Maldegem

Steam Train Maldegem-Eeklo (Dutch: Stoomtrein Maldegem-Eeklo, SME), formerly Steam Centre Maldegem (Dutch: Stoomcentrum Maldegem, SCM), is a heritage railway association based at the former NMBS station of Maldegem in northern Belgium. Standard gauge steam and diesel trains run on the line to Eeklo. A 600 mm (1 ft 11+5⁄8 in) narrow gauge line runs from Maldegem to Donk on the former line to Bruges; this was supplemented by the standard gauge line in 1989.

The cavalry charge of Burkel (French: Charge de Burkel, Dutch: Slag bij Burkel) was a skirmish between Belgian and German forces on 19 October 1918, during the closing stages of World War I. It is notable as the last cavalry charge in Western Europe.

Eede is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is located close on the Belgian border about 3 km south of Aardenburg, in the municipality of Sluis.

Adegem is a village and deelgemeente (sub-municipality) in the municipality of Maldegem in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The village is located about 19 kilometres (12 mi) east of Bruges.

The Battle of Beverhoutsveld took place on 3 May 1382, on a field situated between the towns of Beernem, Oostkamp and Assebroek. It marked an important phase in the rebellion of Ghent (led by Philip van Artevelde) against Louis II, Count of Flanders.

Heille is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is located on the Belgium border, about 2 km west of Aardenburg in the municipality of Sluis. Heille is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Sluis.Heille was a separate municipality until 1880.

Knesselare (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈknɛsəlaːrə]) is a village and deelgemeente in the municipality of Aalter and a former municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprised the towns of Knesselare proper and Ursel. The municipality's name is derived from the Germanic words "klisse" (herb) and "laar", (a soggy brushwood terrain), and was first attested in 1128.Knesselare became an independent parish in 1171. It was originally a village heerlijkheid, but during the rule of Louis II, Count of Flanders (1330–1384), the area had been split into four different administrations. Until the 19th century, large parts of the municipality still contains forests and heaths.On 1 August 2015, Knesselare had a total population of 8,171. The total area was 37.27 km² which gives a population density of 219 inhabitants per km². Effective 1 January 2019, the municipality was merged into Aalter.

Ursel Air Base (ICAO: EBUL) is a joint public/military airport located 10.2 km southwest of Eeklo near Ursel, East Flanders, Belgium.

The Saint Bavo Church (Dutch: Sint-Bavokerk, Sint-Baafskerk) is a Dutch Reformed church building in Aardenburg, Netherlands.The church was founded in 959 by monks of the Saint Bavo's Abbey in Ghent. Due to a rise in population this small church was replaced by a Romanesque church which burned down in 1202. In 1220 the current tower, nave and transept were built. During the 14th century the choir was extended. During the Eighty Years' War the church was damaged. It was subsequently restored in 1646, which is also mentioned on the building. In World War II, the church again suffered major destructions. The reconstruction took almost a decade, from 1947 to 1956. The church and tower were separately listed as a rijksmonument on 12 February 1974, making it a national heritage site of the Netherlands. The church is recognized as part of the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites. The church is dedicated to Bavo of Ghent.

The Meetjesland is a historical region in the north-west of the province East Flanders in Belgium.

Aardenburg is a small city close to the Dutch border with Belgium. It is part of the Sluis Municipality, located in the province of Zeeland in the Netherlands. Its medieval name was Rodenburgh (Red Castle). In the Sint-Baafskerk, (Saint Bavo's Church), Aardenburg houses the most complete example of the Scheldegotiek, the characteristic Gothic architecture of the Scheldt. It is also still possible today to see remains of some of the fortifications that used to enclose the city.

Sint-Joris is a village in the municipality of Beernem, in the province of West Flanders, Belgium.
