Rocky Oaks is a small nature reserve and wildlife refuge regional park on Mulholland Highway in the Santa Monica Mountains, within western Los Angeles County, southern California.

Castro Peak, at 2,826 feet (861 m), is the highest peak in the middle part of the Santa Monica Mountains and is in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The town of Malibu is located to the southeast of the peak. The fire lookout tower that was once located on Castro Peak has been moved to Henninger Flats in the San Gabriel Mountains for display.

Ballard Mountain is a mountain in Los Angeles County, California in the Santa Monica Mountains with an elevation of 2,039 feet (621 m). Previously known by the pejorative form, all such names were changed by the Board on Geographic Names (BGN) to "Negro" in 1964. In 2009, the name was changed to recognize the summit's association with John Ballard, an early black pioneer.

Seminole Hot Springs is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Seminole Hot Springs is located in the Santa Monica Mountains near Cornell, 3.6 miles (5.8 km) south-southeast of Agoura Hills at an elevation of 932 feet (284 m).

The Saddle Rock-Malibu AVA is an American Viticultural Area in the Santa Monica Mountains, within western Los Angeles County, California. The region was once part of the 200,000 acres (809 km2) Saddle Rock Ranch, created from a 19th-century Spanish and Mexican land grant Rancho Las Virgenes. The wine region is located high in the Santa Monica Mountains, west of Metropolitan Los Angeles in Southern California.

Camp Kilpatrick is a juvenile detention camp located in the Santa Monica Mountains of western Los Angeles County, California. The camp is known for its sports program. Most notable is the camp's American football team, the Kilpatrick Mustangs. The 1993 Emmy Award-winning documentary film Gridiron Gang documents the team's 1990 season, and the 2006 film of the same name is loosely based on those events. The Camp Kilpatrick athletics program was ended in August 2012.

Holy Family is a private, independent traditionalist Catholic chapel located behind a guarded gate at 30188 W. Mulholland Highway, Agoura Hills, California, United States. It is not affiliated with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Its 70 or so members are traditional Catholics, including some that hold a sedevacantism position. They reject many or all of the reforms introduced by the Second Vatican Council and worship according to earlier Roman Catholic rites including the Tridentine Mass. The Rev. Clement Procopio, a Franciscan priest, was instructed not to offer Mass in the Diocese by Phoenix Bishop Thomas J. O'Brien. The chapel is supported by the non-profit A.P. Reilly Foundation, which is funded by actor/director Mel Gibson. According to 2008 IRS filings, the foundation's assets, including real property, total $42 million.

The Peter Strauss Ranch is a regional park unit of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area - and operated by the National Park Service as Peter Strauss Ranch Park. It is located in the central Santa Monica Mountains — on Mulholland Highway near Agoura Hills, Southern California, in the Western United States. The ranch is named after the actor Peter Strauss, who was the last private owner-resident of the property. Much of the ranch was destroyed during the Woolsey Fire in November 2018.

Malibu Coast is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. California. The area is a long, narrow, region along the Pacific coast within the Santa Monica Mountains. It was established on July 17, 2014, by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Treasury after a three-year review of the petition, initiated by Elliott Dolin, owner of Dolin Malibu Estate Vineyards, submitted by Ralph Jens Carter, on behalf of the vintners and grape growers in the Malibu area, proposing the viticultural area named "Malibu Coast." The Malibu Coast viticultural area encompasses the city of Malibu and is bordered by the city of Los Angeles to the east with the cities of Oxnard and Camarillo to the west. The Simi Valley and Simi Hills are located to the north, as well as the heavily urbanized regions and the communities of Thousand Oaks, Conejo Valley, Calabasas, and Greenwich Village. The Malibu Coast appellation encompasses approximately 44,590 acres (70 sq mi) of privately owned land within the rugged terrain of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and contains as sub-appellations the previously established Saddle Rock–Malibu and Malibu–Newton Canyon viticultural areas. Its plant hardiness zones are 9b, 10 and 11a.

Zuma and Trancas Canyons are an area of Federal parkland to the west of Malibu, California. It lies within the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and is the largest piece of Federal parkland in the NRA. Zuma Canyon contains a number of trails for hikers, of varying severity, and is the home of a range of wildlife, including the wrentit, known as the "Voice of the Chaparral". The park's eastern boundary is marked by Kanan Dume Road (county route N-9) and the north end of the parkland is crossed by the Backbone Trail, a 67 mile pathway through the Santa Monica Mountains.The name zuma is derived from a Chumash word meaning "abundance".
