Haney, British Columbia

Maple Ridge is a city in British Columbia, Canada. It is located in the northeastern section of Greater Vancouver between the Fraser River and the Golden Ears, which is a group of mountain summits which are the southernmost of the Garibaldi Ranges of the Coast Mountains. Maple Ridge's population in 2021 was 90,990. Its downtown core area was once known as Haney.

Haney Place Exchange is a transit exchange in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada. Opened on August 27, 2008, it is the easternmost major transit exchange in the Metro Vancouver area. Part of the TransLink system, it is home to routes serving Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, and routes to Coquitlam, the Township of Langley, and Braid station in New Westminster.

Port Haney station is a commuter rail station served by the West Coast Express line which connects Vancouver and Mission in British Columbia, Canada. The station is located on the north side of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) tracks in Maple Ridge, just off River Road and 223rd Street. The station opened in 1995, when the West Coast Express began operating. All services are operated by TransLink.

Maple Ridge Secondary is a public high school in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, part of School District 42 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows.

Thomas Haney Secondary School is a self directed learning public high school in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, under the authority of School District 42 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. Athletic organizations within the school are known as the Thomas Haney Thunder.

Arthur Peake Centre (Connex) is an alternate secondary school in Maple Ridge part of School District 42 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. It is located on 116th Ave., across from Thomas Haney Secondary School.

Kanaka Creek is an historic rural residential area located within Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, along the banks of the creek of the same name just east of the district's main town and commercial core of Haney. Just east is Albion and immediately across the Fraser River is Derby or "Old Fort Langley", upstream from which and opposite Albion is Fort Langley. Kanaka Creek was settled by Hawaiian natives in the employ of the Hudson's Bay Company, known as Kanakas, often with local indigenous, usually Kwantlen, wives. Once a thriving community linked closely to the affairs of the fort, like the rancherie outside Fort Vancouver, Kanaka Creek dwindled somewhat when the fort was located further upstream, although some of the original families stayed on for decades. The area has long since been subdivided and is a suburban neighbourhood now, with Kanaka Creek Road, along the creek's west bank, the main arterial, which like the creek runs generally northeast, finally becoming 232nd Street to connect to the Dewdney Trunk Road. Upstream, to the northeast, is Kanaka Creek Regional Park and street connections to Webster's Corners and 240th Street. Although mostly suburban the neighbourhood retains a greenbelt quality because of the protection of the creek by its park and as a salmon spawning stream, and there are still farms operating in some parts of the area.

Kanaka Creek is a tributary of the Fraser River, in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It flows through Maple Ridge, a district municipality at the eastern edge of Metro Vancouver.The creek's name is reflected in the name of the local community of Kanaka Creek. Creek and community both were named for a settlement of Kanakas (Hawaiian natives) in the employ of the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC), known as Kanakas. The HBC trading post of Fort Langley was located just across the Fraser River from Kanaka Creek. Originally Fort Langley was a few kilometres downriver, at what is now Derby. The mouth of Kanaka Creek is between the old and new sites of Fort Langley.

Derby is a locality on the lower Fraser River in northwestern Langley. The site of the original Fort Langley, established in 1827 by the Hudson's Bay Company, and was the first post established in Coast Salish territory. The Fort was later moved 4 km to its present location in 1839. In 1858, when the Royal Engineers arrived, they built barracks in Derby. All signs of the town and fort have since disappeared, with the locality now only an intersection in the middle of farmland. Its church, the Church of St. John the Divine, was moved across the river to what is now Maple Ridge, where it remains today. The only surviving trace of Derby on the map is the Derby Reach of the Fraser, which describes the northward arc of the Fraser south of Haney (Maple Ridge's downtown) and the associated Derby Reach Regional Park.

The Salmon River is a small river in the Township of Langley in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada, flowing northwest then northeast to enter Bedford Channel, which separates McMillan Island from Fort Langley, which is just southwest.The river is one of the only fish stock sustaining streams remaining in the Metro Vancouver area.

Westview Secondary is a public high school in Maple Ridge, British Columbia part of School District 42 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. The school opened to the public in 1973 as SD42's only junior high school. But in 1995, the school had a major refit, and its first grade 12 graduates crossed its stage in June 1995. Presently, Westview Secondary School is the second biggest school in SD42 by size, population, and sports and fitness programs listed. Sports: Wrestling, Rugby, Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, & Ultimate Frisbee. At the beginning of the 2013/2014 school year, Westview lost its principal, Mr. Conner, and vice-principals, Ian Liversidge and McGuaig. The new school year brought in Ms. GieSinger from Thomas Haney Secondary, and Mr. Stanley from Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary. Westview Secondary has a Multi-Purpose Room (It is the Cafeteria and Theater in both), a weight room, a small, and main gym, a metal-shop, wood-shop, and BCIT auto mechanics shop, 2 Mac computer labs, 1 PC lab, 1 library, 7+ science labs, and 20+ classrooms. The school also features a standard football-field-sized turf field. It is the second-largest in SD42.

The McBarge, officially named the Friendship 500, is a former McDonald's restaurant, built on a 187-foot-long (57 m) barge for Expo '86 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Moored on Expo grounds in Vancouver's False Creek, it was the second floating McDonald's location in the world (the first being in St. Louis, Missouri), intended to showcase future technology and architecture. Although the floating design allowed for the barge to operate in a new location following the exhibition, the derelict McBarge was anchored empty in Burrard Inlet from 1991, amid industrial barges and an oil refinery, until it was moved in December 2015 to Maple Ridge, British Columbia. Apart from brief use by its original owner, McDonald's, in 1986, the McBarge has never actively been used for anything and has been drifting from owner to owner for thirty-four years.
