Selma, Texas

Retama Park is a class 1 pari-mutuel horse racetrack located in Selma, Texas, United States, that opened in 1995. Live quarter horse races meet July to September. Simulcast racing is shown year-round. The track is owned by the Retama Development Corporation (a quasi-governmental entity formed by the City of Selma) and managed by Penn Entertainment.

The Real Life Amphitheater is an open-air amphitheater, located in Selma, Texas. In 2001 it was opened as the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. It closed in 2009 due to a lack of performances. Its overall capacity is 20,000, with 6,000 seated and approximately 14,000 on the lawn, and has more than 4,200 parking spaces. The facility was purchased by River City Community Church in 2011 and hosts a wide variety of entertainment and community outreach events.

Bracken is an unincorporated community in Comal County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 76 in 2000. It is included in the Greater San Antonio area.

Brigadier General Kenneth Raymond Fleenor (October 2, 1929 – December 10, 2010) was a senior officer in the United States Air Force. A prisoner of war in Vietnam, Fleenor served as Base Commander of Randolph Air Force Base in the late 1970s. He was also mayor of Selma, Texas, after his military retirement.

Veterans Memorial High School is a public high school in unincorporated Bexar County, Texas, United States. It is operated by the Judson Independent School District, and classified as a 5A school by the UIL. The school has a San Antonio address but is not within the San Antonio city limits. In 2017, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency, with a 1-Star Distinction for Academic Achievement in ELA/Reading.The school was originally named after Willis Mackey, who retired in 2014 after serving seven years as the district superintendent, but the school board voted to change the name after controversy arose in the community over naming the school after him. The school’s name was changed to Veterans Memorial High School before it opened in August 2016 with 600 freshmen and sophomore students. A junior class was added for the 2017-2018 school year, and Veterans High graduated its first class of seniors in May 2019.

Universal City is a city in Bexar County, Texas, United States with a small portion in Guadelupe County. It borders San Antonio to the northeast, and is adjacent to Randolph Air Force Base. The population was 19,720 at the 2020 census. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) is a public community college in Universal City, Texas. It is the newest of the five colleges in the Alamo Community College District. Its athletics teams compete as the Nighthawks and its mascot is Nico. The college was established in 2007 after a successful $450 million bond election in November 2005. Classes began at its current location in August 2008 with an enrollment of 4,000 students. Enrollment increased to 5,200 in 2009 and 6,511 in 2010 as new buildings provided available space. Projected full enrollment is 16,000.
