Portbou is a railway station serving Portbou in Catalonia, Spain. It is on the Barcelona–Cerbère railway and the Narbonne–Portbou railway. The station is owned by Adif and is served by Rodalies de Catalunya regional line R11 and Girona commuter rail service line RG1 and TER Occitanie trains also serve the station. The station is a border railway station where all trains have to stop, as those coming from/going into France have to change gauge from 1,668 mm (5 ft 5+21⁄32 in) Iberian gauge to 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+1⁄2 in) standard gauge. Between Portbou railway station and Cerbère railway station in France, both track gauges run through the Balitres tunnel.

Portbou (Catalan pronunciation: [ˌpɔɾˈβɔw]) is a town in the Alt Empordà county, in the Province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. It has a population of 1077 people (2018).Portbou is located near the French border in the Costa Brava region, and frequently serves as a dropping off point for SNCF trains coming from Cerbère in France. Portbou was a small but important point for the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War, as it was one of the few places from where they could get supplies from abroad. Portbou is also where German philosopher Walter Benjamin committed suicide and was buried in 1940. There is a monument in his honor, by Dani Karavan.

Llançà (Catalan pronunciation: [ʎənˈsa]) is a municipality in the comarca of the Alt Empordà in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the coastline of the Costa Brava, between the Cap de Creus and the French frontier and is an important fishing port and tourist centre. The N-260 connects the town with Figueres and continues on to the border at Portbou. The GR 92 long distance footpath, which roughly follows the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, has a staging point at Llançà. Stage 1 links northwards to Portbou, a distance of 9.8 kilometres (6.1 mi), whilst stage 2 links southwards to Cadaqués, a distance of 20.3 kilometres (12.6 mi).

Cerbère station (French: Gare de Cerbère) is the railway station serving the border town Cerbère, Pyrénées-Orientales department, southern France. It is connected to the Portbou railway station in Spain by the Balitres tunnel, which uses standard gauge track for trains continuing in France and Iberian gauge track for trains continuing in Spain; both stations provide an opportunity to change between French and Spanish services. The tunnel provided a walking escape route for defeated Spanish republicans in 1939 at the end of the Spanish Civil War. Cerbère (French pronunciation: [sɛʁbɛʁ] ; Catalan: Cervera de la Marenda) is a commune and railway town in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in southern France. Its inhabitants are called Cerbériens (Cerverins / Cerverines in Catalan). The village is best known for the border railway station, Gare de Cerbère, on the French side of the border on the railway line between Perpignan and Barcelona. Since France and Spain use different rail gauges, the border stations of Cerbère and Portbou are quite busy with various transfer or gauge adjustment operations.

The Belvédère du Rayon Vert is a former hotel in Cerbère, France, designed in the art deco style by the Perpignan architect Léon Baille and built between 1928 and 1932. It has the overall appearance of a ship. It had its own cinema and a tennis court on the roof. It closed in 1983.In 1987, the building was protected under the list of historic monuments (inscription). Part of the building has been brought back into use as apartments, with some original features. The building is open to visitors most afternoons. The hotel is located at the north entrance to the municipality of Cerbère, between the railway and the departmental road 914 to Perpignan.

The Musée Maillol de Banyuls-sur-Mer is a private museum at the farm of the sculptor Aristide Maillol where he spent the last years of his life. The farm, "La Métairie", is situated in the Roume valley 4 km from the city center of Banyuls-sur-Mer in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The museum is operated by the Fondation Dina Vierny, which also operates the Musée Maillol in Paris.

Sant Pere de Rodes (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈsam ˈpeɾə ðə ˈrɔðəs]) is a former Benedictine monastery in the comarca of Alt Empordà, in the North East of Catalonia, Spain.

The Observatoire océanologique de Banyuls-sur-Mer, also known as the Laboratoire Arago, is a marine station located in Banyuls-sur-Mer (Pyrénées-Orientales) on the Mediterranean coast of France. The marine station is made up of several joint research laboratories operated by UPMC-Paris 6 (Université Pierre et Marie Curie) and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and one administrative unit. The buildings and land are part of the UPMC-Paris 6 campus. The marine station also houses a small public aquarium and a public garden.

The Quermançó Castle is located about 2 km north of Vilajuïga, Spain, situated on top of a remote hill and directly accessible only on foot from a small road that turns off the N-260. The history of the castle dates back to 1078. It was owned by Counts in the Empúries region. In 1472, during the Catalan Civil War, the castle was occupied by forces loyal to John II. In 1808, the castle was captured by Napoleonic troops, occupied for several years, and was even fortified as a keep for armaments. Despite the additional fortifications, an explosion ordered by Marshal Suchet during the French withdrawal in 1814 left the castle in ruins, which have degraded further into what is now the current state of the castle. The surrealist painter, Salvador Dalí, had a deep affection for the castle and was very familiar with it as it is positioned on the road nearly halfway between his home town of Figueres and his coastal home in Cadaqués. He had several ideas for the castle including creating a natural pipe organ in the castle which would have been "played" by the tramuntana wind that constantly blows in the area. Another was to house a rhinoceros in the basement purely for tourists to come and view, and the other was to acquire the ruins of the castle and make them in the residence of his wife, Gala. Moderate work has been performed on the castle to maintain its current state, but visitors will note that it is on privately owned land. Also of note is that the interior has been closed to the public in order to thwart vandals, so only the exterior is visible to visitors.

La Selva de Mar is a municipality in the comarca of Alt Empordà in Catalonia, Spain. It is quite small with a population of about 197. The nearest town is El Port de la Selva, a common destination for beach-going tourists.

Banyuls is a French appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) for a fortified apéritif or dessert wine made from old vines cultivated in terraces on the slopes of the Catalan Pyrenees in the Roussillon county of France, bordering, to the south, the Empordà wine region in Catalonia in Spain. The AOC production area is limited to four communes of the Côte Vermeille: Banyuls (from which the AOC takes its name), Cerbère, Collioure and Port-Vendres. The boundaries of the AOC are identical to those of the Collioure AOC. Banyuls Grand Cru is an AOC for superior wines that would otherwise be classified as simply Banyuls. They must be matured for 30 months. The grapes permitted are the same.
