Deansgate Square

Quay Bar was a building situated next to the Bridgewater Canal basin in Castlefield, Manchester. It was designed by architects Stephenson Bell (now stephenson STUDIO) for their client Wolverhampton & Dudley Brewery (better known as Banks). Shortly after completion in 1998, the building won a number of awards, including an MSA Design Award, RIBA Award and the Manchester Civic Society Award. It was also shortlisted for the prestigious Stirling Prize.With competing bars and restaurants opening closer to the city centre, particularly the popular Deansgate Locks, Quay Bar faced difficulties in attracting the same crowds it achieved when it first opened. The bar closed in 2003. It was bought by Urban Splash who rebranded it as the rather short-lived Modo Clubroom, and was subsequently let out on an occasional basis to Vietnamese military themed bar operator Canteena.The building became vacant in 2005, subsequently falling into disrepair. During 2006-07 it became notorious for its use by drug addicts, suffering a number of arson attacks and prompting calls for its demolition.As of November 2007 the building has been demolished, due to its dilapidation and frequent vandalism.

The River Medlock is a river in Greater Manchester, England, which rises near Oldham and flows south and west for 10 miles (16 kilometres) to join the River Irwell in Manchester city centre.

Castlefield Congregational Chapel is a building located at 378 Deansgate, Manchester, England. The building originally opened as a Congregational chapel in 1858, and was designed by the local architect Edward Walters. It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building. It is located in Castlefield, an Urban Heritage Park.The building was converted to a sound recording studio in the 1980s and owned by Pete Waterman, best known for Stock Aitken Waterman. Rick Astley recorded "Never Gonna Give You Up" in the chapel. Waterman sold the building in 2006 and it has since been converted to offices.

The Castlefield Gallery is an art gallery in Manchester, England, located at 2 Hewitt Street, Knott Mill, Manchester. The gallery, a resource for contemporary visual artists, was founded by Manchester Artists Studio Association in 1984. The gallery has an exhibition and events programme, provides a professional development scheme for artists in its Project Space and PureScreen screens film and video works.

The Blade is a 154 m (505 ft) tall, 51-storey residential skyscraper under construction in Manchester, England. The building is part of the second phase of the Crown Street development area at the southern end of Deansgate in the city centre, behind the Deansgate Square skyscraper cluster. It was designed by SimpsonHaugh architects and as of 2023 is the fourth-tallest building in Greater Manchester.

The Boardwalk nightclub was located on Little Peter Street in Manchester, England. This medium-sized club and rehearsal studios, owned by David, Colin and Donald Sinclair was a popular live music venue in the late 1980s and early 1990s where bands such as Oasis and Northside made their live debuts. It was also one of Manchester's most prominent nightclubs. Along with other clubs like the Haçienda, and the International, the Boardwalk provided an important live venue for many local bands. The Man From Delmonte, the Charlatans, Happy Mondays, Female Brothers and James, who played the opening night in 1986, were amongst the many Manchester bands that appeared frequently at the Boardwalk before acquiring international recognition or disappearing into obscurity. The venue also saw a variety of other acts including Oasis, Hole, Sonic Youth, Chumbawamba, Jayne County, Verve, Bob Mould and Rage Against the Machine. The Membranes fronted by John Robb who wrote the best selling book on Manchester music 'The North Will Rise Again' were the first band to rehearse there. In later years, until the club closed in 1999, former Haçienda DJ Dave Haslam played the regular Yellow night at the Boardwalk. Haslam subsequently wrote a book about the Manchester music scene at the time, Manchester, England. Funkademia was started by DJ and promoter David Payne at The Boardwalk in 1995 and has since gone on to be Manchester's longest running club night, currently at the Mint Lounge. The nightclub site now has a blue plaque, featuring a smiley face beneath the description of The Boardwalk as a "Madchester Venue Nightclub and Rehearsal Rooms".

