves Gilmer County. It was established in August 1956 and enrolls about 1182 students in grades 9–12. It is a public high school of the State of Georgia and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Georgia High School Association.

The Georgia Apple Festival is an annual festival in Ellijay, Georgia. The festival has been held every October since 1971 and offers handmade crafts, live music, and apples. An annual parade and antique car show are also held in conjunction with the festival.

Turniptown Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is a tributary to the Ellijay River. Turniptown is an English translation of the native Cherokee language name.

Puckett Observatory is a private astronomical observatory located in the state of Georgia. It is owned and operated by Tim Puckett. Its primary observation goals are the study of comets and the discovery of supernovae. To facilitate the latter goal it sponsors the Puckett Observatory World Supernova Search whose astronomers have discovered 369 supernovae.

Talona Mountain is a summit in the U.S. state of Georgia. The elevation is 2,090 feet (640 m). Talona Mountain takes its name from the former nearby Cherokee settlement at Talona, Georgia.
