Durleigh

The Church of St Hugh at Durleigh in the English county of Somerset was built in the 11th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.

Durleigh reservoir at Durleigh in Somerset, England covers 80 acres (32 ha) and was formed in 1938 when Durleigh brook, a tributary of the River Parrett, was dammed. The reservoir's original purpose was to provide water for the newly built British Cellophane Factory in Bridgwater. It is used for coarse fishing, particularly carp, roach, bream, perch, tench and pike.The reservoir provides facilities for dinghy sailing, sailboarding and windsurfing through Durleigh Sailing Club.The wildlife includes several bird species including: ducks, great crested grebes, swans and geese.West Bower Manor (also known as Durleigh Manor), which stands on the shore of the reservoir, is all that remains of a large manorial property, the majority of which has been demolished. Parts of the building date from the 15th century though the core of the fabric may even be earlier, further parts were built in the 17th and 19th centuries.The principal surviving element from the Medieval manor is the gatehouse. This has been extensively restored, but is a good example of a former courtyard gatehouse with a pair of faceted turrets on either side of the former entrance passageway.

Gothelney Hall, also known as Gothelney Manor Farmhouse, located in the parish of Spaxton, Somerset, England was built in the 15th century and has been designated as a Grade I listed building.The site was used for an earlier building dated by dendrochronology to between 1238 and 1411.The tall house in the centre of the building dates from the 15th century, however this was extended in the 16th century, with further additions and renovations in the 17th and 19th centuries. Many of the original roof timbers survive. It was originally surrounded by a moat.In World War II the house was used by the War Department and afterwards became a kindergarten. It was later used as a farmhouse and farm outbuildings can be found to the rear. The house remains a private dwelling and centre of a working farm.

Bridgwater Friary was a Franciscan monastery in Bridgwater, Somerset, England, established in 1245 and dissolved in 1538. It was founded by William Briwere and moved from another location. Further buildings were added in 1278 and 1284. The church was rebuilt in the 15th century and consecrated in 1445. After the dissolution of the monasteries it became a mansion house. There have been various attempts to excavated the site with decorated tiles, and other building fragments now in the Blake Museum. The only visible remains are an old door in Silver Street.The site is also crossed by a linear feature thought to date from the English Civil War.

Gurney Manor in Cannington, Somerset, England is a 13th-century manor house with an attached chapel wing. It is now supported by the Landmark Trust and is available as holiday accommodation. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building and is considered notable partly due to the substantial survival of medieval construction throughout.The first building on the site was an open hall house erected before 1350. It was rebuilt around 1400 with various additions during the 15th century. William Dodisham added the south wing, porch, and kitchen and put in new windows. In 1480 he left it to his niece Agnes, who married local landowner Walter Michael. Their family and descendants owned and improved the manor until 1616. It then became a farmhouse often inhabited by tenants until the early 20th century. In these 300 years the property enjoyed few improvements but nonetheless suffered few fundamental alterations. In World War II the house was divided into flats by a Mr Harris, whose descendants sold it to the Landmark Trust in the 1980s. The interior includes the remnants of a 17th-century strapwork plaster ceiling.Restoration work in the late 20th century included the repair of structural problems as well as the construction of new oak roof trusses made in a traditional fashion with an adze.

Robert Blake Science College is a mixed secondary school in Bridgwater, Somerset, England.The school, which was established in 1956, has specialist Science College status, has 719 students between the ages of 11 and 16. The school is named after Robert Blake (1599 — 17 August 1657), one of the most important military commanders of the Commonwealth of England, and one of the most famous English admirals of the 17th century, who was born in Bridgwater. Bridgwater was selected as the first town in the South West level to be selected for the UK governments Building Schools for the Future initiative, which aimed to rebuild and renew nearly every secondary school in England. Within Bridgwater, Building Schools for the Future was to develop all of the 4 secondary schools along with 2 special provision schools, Elmwood School and Penrose School at an expected cost of around £100 Million. This included the complete relocation and rebuilding of a new school combining both the Haygrove and Penrose Schools. In July 2010 several components of the scheme for Bridgwater schools were cancelled and others were still under discussion.