Three60 is a cylindrical residential skyscraper under construction in Manchester, England. The building is part of the second phase of the Crown Street development area at the southern end of Deansgate in the city centre, behind the Deansgate Square skyscraper cluster. It was designed by SimpsonHaugh architects. When completed, at 154 m (505 ft) tall, the 51-storey tower will be the joint fourth-tallest building in Greater Manchester alongside its sister tower The Blade.

The building is part of the first phase of the Crown Street development area at the southern end of Deansgate in the city centre, behind the Deansgate Square skyscraper cluster. It was designed by SimpsonHaugh architects and as of 2023 is the fifth-tallest building in Greater Manchester.

Deansgate is a railway station in Manchester city centre, England, 1,100 yards (1 km) west of Manchester Piccadilly, close to Castlefield at the junction of Deansgate and Whitworth Street West. It is part of the Manchester station group. It is linked to Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop and the Manchester Central Convention Complex by a footbridge built in 1985; Deansgate Locks, The Great Northern Warehouse and the Science and Industry Museum are also nearby. The platforms are elevated, reached by lift or stairs, or by the walkway from the Manchester Central Complex. The ticket office, staffed full-time, is between street and platform levels. There are no ticket barriers, although manual ticket checks take place on a daily basis. It is on the Manchester to Preston and the Liverpool to Manchester lines, both heavily used by commuters. Most tickets purchased by passengers to Deansgate are issued to Manchester Stations or Manchester Central Zone, therefore actual usage is not reflected in these statistics, due to the difficulty in splitting the ticket sales correctly between the four grouped stations (Piccadilly, Victoria, Oxford Road and Deansgate).

Castlefield Viaduct is a 330 m (1,080 ft) disused railway viaduct built in 1892, which used to carry heavy rail traffic in and out of the Great Northern Warehouse, located in the Castlefield area of Manchester, England. It closed in 1969 and stood unused, though has been regularly maintained by National Highways. The Grade II listed viaduct was designed by Heenan & Froude, the same engineering company behind Blackpool Tower. The viaduct is part of the Historical Railways Estate.

Castlefield is an inner-city conservation area in Manchester, North West England. The conservation area which bears its name is bounded by the River Irwell, Quay Street, Deansgate and Chester Road. It was the site of the Roman era fort of Mamucium or Mancunium which gave its name to Manchester. It was the terminus of the Bridgewater Canal, the world's first industrial canal, built in 1764; the oldest canal warehouse opened in 1779. The world's first passenger railway terminated here in 1830, at Liverpool Road railway station and the first railway warehouse opened here in 1831. The Rochdale Canal met the Bridgewater Canal at Castlefield in 1805 and in the 1830s they were linked with the Mersey and Irwell Navigation by two short cuts. In 1848 the two viaducts of the Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway crossed the area and joined each other, two further viaducts and one mainline station Manchester Central railway station followed. It has a tram station, Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop (formerly G-Mex) providing frequent Manchester Metrolink services to Eccles, Bury, Altrincham, Manchester Piccadilly, East Didsbury and Rochdale. Castlefield was designated a conservation area in 1980 and the United Kingdom's first designated urban heritage park in 1982.

Deansgate-Castlefield is a tram stop on Greater Manchester's Metrolink light rail system, on Deansgate in the Castlefield area of Manchester city centre. It opened on 27 April 1992 as G-Mex tram stop, taking its name from the adjacent G-Mex Centre, a concert, conference and exhibition venue; the G-Mex Centre was rebranded as Manchester Central in 2007, prompting the Metrolink stop to be renamed on 20 September 2010. The station underwent redevelopment in 2014–15 to add an extra platform in preparation for the completion of the Second City Crossing in 2016–17. Deansgate-Castlefield serves as a transport hub by integrating with National Rail services from Deansgate railway station by a footbridge. Exits from the station lead to the Great Northern Warehouse, the reconstructed Mamucium Roman Fort, the Beetham Tower, and Deansgate Locks. Part of Zone 1, the stop is one of the most used on the Metrolink network.
