Burghley House

St Martin's Without is a civil parish in the Peterborough unitary authority, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire, England. It was originally created in 1889 under the Local Government Act 1888 from the part of the Stamford Baron St. Martin parish which was outside the municipal boundary of Stamford. It became part of the Barnack Rural District of the Soke of Peterborough, geographically part of Northamptonshire from 1894, and under the Local Government Act 1972 has formed part of the Peterborough district of Cambridgeshire since 1974. The parish contains parts of Burghley Park.

The River Gwash, occasionally Guash, a tributary of the River Welland, flows through the English counties of Leicestershire, Rutland and Lincolnshire. It rises just outside the village of Knossington in Leicestershire, near the western edge of Rutland. It is about 39 kilometres (24 mi) long.

Newstead Priory was a priory in Lincolnshire, England, between Stamford and Uffington. It was founded as a hospital towards the end of the 12th century, and became a house of Augustinian Canons in or before 1226. Newstead Priory was situated on the River Gwash about halfway between Stamford and Uffington and near to the water mill.

St Leonard's Priory, Stamford was a priory in Lincolnshire, England. It was built in Stamford, supposedly on the site of a monastery which was founded by St Wilfrid in 658 and destroyed in the Danish invasion.It was jointly refounded by William the Conqueror and William de St-Calais, the Bishop of Durham, in c1082 and remained a cell of Durham until its dissolution in 1538.Part of the fine transitional west front and north arcade of the church survive. The ruins and site of St Leonard's Priory is a Scheduled Monument and the structure is a Grade I listed building.

Burghley Park Cricket Club is set in the park of Burghley House near Stamford, Lincolnshire. Its pavilion dates from 1892.Lincolnshire County Cricket Club played Minor Counties Championship matches at Burghley Park from 1928 to 1990.John Furley (1847 – 1909) was a club captain. W. G. Grace played at the club early in his career.

Stamford East railway station was the Stamford and Essendine Railway station in Water Street, Stamford, Lincolnshire. The line was worked by the Great Northern Railway but retained its independence until 1886, when the GNR took the line on perpetual lease.

Greyfriars, Stamford was a Franciscan friary in Stamford, Lincolnshire, England. It was one of many religious houses suppressed and closed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century. The site is now part of the NHS Stamford and Rutland Hospital.

Stamford School is a co-educational independent school in Stamford, Lincolnshire in the English public school tradition. Founded in 1532, it has been a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference since 1920. With the former Stamford High School and the coeducational Stamford Junior School, it is part of the Stamford Endowed Schools (SES). From September 2023, Stamford became co-educational.

Stamford High School was an independent school for girls in Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, situated on High Street, St Martin's. From September 2023, it merged with Stamford School to become fully co-educational.

Stamford and Rutland Hospital is an elective care hospital in Stamford, Lincolnshire administered by North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.

The University of Stamford was an academic institution founded in 1333 in Stamford, Lincolnshire, by a group of students and tutors from the University of Oxford, including Merton College and Brasenose Hall. After lobbying by the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, King Edward III suppressed the institution in 1335 and the tutors and scholars were returned to Oxford. All Oxford graduates until the 1820s were required to take an oath not to lecture in Stamford.

Whitewater Valley is a 4.3-hectare (11-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-west of Wittering in Cambridgeshire.Habitats in this site include a stream together with associated marsh, tall fen and willow carr. The carr has a varied flora, and the marsh has many plants rare in the county. There are also springs, which have mosses including the uncommon cratoneuron commutatum.The site is private land with no public access.
