Deep River, Indiana

John Wood Old Mill, also known as Wood's Mill and John Wood Mill, is a historic sawmill and grist mill located at Merrillville, Lake County, Indiana. It was built in 1837–1838, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, rectangular brick building. It has a gambrel roof with overhanging eaves. The mill operated into the 1930s.: 2–3  The mill was restored by the Lake County Parks and Recreation Department in 1976.It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Deep River Waterpark is a seasonal summer outdoor water park that operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and winter ice skating rink operated by the Lake County Parks and Recreation Department in Crown Point, Indiana. Deep River Water Park features 14 attractions and is the second largest publicly owned waterpark in the United States. It is located on U.S. 30 just east of Interstate 65 and just northeast of the Lake County seat Crown Point, and features two lazy rivers and a variety of slides and a wave pool.

Ainsworth was an unincorporated community in Ross Township, Lake County, Indiana. The Grand Trunk Railroad was extended to Ainsworth in 1880.In the early 1990s the area containing Ainsworth was annexed by the city of Hobart. A failed attempt to fight the annexation would have seen the area incorporated into the town of Ainsworth, thus bringing back the name of the old village. It is located near the intersection of Indiana State Road 51 and the Canadian National Railway (formerly the Grand Trunk Western Railroad).

Nike Missile Site C-47 is a former missile site near Portage, Indiana. The Nike defense system was a Cold War-era missile system in the United States. Nike missiles were radar guided, supersonic antiaircraft missiles. The planners hoped that Nike would make a direct attack on the U.S. so costly as to be futile.Nike missile sites were constructed in defensive rings around major urban and industrial areas. Chicago was likely selected because of its population, the presence of several military bases, and the Gary, Indiana, steel industry. Nike C-47 (Nike 1B, 1C/12H, 20A/12L-U, (8L-H)) near Portage was designed with two units nearly a mile apart. The first section was the Launcher Area located on the south side of County Road 700 North, approximately 1⁄4 mile (0.40 km) west of County Road 500 West, in Porter County, Indiana. The second area was the Control Area, also known as the Administration Area, located on the north side of County Road 600 North, near Wheeler. Construction of the base began in 1954 and it was operational by 1956.
