Castelnaud-la-Chapelle

The Château de Castelnaud is a medieval fortress in the commune of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, overlooking the river Dordogne in Périgord, southern France. It was erected to face its rival, the Château de Beynac.

The Céou (French pronunciation: [seu]) is a 55.1 km (34.2 mi) long river in the Lot and Dordogne départements, southwestern France. Its source is at Séniergues, 13 km (8.1 mi) southwest of Rocamadour. It flows generally northwest. It is a left tributary of the Dordogne into which it flows at Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, 9 km (5.6 mi) southwest of Sarlat-la-Canéda.

The Château de Marqueyssac is a 17th-century château and gardens located at Vézac, in the Dordogne Department of France. The château was built at the end of the 17th century by Bertrand Vernet de Marqueyssac, Counselor to Louis XIV, on cliffs overlooking the Dordogne Valley. The original garden à la française was attributed to a pupil of André Le Nôtre, and featured terraces, alleys, and a kitchen garden surrounding the chateau.

The Château de Beynac is a castle situated in the commune of Beynac-et-Cazenac, in the Dordogne département of France. The castle is one of the best-preserved and best known in the region. This Middle Ages construction, with its austere appearance, is perched on top of a limestone cliff, dominating the town and the north bank of the Dordogne.

Vézac (French pronunciation: [vezak]; Occitan: Vesac) is a commune in the Dordogne department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. The main attraction of Vézac is the garden surrounding the Château de Marqueyssac —classified as a remarkable garden by the French Ministry of Culture—which was built in the 17th century by Bertrand Vernet, counsellor to the king. The original garden was created by a pupil of André Le Nôtre, and featured gardens, terraces, and a kitchen garden surrounding the chateau. A grand promenade one hundred metres long was added at the end of the 18th century. Beginning in 1866, the new owner, Julien de Cerval, who was inspired by Italian gardens, built rustic structures, redesigned the parterres, laid out five kilometres of walks, and planted pines and cypress trees.

Beynac-et-Cazenac (French pronunciation: [bɛnak e kaznak]; Occitan: Bainac e Casenac) is a village located in the Dordogne department in southwestern France. The medieval Château de Beynac is located in the commune. The village is classified as one of Les plus beaux villages de France (most beautiful villages of France).

The Château des Milandes is a manor house in the commune of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle in the Dordogne département of France. Built by François de Caumont around 1489, it was, until 1535, the main house of the lords of Caumont, who preferred to live in this manor house instead of the large, uncomfortable medieval castle of Château de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle. In 1940, the entertainer Josephine Baker rented the château and then bought it in 1947.It has been listed as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture since 1986.

Saint-Vincent-de-Cosse (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ vɛ̃sɑ̃ də kɔs]; Languedocien: Sent Vincenç de Còssa) is a commune in the Dordogne department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France, on the Dordogne River. The commune is located 15 km (9.3 mi) south of Sarlat-la-Canéda. It has two church buildings: an original Romanesque twelfth century church, Saint Vincent le Salvadou, and a nineteenth century replacement. It is named for St Vincent de Agen, a local third century saint.
