Fort Missoula was established by the United States Army in 1877 on land that is now part of the city of Missoula, Montana, to protect settlers in Western Montana from possible threats from the Native American Indians, such as the Nez Perce.Beginning in 1888, the fort was home to the famous Buffalo Soldiers of the 25th Infantry Regiment (3rd Formation). While stationed at Fort Missoula, this unit tested the practicality of soldiers traveling by bicycles by conducting numerous training rides, with one ride all the way to St. Louis, Missouri. The Trans-America Bicycle Trail established in 1976 goes through Missoula, and covers some of the routes pedaled by the 25th Regiment. During World War II, Fort Missoula housed an internment camp for Italian detainees, who called the area Bella Vista, and Japanese Americans arrested as "enemy aliens" after Pearl Harbor.

Fort Missoula Internment Camp was an internment camp operated by the United States Department of Justice during World War II. Japanese Americans and Italian Americans were imprisoned here during this war.

Big Sky High School is an American public high school in Missoula, Montana, United States, opened in 1980. The school made Missoula the first city in Montana to have four secondary schools. It is a part of the Missoula County Public Schools.

Lindborg-Cregg Memorial Field is a baseball park in the Western United States, located in Missoula, Montana. With a seating capacity of 2,200 people, it is the home of the Missoula Mavericks, an American Legion team. It was also home to the minor league Missoula Osprey for five seasons, prior to the opening of Ogren Park at Allegiance Field in 2004.The natural grass field is aligned southwest (home plate to second base) at an approximate elevation of 3,150 feet (960 m) above sea level.

C.S. Porter School also known as Porter Middle School, is a public middle school located in Missoula, Montana. The school is a part of Missoula County Public Schools, and is one of three public middle schools in the city of Missoula. Originally serving grades 5–8, the school now serves only grades 6–8.

The Bitterroot River is a northward flowing 84-mile (135 km) river running through the Bitterroot Valley, from the confluence of its West and East forks near Conner in southern Ravalli County to its confluence with the Clark Fork River near Missoula in Missoula County, in western Montana. The Clark Fork River is a tributary to the Columbia River and ultimately, the Pacific Ocean. The Bitterroot River is a Blue Ribbon trout fishery with a healthy population of native westslope cutthroat trout and bull trout. It is the third most fly fished river in Montana behind the Madison and Big Horn Rivers.

Hell Gate (sometimes known as Hell Gate Ronde, Hell's Gate or Hellgate) is a ghost town at the western end of the Missoula Valley in Missoula County, Montana, United States. The town was located on the banks of the Clark Fork River roughly five miles downstream from present-day Missoula near what is now Frenchtown.

Southgate Mall is a shopping mall located in Missoula, Montana. The shopping center originally opened in August 1978 with Hart-Albin, Hennessy's, Nordstrom Place Two and Sears as anchor stores. Today, the mall is anchored by AMC Theatres, two Dillard's stores, and Scheels All Sports. An adjacent strip mall is anchored by Bed Bath & Beyond, Bob Ward's and Cost Plus World Market. Southgate Mall is recognized as the largest enclosed shopping area in the region of Western Montana.

The South Hills are the small foothills in various Montana communities, most notably those at elevation 3,592 feet (1,095 m), south of Missoula, Montana in Missoula County. Several districts of Missoula are also in the South Hills, such as Whitaker Heights/Farviews Neighborhood, Hillview Heights/South Hills Neighborhood, and Miller Creek-Linda Vista.
