Kilvey Community Woodland

St. Thomas is the name of an electoral ward of Swansea, Wales. The electoral ward of St. Thomas consists of the following areas: Dan-y-graig, Port Tennant, St. Thomas, Kilvey Hill and the Grenfell Park Area, in the parliamentary constituency of Swansea East. The ward is bounded by Neath Port Talbot to the east; Waterfront to the south; Bonymaen to the north; and Castle and Landore to the east. The River Tawe forms part of the border between St. Thomas and the Castle ward. The northern part of the ward is dominated by Kilvey Hill. A residential belt lies in the central part of the ward. The suburb of St. Thomas is a residential area located immediately east of Swansea city centre. Port Tennant and Grenfell Park, further east of St. Thomas are small council estates comprising fairly run down housing stock. Swansea's Fabian Way Park and Ride facility is located to the far east of the ward.

St Thomas is a suburban district and community in Swansea, Wales. It is a mainly residential area which lies east of Swansea city centre across the River Tawe and falls within the St Thomas ward. Fabian Way divides the traditional residential area from Swansea Docks, which has been developed during the 2010s to create a new area of commercial activities and apartments. At the 2011 UK Census the community had a population of 7,187. It includes the area of Port Tennant. Local amenities in the area include the recently built St Thomas Community Primary school which also incorporates the old Margaret Street Nursery school, Community Centre and local library. St. Thomas is a traditional working class area with a core of 2-3 bedroom mid-Victorian terraces built to accommodate the local dock and industrial workers. Post-war council housing was constructed in the mid twentieth century. On the east bank of the River Tawe in St Thomas, there is a grassy recreational area that includes a footpath and cycle track (part of NCR 43). The area is used for recreation purposes by the local population and there are proposals to re-develop the area with new housing. This proposal has met with some opposition from residents on Kilvey Hill.Neighboring areas are Kilvey Community Woodland and Port Tennant. The area is the birthplace of educator Flora Forster and singer Harry Secombe.

The Kilvey Hill transmitting station was originally built at the summit of Kilvey Hill in Swansea, Wales, by the BBC in 1967 as a relay for VHF and UHF television. VHF television came on air a few months before the UHF services. As built, the station did not radiate VHF FM radio, this was added later. Currently, the hill's transmitters cater for viewers and listeners in the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot area. The transmission station located on top of Kilvey Hill is owned and operated by Arqiva. Freeview digital terrestrial TV was already available at low power from this transmitter before the digital switchover process began, with the first stage taking place on Wednesday 12 August 2009. The second stage was completed on Wednesday 9 September 2009, with the transmitter becoming the first in Wales to complete digital switchover. After the switchover process, analogue channels ceased broadcasting permanently and the Freeview power increased from 383 W ERP to 2 kW ERP, a 7 dB power increase.

Kilvey Hill is a hill in the St. Thomas area of Swansea. It is193 metres (633 ft) high and is classed as a Sub Marilyn. The top of Kilvey Hill enjoys panoramic views of Swansea city centre, Swansea Docks, Swansea Bay, ad the Lower Swansea Valley. The historic name of the hill in Welsh is Y Bigwrn, with its summit known as Pen y Bigwrn. Currently, however, it is generally known as Mynydd Cilfái. There are a number of residential areas dotted around the base of the hill. To the north are Bon-y-maen and Pentrechwyth. To the south are Dan-y-graig, Port Tennant and St. Thomas. At the top of the hill is the TV and radio transmitter station and a telecommunications mast. The central belt of the hill consists of woodland and open grassland, which forms part of the Kilvey Community Woodland. The hill is used to host a number of mountain biking events. Access to the top of the hill by motor vehicles is only via a steep concrete road that leads up to the summit from the village of Bon-y-maen.

Easy Radio is an Independent Local Radio station that broadcasts to the Swansea Bay area. It is owned and operated by Nation Broadcasting and broadcasts on 102.1 FM and DAB from studios near the St Hilary transmitter in the Vale of Glamorgan. The station plays easy listening pop music from the past and present, alongside local news, travel and community information. As of December 2023, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 16,000, according to RAJAR.

Pentrechwyth (English: village on the left) is a village in Swansea, Wales falling within the Bon-y-maen ward. The village approximates to the built up area around Jersey Road just uphill from the junction with the A4217 road and most recently the Copper Quarter development on the old Addis site. The cartoonist Glan Williams was born here.

Upper Bank railway station served the city of Swansea, West Glamorgan, Wales from 1871 to the 1960s on the Swansea Vale Railway.

Maesteg House was a manor house built on the south slope of Kilvey Hill, Swansea. It was built in the mid 19th century by the copper and tin industrialist Pascoe St Leger Grenfell. The building is no longer there, as it was demolished shortly after the First World War to make way for new housing development.

Port Tennant is a suburban district of Swansea, Wales, falling within the St. Thomas ward. Port Tennant lies at the southern foot of Kilvey Hill just east of St. Thomas and is bounded by the Fabian Way to the south. It is a mostly residential area and is the location of one of Swansea's largest public cemeteries - Danygraig Cemetery. The area takes its name from the Tennant family who developed the Tennant Canal and were responsible for developing the area. The Tennant Canal terminates at the Vale of Neath Inn (now closed) in the south east of Port Tennant. Local amenities include the Danygraig Primary School, a few playing fields to the east, a small park for relaxing ; a doctors surgery, some clubs and public houses. Also a graveyard, churches and some handy shops with take away food shops ( Indian, Chinese etc. ) on Port Tennant Road. There is a 550-car space park and ride site just south of the district, off Fabian Way with dedicated buses to Swansea city centre. There is a new bridge over Fabian Way linking Port Tennant to the docks and SA1 area. The Killvey woodland is a great place to walk a see the panoramic views of Swansea Bay and beyond. There are horses stables on the side of the mountain and hotels car dealerships, petrol stations, post offices all within Port Tennant. The Tir John landfill site and adjacent civic amenity site is located east of the residential area. The neighbouring areas are Crymlyn Burrows, Crymlyn Bog, Kilvey Community Woodland, Swansea Docks and St. Thomas.

Danygraig Cemetery is a large cemetery located in the Port Tennant area of Swansea. The cemetery opened in 1856 and covers around 20 acres.The first person to be buried in the cemetery was Fr Charles Kavanagh, the local Roman Catholic Priest responsible for the building of St David's Priory, the oldest Catholic Church in Swansea. When the cemetery was being planned, Fr Kavanagh proposed that it be interdenominational. There are 135 identified casualties of both World Wars buried here as listed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, including French and Norwegian nationals as well as British casualties.

Morfa Stadium was an athletics stadium in the Landore area of Swansea, Wales. Constructed and in use since 1980, it was officially opened as Morfa Stadium on 20 April 1989 by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. The stadium was subsequently used as a residential training facility for the local Swansea Harriers Athletics Club; which produced numerous local, national, international, Commonwealth, Olympic and world competitors. It has now been demolished and the land is occupied by the Morfa Retail Park and the Swansea.com Stadium, home of the city's football and rugby teams, which opened in 2005.Welsh band Stereophonics played a concert at the stadium on 31 July 1999. The concert film, Performance and Cocktails: Live at Morfa Stadium, was released on 1 November 1999.

Pluck Lake is a lake to the east of Swansea city centre in the Morfa area north of Kilvey Hill. It forms part of Kilvey Community Woodland. Pluck Lake, is a refuge for blue-tailed damselfly and the emperor dragonfly. In April 2008 a crocodile was supposedly sighted in the waters of the lake attracting some attention from the media and members from The Centre for Fortean Zoology and was nicknamed the Morfadile or Pluck Ness Monster.
