La Chapelle-Janson

La Chapelle-Fleurigné (French pronunciation: [la ʃapɛl flœʁiɲe]; Breton: Chapel-Flurinieg; Gallo: La Chapèll-Floereinyaè) is a commune in the Ille-et-Vilaine department of Brittany in north-western France. It was established on 1 January 2024, with the merger of the communes of La Chapelle-Janson and Fleurigné.

Fleurigné (French pronunciation: [flœʁiɲe]; Breton: Flurinieg; Gallo: Floereinyaè) is a former commune in the Ille-et-Vilaine department in Brittany in northwestern France. It was merged with La Chapelle-Janson to form La Chapelle-Fleurigné on 1 January 2024.

The Canton of Fougères-Nord is a former canton of France, in the Ille-et-Vilaine département. It had 22,494 inhabitants (2012). It was disbanded following the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. The canton comprised the following communes:

Fougères Agglomération is the communauté d'agglomération, an intercommunal structure, centred on the town of Fougères. It is located in the Ille-et-Vilaine department, in the Brittany region, northwestern France. Created in 2017, its seat is in La Selle-en-Luitré. Its area is 538.7 km2. Its population was 55,874 in 2019, of which 20,595 in Fougères proper.

Luitré-Dompierre (French pronunciation: [lɥitʁe dɔ̃pjɛʁ]; Breton: Loezherieg-Dompêr) is a commune in the Ille-et-Vilaine department in Brittany in northwestern France. It was established on 1 January 2019 by merger of the former communes of Luitré (the seat) and Dompierre-du-Chemin.

The canton of Fougères-2 is an administrative division of the Ille-et-Vilaine department, in northwestern France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Fougères. The Canton of Fougères-2 covers specific areas and municipalities within the Fougères Agglomération and is represented by elected officials who serve on the departmental council. These officials are responsible for addressing local issues, representing the interests of their constituents, and participating in decision-making processes at the departmental level. Dompierre-du-Chemin (French pronunciation: [dɔ̃pjɛʁ dy ʃəmɛ̃]; Breton: Dompêr-an-Hent; Gallo: Donpièrr) is a former commune in the Ille-et-Vilaine department in Brittany in northwestern France. On 1 January 2019, it was merged into the new commune Luitré-Dompierre.

The battle of Fougères was a battle on 3 November 1793 at Fougères, during the Virée de Galerne. It was a Vendéen victory. The Vendéens (on their way from taking Mayenne) decided to march on Saint-Malo to make contact with the British and, recently joined by the Chouans, marched on Fougères on the way. Realising the danger, the Republicans prepared to defend the city and castle, with adjudant général Brière gathering 6,000 National Guards and soldiers from line regiments and inspecting the castle's defences. Many administrators chose to leave the city and flee towards Rennes, with some exceptions staying put, such as mayor Lesueur.
