Los Osos Oaks State Natural Reserve

Los Osos Back Bay is a prehistoric Chumash archaeological site in the Los Osos Valley, near the coast in San Luis Obispo County, California. These ancient Californian Native Americans had a significant settlement, now named "Los Osos Back Bay," on a stabilized sand dune. It is to the west of the Elfin Forest Natural Area, which has another midden within it. Los Osos Back Bay is also the present day name for the southernmost part of the Morro Bay estuary, known by the locals as "the back bay". It is where the native Chumash at the eponymous archaeological site gathered marine resources, as coastal tribes along this part of the California coast regularly did.

Los Osos (Spanish for "the bears") is an unincorporated town in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. Located on the Central Coast of California, Los Osos had a population estimated to be 16,533 in 2019. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Los Osos as a census-designated place (CDP).

Baywood-Los Osos (locally known as Los Osos-Baywood Park) is an unincorporated community in western San Luis Obispo County, California. The population was 14,351 in the 2000 census. It includes the communities of Los Osos, which is located near Morro Bay, Baywood Park, and the former community of Cuesta-by-the-Sea.

The Elfin Forest Natural Area is a nature preserve protecting a unique plant community in Los Osos-Baywood Park, San Luis Obispo County, central California. It consists of prehistoric sand dunes, rising 150 feet (46 m) above southern Morro Bay, on the north of Los Osos-Baywood Park.

Los Osos Creek is a stream in coastal San Luis Obispo County that discharges to Morro Bay. Los Osos Creek rises in the Clark Valley on the slopes of the Irish Hills. After flowing through Clark Valley, Los Osos Creek flows into Los Osos Valley. In prehistoric times Chumash Native Americans had a significant settlement on a stabilized sand dune near the mouth of Los Osos Creek.

Morro Bay State Park is a state park on the Morro Bay lagoon, in western San Luis Obispo County, on the Central Coast of California. On the lagoon's northeastern and eastern edges in the park, there are saltwater and brackish marshes that support thriving bird populations.

Morro Bay State Marine Recreational Management Area (SMRMA) and Morro Bay State Marine Reserve (SMR) are two marine protected areas that provide protection for Morro Bay Estuary on California's central coast. The two marine protected areas together encompass 3.31 square miles (8.6 km2). The SMR protects all marine life within its boundaries. Fishing and take of any living marine resources is prohibited. nWithin the SMRMA, fishing or taking any living marine resources is prohibited with the exception that, with a valid state water bottom lease and permit, the recreational taking of finfish and the aquaculture of oysters is permitted north of latitude 35° 19.70′ N. Recreational hunting of waterfowl is allowed unless otherwise restricted by hunting regulations.

Cerro Cabrillo, also known locally as Cabrillo Peak, is a rocky mountain in eastern Morro Bay State Park, San Luis Obispo County, central California.

Hollister Peak is a 1,404-foot (428 m) volcanic plug located near Morro Bay, California. It is one of the Nine Sisters, and receives its name from the family that lived at its base in 1884. It was of religious importance to the Chumash. Hollister Peak is on private property and has no public access.

The Morro Bay State Park Museum of Natural History is a natural history museum in Morro Bay State Park, Morro Bay, California, United States, opened in 1962. The museum sits on a hill overlooking the Morro Bay estuary, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, with a view of Morro Rock. It is the only natural history museum in the California State Park system.From 1993 through 2002, the museum was remodeled in a three-phase modernization project, with exhibits by Exhibitgroup Giltspur, which has also created exhibits for the Smithsonian and J. Paul Getty museums. Interactive displays focus on the ecology of the Morro Bay estuary, including building a sand dune, operating the hydrologic cycle and creating food chains.

Rancho Pecho y Islay was an 8,856.8-acre (35.842 km2) Mexican land grant in the Irish Hills, Montaña de Oro State Park and Diablo Canyon Power Plant in present-day San Luis Obispo County, California.

Rancho Cañada de los Osos (Valley of the Bears) was a 23,574.2-acre (95.401 km2) Mexican land grant in Los Osos Valley in present-day San Luis Obispo County, California. Rancho Cañada de Los Osos was granted by Governor Juan B. Alvarado to Victor Linares, in 1842. The Cañada de Los Osos grant extended from the Pacific Coast, along Los Osos Creek and the Los Osos Valley to almost present-day San Luis Obispo, and southward encompassed, Los Osos, Montaña de Oro State Park north of Islay Creek and the northern Irish Hills.
