Cowichan Bay

Cowichan Indian Reserve No. 1 is an Indian reserve in British Columbia, located south of the city of Duncan.

Mount Tzouhalem is a mountain on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, 4 kilometres east-northeast of Duncan in the municipality of North Cowichan. It is situated between Quamichan Lake, Maple Bay and Cowichan Bay. The mountain is part of the municipal forest lands. Part of the mountain is an 18-hectare ecological reserve. It is popular with hikers and mountain bikers. It gives views towards Saltspring Island, the Coastal Mountains of the Lower Mainland and, on a clear day, Mount Baker in Washington state. There was a large Christian cross on one cliffside. The original wooden cross, placed by local Catholic churches in the 1970s, was replaced by the Knights of Columbus with a welded version in the late 1980s. In the night from July 16th to July 17th 2021, unknown individuals removed the cross for unknown reasons.

The Cowichan River is a Canadian Heritage River on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. Its headwater is Cowichan Lake. The river flows east over Skutz Falls and through Marie Canyon towards its mouth at Cowichan Bay. The river's drainage basin is 795 square kilometres (307 sq mi) in size.The Cowichan River is the centre of a provincial park, Cowichan River Provincial Park, on southern Vancouver Island. The park is home to hundreds of animal species, including the native and endangered Vancouver Island ermine and more than 200 species of birds.The river is the namesake of Cowichan Herald Extraordinary at the Canadian Heraldic Authority.In the decade leading up to 2014, water levels dropped to the point that it "required the trucking of fish up the river," and the Cowichan Valley Regional District instituted water restrictions for residents.Water from the river is used in the pulp and paper mill operated by Catalyst Paper in Crofton.The Cowichan River had once had salmon so plentiful that "old-timers talk about having been able to cross on the backs of fish so thick they were like steppingstones," and was world-renowned for its fly fishing. However, in 2023, due to the impacts of climate change, the river experienced a major fish die-off.

The Koksilah River () is a river on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, flowing northeast to enter Cowichan Bay just southeast of the City of Duncan. Part of the river is protected as Koksilah River Provincial Park. It is the namesake of the community of Koksilah, which is just southeast of Duncan. Kinsol Trestle is built across the river.

The Hillbank station is located in Hillbank, British Columbia. The station was a flag stop on Via Rail's Dayliner service. The line and station closed in 2011 due to poor track conditions.

Sansum Narrows is a strait or channel between Vancouver Island (W) and Saltspring Island (E) in the Southern Gulf Islands region of British Columbia, Canada. The narrows are between Maple Bay and Tl’ulpalus.The powerline HVDC Vancouver-Island crosses Sansum Narrows in a 1900 metres long span, connecting Salt Spring Island to Vancouver Island's electric power.

Cobble Hill, occasionally—and mistakenly—referred to as Cobble Hill Mountain, is located in Cobble Hill, British Columbia. It is a major attraction for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts in the area. It is 336 meters in elevation, or 1102 feet. It is mostly covered in evergreen and maple trees, arbutus, and small amounts of brush where the hillside is not too steep. It also has a network of trails and paths running along the hillside in a switchback fashion to accommodate for the steep slopes. The majority of the hill is a regional park, and contains small picnic area, dog park, a dirt jump park at the base for bicycle riders, and picnic areas on both sides of the summit. From the top, there are views of the Cowichan Valley, Saanich Peninsula and Gulf Islands. The hill is mostly common rock, with a small amount of limestone and granite, and a layer of topsoil that is deep enough to support the large trees near and on the hill. The hill is within easy walking distance of the town centre and the nearby train and bus stations.

Maple Bay is a seaside community located in the Cowichan Valley of southern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. A narrow inlet and surrounded by smooth, pebbled beaches, Maple Bay is home to marine activity all year round. Maple Bay is a small town with a population of 2,640. The sheltered haven of Maple Bay is situated halfway up Sansum Narrows, which separates Vancouver Island from Saltspring Island, the largest and nearest of the southern Gulf Islands. Maple Bay is serviced by floatplane, Salt Spring Air and Harbour Air Seaplanes that fly regular scheduled flights several times a day from Maple Bay Marina, to Ganges (Ganges Water Aerodrome) on Saltspring Island and then on to Vancouver (Vancouver International Water Airport/Vancouver International Airport and Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre).There are three commercial marinas, a public dock, as well as the Maple Bay Yacht Club and the Maple Bay Rowing Club. Maple Bay Marina is replacing many older boat sheds with new style, fire resistant yacht enclosures, creating one of the safest and most environmentally responsible marinas in British Columbia. Maple Bay Marina has also been recognised with an Eco-Rating of 5 anchors for their Environmental Best Practices by the Georgia Strait Alliance Clean Marine program.

Cobble Hill is a small community on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. It is located approximately 45 kilometres (28 mi) north of Victoria on Highway 1 in the Cowichan Valley Regional District, and is known for its agricultural surroundings, and for Cobble Hill itself, which gave the village its name. According to the 2016 census, there are 5,019 people living in Cobble Hill. The town features many hiking trails and paths cover the hills and forests of this area, which is well known for its mountain biking opportunities. More recently the area has become famous for its vineyards, which have won awards for their wines. The settlement was served by the Via Rail Victoria – Courtenay train until suspended indefinitely in 2011. The Island Rail Corridor passes through the area. The village centre contains basic shops and services including a post office, pub, coffee shop and a small grocery store. The village centre also has a couple of parks, a dog park, community centre and an independent school (K-7). Parts of the 1994 version of Little Women from the novel by Louisa May Alcott were filmed here.

Burgoyne Bay Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada located on southwestern Saltspring Island near Fulford Harbour and facing northwest to Sansum Narrows, which is the channel between Saltspring and Vancouver Island. Mount Maxwell Provincial Park lies adjacent, to the north. Burgoyne Bay was named in 1859 by Captain Richards for Commander Hugh Talbot Burgoyne VC, an officer aboard HMS Ganges.The park was established in 2004 via private land acquisition with an area of 334 hectares (830 acres), and expanded in 2007 to 524 hectares (1,290 acres).

Quamichan Lake (Raven Field) Water Aerodrome (TC LID: CRF6) is located on Quamichan Lake, 2.9 nautical miles (5.4 km; 3.3 mi) north northeast of Duncan, British Columbia, Canada. The airfield is owned and operated by John F Howroyd, who also owns Quamichan Lake (Raven Field) Airport.
