Argol, Finistère

The Argol Parish close (Enclos paroissial), including the Église Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul, is located in Argol in the arrondissement of Châteaulin in Finistère in Brittany in north-western France. The parish church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul was built in 1575, restored in 1617 and enlarged in 1674. In 1784, the side walls were completely reconstructed as was the porch in 1839. The lintel of the belfry on the west gable of the church records the date 1582, Both the church and the "arc de triomphe" were listed as historical monument in 1914.. The church is also associated with Saint Geneviève who was nominated as the secondary patron in 1634. Records show that there was a priory run from the Benedictine abbey at Landévennec in the Middle Ages.In Breton, Argol means "in danger of dying" and legend has it that it was here that King Gradlon's daughter Dahut died when the legendary city of Ys was engulfed by the sea.

Telgruc-sur-Mer (French pronunciation: [tɛlɡʁyk syʁ mɛʁ], literally Telgruc on Sea; Breton: Terrug) is a commune in the Finistère department of Brittany in north-western France.

Île de Térénez is a French islet inside the last bend of the river Aulne, on the territory of the commune of Rosnoën. Its highest point is 18m. Covered in woods, it is accessible by dry land at low tide and faces the Landévennec ship graveyard and Landévennec Abbey. The corniche de Térénez, running along the right bank of the Aulne for 4 kilometres, leads to the pont de Térénez, located 2.5 km further upstream. The island has several locations where recreational boaters may anchor their vessels.

Saint-Nic (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ nik]; Breton: Sant-Vig) is a commune in the Finistère department of Brittany in north-western France.

The Térénez bridge is a cable-stayed bridge, located between Landévennec and Rosnoën, Finistère, France.It is 515 meters long, and connects Brittany with the Crozon peninsula. It is a fan cable arrangement, with a curved deck. Construction commenced on 19 April 2007 and the bridge was inaugurated on 17 April 2011 and opened for general traffic later that day. It cost €35,000,000.

The Aulne (French pronunciation: [on] ; Breton: Aon) is a 144 km (89 mi) long river of Brittany in north-western France, flowing down the hills and emptying into the roadstead of Brest, one of the many fjord-like bays just south of Brest. The river is part of the Canal de Nantes à Brest, the navigation canal that once connected the city of Nantes on the Loire with the port town of Brest on the Atlantic coast. This canal is still navigable over part of its length, but sea-going traffic is interrupted by the hydro-electric dam of Guerledan, which submerged a number of the original locks of the canal. The Aulne flows through Châteaulin. The river was known to the Romans as the Alaunus, a name of uncertain etymology.

Landévennec Abbey (French: Abbaye de Landévennec, Abbaye Saint-Guénolé de Landévennec) is a Benedictine monastery at Landévennec in Brittany, in the department of Finistère, France. The present monastery is a modern foundation at the site of an early mediaeval monastery, of which only ruins survive.

The École navale is the French naval academy, in charge of the education of the officers of the French Navy. They are educated at the academy for responsibilities onboard surface ships and submarines, in French Naval Aviation, with the fusiliers marins and commandos, and on the general staff. The École navale and its research institute (IRENAV) are in Lanvéoc-Poulmic, south of the roadstead of Brest.

The Naval Academy Research Institute (IRENav) is a multidisciplinary research and scientific training center under the institutional umbrella of the École navale and the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers. Created in 2000, IRENav is labeled (EA3634) within the framework of the laboratories of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers and evaluated by the HCERES (Haut Conseil de l’évaluation de la recherche et de l’enseignement supérieur). It is also a member of the Institut Carnot Arts, a major research network that drives industrial innovation at the national level. IRENAV develops maritime and naval research activities in the fields of mechanical engineering, energy conversion and maritime information systems and underwater acoustics. IRENav is the essential support for the scientific training of Naval Engineering student cadets in the fields of Mechanics, Energy, Underwater Acoustics, Signal Processing, Computer Science and Information Systems. It is made up of about 65 research and teaching members of staff, including 25 academics and post-doctoral researchers, about 25 PhD students and 15 technical and administrative support. The institute's activities are intended to be dual, addressing both military and civilian research problems in the context of the ship of the future. Research activities are oriented towards mechanics and energy from a hydrodynamic and electrotechnical point of view, observation of the marine environment using underwater acoustic techniques (ASM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The research is conducted by two groups.
