East Dagon Township

Dagon Seikkan Township (Burmese: ဒဂုံဆိပ်ကမ်း မြို့နယ် [dəɡòʊɰ̃ sʰeɪʔkáɰ̃ mjo̰nɛ̀]) is an urban township of Yangon, Myanmar.

Ywathagyi railway station (Burmese: ရွာသာကြီးဘူတာ) is a railway station on the Yangon–Mandalay Railway in Yangon, Myanmar.

South Dagon Township (also South Dagon Myothit; Burmese: ဒဂုံမြို့သစ်တောင်ပိုင်း မြို့နယ် [dəɡòʊɰ̃ mjo̰ðɪʔ tàʊɰ̃báɪɰ̃ mjo̰nɛ̀]) is located in the southeastern part of Yangon, Myanmar. The township comprises 26 wards and three village tracts, and shares borders with North Dagon Township and East Dagon Township in the north, Thingangyun Township in the west across the Pazundaung Creek, the Bago River in the east, and Dagon Seikkan Township in the south. South Dagon is one of the new satellite towns founded in 1989 by the military government. The township has 31 primary schools, seven middle schools and three high schools. It is home to the University of Culture, Yangon.

Togyaunggale also spelled and pronounced as Toe Gyaung Kalay is a town in southern Myanmar under Yangon State within North/East Dagon Township. In fact the region is commanded by North Dagon or East Dagon Township and there also has a railway station located in Toe Gyaung Kalay that can reach to National railway lines outside Yangon City. It also can reach to Pego City in Pego State. Toe Gyaung Kalay is placing in border between North and South or East and South Dagon Townships. The rail line is also connected with Yangon City Circle Rail route, not just from City Central Station. There also closed to a Pagoda, monastery, National Swimming pool for Myanmar sport selections and Bus Gates. Southern to South Dagon Township.

The National University of Arts and Culture, Yangon (Burmese: အမျိုးသားယဉ်ကျေးမှုနှင့် အနုပညာတက္ကသိုလ် (ရန်ကုန်) [jɪ̀ɰ̃tɕém̥ṵ tɛʔkəθò (jàɰ̃ɡòʊɰ̃)]) is a public university, located in Yangon, Myanmar, that offers bachelor's and post-graduate degree programs in traditional Burmese performing and visual arts. The university's primary language of instruction is in English, and it accepts interested foreign students.

Dagon University (Burmese: ဒဂုံ တက္ကသိုလ် [dəɡòʊɰ̃ tɛʔkəθò]), located in North Dagon, Yangon, is one of the largest universities in Myanmar. The university, established in 1993, offers bachelor's and master's degrees in liberal arts and sciences to full-time, part-time and online students. Dagon University also offers a full-time four-year law degree program. The university's 1,582-acre (6.40 km2) campus in the outskirts of Yangon is one of the largest campuses in the country.

The University of Dental Medicine, Yangon (Burmese: သွားဘက်‌ဆိုင်ရာ ဆေး တက္ကသိုလ် (ရန်ကုန်) [θwábɛʔ sʰàɪɰ̃jà sʰé tɛʔkəθò (jàɰ̃ɡòʊɰ̃)]), is the leading university of dental medicine, located in Yangon, Myanmar. The university, along with the University of Dental Medicine, Mandalay, is only one of two universities of dental medicine in the country. The annual intake into both dental universities is 300 but from 2017 it introduced the new intake and decrease to only 100 per university per year. The country with a population of over 50 million had only about 1500 dentists in 2005.

Basic Education High School No. 3 Dagon (Burmese: အခြေခံ ပညာ အထက်တန်း ကျောင်း အမှတ် (၃) ဒဂုံ) is a public high school located a few miles north of downtown Yangon, Myanmar. It was formerly Myoma Girls National High School founded at 32nd street in downtown Yangon in March 1921 as a sister school of Myoma Boys National High School. The school was moved to its current location in 1929.

Assistance Association of Political Prisoners (Burma) (Burmese: နိုင်ငံရေးအကျဉ်းသားများကူညီစောင့်ရှောက်ရေးအသင်း; abbreviated AAPP or AAPPB) is an independent non-profit organisation founded by Burmese former political prisoners living in exile. Mainly staffed by ex-political prisoners, its main aims are to provide assistance for other Burmese political prisoners (those in prison and those who have been released), and to document news related to them. Its stated aims are “collecting information about political prisoners and prison conditions” and “giving assistance to political prisoners and their families, for example by providing food and medicines, or financial help to enable families to visit their loved ones in prison”.

Thanlyin Bridge (Burmese: သန်လျင် တံတား) is a bridge linking the cities of Thanlyin and Yangon in Myanmar. The bridge crosses the 1-km wide Bago river, about 42 km northeast from the river's confluence with Yangon river. The bridge has a single rail track in the middle, surrounded by a motor roadway on each side.Highway 6 goes over the bridge and connects Yangon with the Thilawa port and Thanlyin Industrial Zone.The bridge will soon be joined by the Thanlyin Bridge 2, which has been under construction since mid-2000s with assistance from Japan.

The Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma, known as the Union of Burma from 1962 to 1974, was the Burmese state under the military dictatorship of Ne Win from 1962 to 1988. It was established by the Union Revolutionary Council (RC), the military junta founded by Ne Win and his allies in the Tatmadaw (Burmese military) after they overthrew the democratically elected government of Prime Minister U Nu in a coup d'état on 2 March 1962. Following the 1962 coup d'état, the RC made the Burmese Way to Socialism Burma's state ideology. Ne Win then founded the Burma Socialist Programme Party (BSPP) as the country's vanguard party on 4 July 1962. For the next 26 years, Ne Win ruled Burma as a dictator, serving as both Chairman of the BSPP (later President of Burma) and Prime Minister of Burma, the country's head of state and the head of government, respectively. Ne Win's governance of Burma was characterised by isolationism, totalitarianism, superstition, xenophobia, and a rejection of Cold War politics. Mass pro-democracy protests in 1988, popularly known as the 8888 Uprising, pressured BSPP officials, including Ne Win, to resign en masse and adopt a multi-party system. However, on 18 September 1988, the Tatmadaw staged a coup d'état against the BSPP, violently ended the protests, and established a new military junta, the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC).

The first fourteen years of post-independence Burma were marred by several communist and ethnic insurgencies. Prominent insurgent groups during this period include the Communist Party of Burma (CPB, "white flags") led by Thakin Than Tun, the Communist Party (Burma) ("red flags") led by Thakin Soe, the People's Volunteer Organisation (Yèbaw Hpyu) led by Bo La Yaung (a member of the Thirty Comrades), the Revolutionary Burma Army (RBA) led by communist officers Bo Zeya, Bo Yan Aung and Bo Yè Htut (all three of them members of the Thirty Comrades), and the Karen National Union (KNU).
