Longos, Achaea

The river Foinikas (Greek: Φοίνικας, Ancient Greek: Φοίνιξ) is a river in the northern Peloponnese, Greece. It is also known as Salmenikos River (Σαλμένικος). Its source is on the north-eastern slopes of Mount Panachaiko, near the village of Vounopirgos (Loubista). It empties into the Gulf of Corinth, between the villages of Longos and Kamares. Major tributaries are Kloumenitis (intermittent stream) and Stachtaina (intermittent stream). The total length of the river is 22.8 kilometres (14.2 mi) and it flows along the following places, from the source downstream: Damakini, Salmenikο, Kamares. Foinikas is an intermittent river that has a continuous flow in all its length from October to June every year (during years of normal rainfall). Close to the sources, the river has a yearly flow but during the summer months, the water is used for agriculture.

Kamares (Greek: Καμάρες) is a village and a community in the east-northeastern part of Achaea, Greece. Kamares was an independent commune until 1994 when it became part of the municipality of Erineos, of which it was the seat. Erineos became part of the municipality Aigialeia in 2011. The community Kamares consists of the villages Kamares, Bouka and Pefka. Kamares is situated near the Gulf of Corinth, 9 km northwest of Aigio. The Greek National Road 8A (Patras - Corinth) and the railway from Patras to Corinth ( not in operation anymore since OSE announced the suspension of all the rail service in the Peloponnese in January 2011) run through the village.

Erineos (Greek: Ερινεός) is a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Aigialeia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 98.710 km2. Its seat of administration was in the village of Kamares. Erineos stretches between the northeastern slopes of the Panachaiko mountain and the Gulf of Corinth. The river Foinikas (Phoenix) (or Salmenikos) flows through the municipality. The Greek National Road 8A (Patras - Aigio - Corinth) and the railway from Patras to Corinth run through the municipal unit. It is located about 10 km west of Aigio.

Selianitika (Greek: Σελιανίτικα) is a coastal village in northern Achaea, Peloponnese, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit of Sympoliteia. It is located 6 km northwest of Aigio and 26 km east of Patras, at about 30m above sea level. The villages Selianitika and Longos (adjacent to the northwest) share a fine gravel beach on the Gulf of Corinth which is approximately 1.5 km long. Both villages are among the most popular summer destinations of Achaea.The village had a population of 856 in 2021. The village is crossed by the Greek National Road 8 and has an interchange to Athens-Corinth-Patras motorway. In the new (under construction) railway line Athens-Kiato-Patras there will be a railway stop south of the village.

Erineus or Erineos (Ancient Greek: Ἐρινεός), also known as Erineum or Erineon (Ἐρινεόν) was a town of ancient Achaea, mentioned by Pausanias as the port of Rhypes. Thucydides writes that during Peloponnesian War, Erineus was used as the base of the Peloponnesian League's fleet that was to guarantee the transport of supplies to the army that was in Sicily. In the vicinity of Erineus a naval battle was fought against the Athenian fleet that was in Naupactos in 413 BCE. Pliny the Elder says it was one of the towns - along with Sicyon, Aigeira and Aegion - where the inhabitants of Helike and Boura took refuge when these were submerged as a consequence of the earthquake of 373 BCE.Its site has been located near modern Lampiri (Λαμπίρι, Λαμπίριον).

Ziria (Greek: Ζήρια) is a village and a community in Achaea, Greece. It is situated in the hills near the Gulf of Corinth coast, 11 km northwest of Aigio. The community consists of the villages Ziria, Ano Ziria, Kyani Akti, Lampiri, Rodini and Sarkounas. Ziria is part of the municipal unit of Erineos. It had a population of 501 in 2011, and the population of the community was 822. Until 1998, Ziria was an independent commune. It became part of Erineos under the 1998 Capodistrian Plan, and Erineos became part of Aigialeia through the 2011 Kallikratis reform.

Sympoliteia (Greek: Συμπολιτεία) is a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Aigialeia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 85.505 km2. Population 6,311 (2011). The seat of the municipality was in Rododafni.

Rododafni (Greek: Ροδοδάφνη, before 1928: Μουρλά - Mourla) is a town in northern Achaea, Greece. It is located on the Gulf of Corinth, 4 km northwest of Aigio and 28 km east of Patras. Rododafni had a population of 2,564 in 2011. It was the seat of the municipality of Sympoliteia, which is a municipal unit of the municipality Aigialeia since 2011. The Greek National Road 8A (Athens - Corinth - Patras) and the railway Corinth - Patras pass through the town. Rododafni's beach and the area along the coast is called Akoli, while the settlement lying in between is called Avythos.

Chatzis (Greek: Χατζής) is a village in the municipal unit of Aigio, Achaea, Greece. It is located 6 km southwest of Aigio town. Chatzis had a population of 51 in 2011. Chatzis suffered damage from the 2007 Greek forest fires.

Mageiras (Greek: Μάγειρας) is a mountain village in the municipal unit of Sympoliteia, Achaea, Greece. It is located in the eastern foothills of the Panachaiko, 2 km south of Arravonitsa, 8 km southwest of Rododafni and 10 km west of Aigio. In 2011, it had a population of 55.

Arravonitsa (Greek: Αρραβωνίτσα) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Erineos, Achaea, Greece. It is located in a hilly area, 15 km west of Aigio. The community consists of the villages Arravonitsa and Synania. In 2001 Arravonitsa had a population of 166 for the village and 189 for the community.

The Aigio General Hospital (Greek: Γενικό Νοσοκομείο Αιγίου), also known as General Hospital of Eastern Achaia - Unit of Aigio is a public general hospital situated a few kilometres out of the town of Aigio in the Peloponnese peninsula of southern Greece. It has a capacity of 100 beds. The hospital performs the greatest number of laparoscopic surgeries in Greece, while more than 50,000 people are examined on a yearly basis. The total personnel of the hospital numbered 217 in 2013. It supports the operation of two sectors. The internal medicine sector (capacity 50 beds) has three departments: Internal Medicine (known as "pathology" in Greek medical practice), Cardiology and Paediatrics. The surgical sector (capacity 50 beds) has 6 departments: Surgical, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedic, Urological, Dental and Anaesthesiology. In 2007 the operating rooms of the surgery department were destroyed by fire and were totally rebuilt in 2008.
