Swainswick

The Anglican Church of St Mary in Swainswick within the English county of Somerset dates from the 12th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.Vestiges of the original 12th-century building can still be seen around the doorway in the south wall. However, much of the fabric is from the 14th century, when the three stage square tower and porch were added. Various alterations were made over the centuries, and a major Victorian restoration, by Charles Edward Davis, included rebuilding of the chancel.The church contains monuments to the parents of William Prynne, the Puritan parliamentarian, who was born in the village in 1600. There is a ledger slab of John Wood the Elder, architect of Georgian Bath. In the nave is the Royal coat of arms of Charles I.The parish is part of the benefice of Swainswick with Woolley within the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

Larkhall Athletic Football Club is a football club based in the Larkhall area of Bath, Somerset, England. Affiliated to the Somerset County FA, they are currently members of the Southern League Division One South and play at the Plain Ham ground.

Charlcombe is a civil parish and small village just north of Bath in the Bath and North East Somerset unitary authority, Somerset, England. The parish had a population of 422 in 2011, and includes the villages of Woolley and Langridge and the hamlet of Lansdown (not to be confused with the Bath suburb of the same name).

All Saints Church at Woolley in the parish of Charlcombe, Somerset, England, dates from 1761 and was built by John Wood, the Younger replacing an earlier church on the site. It is a Grade I listed building.The church has a nave and apsidal sanctuary topped by a small bell tower with an octagonal cupola. The pews were brought in from another church in Bath to replace the original box pews in 1903.Within the church is a plaque giving thanks for the safe return of all 13 men from the village who fought in World War I and 15 in World War II, making it one of the Thankful villages.From the 1970s to 1990s the church underwent significant restoration funded by local residents and the Friends of Wooley Church.The parish is part of the benefice of Bath St Saviour with Swainswick and Woolley, within the deanery of Bath.

St Mark's is a coeducational Church of England secondary school and sixth form located in Bath, Somerset, England. The school attracts pupils from Bath, Larkhall and Fairfield Park.In September 2009, 150 pupils were enrolled at the school. By 2020, this number rose to 370 pupils.In 2010, Bath and North East Somerset Council called a meeting to discuss the future of educational provision for the children of Larkhall and the school put forward alternative proposals to its closure. In 2011 the school formed a soft federation with St Gregory's Catholic College in Odd Down, and an executive head teacher, Raymond Friel, was appointed to be in charge of both schools. The federation has built a new joint sixth form, The New Sixth at the St Gregory's Catholic College site.Previously a voluntary aided school administered by Bath and North East Somerset Council, in May 2020 St Mark's School converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership.

The work was probably carried out by James Wilson from plans drawn up by George Gilbert Scott.There is believed to be a holy well in the grounds. Charlcombe was formerly the mother church of Bath. In acknowledgment of this Bath Abbey sent a pound of pepper on an annual basis. In 1734 Henry Fielding got married in the church.Above the nave is a small bell turret. Inside the church is a font which is as old as the church itself.The parish is part of the benefice of Charlcombe with St Stephen's Church, Bath within the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

The Rondo Theatre, in Bath, was established in 1989. The theatre is located in the former church hall of St. Saviours Church, Larkhall. The building was purchased in 1976 by Doreen and Wilf Williams, who subsequently founded The Rondo Trust for the Performing Arts. The building has been converted into a 105-seat theatre. The facility received extensive renovations and upgrades after the receipt of lottery grants in 1996 and 2003. The theatre has an active programme of outreach activities, including a youth theatre, a scriptwriters group, theatre workshops, and afternoon tea concerts.

St Saviour's Church is a Church of England parish church in Larkhall, Bath, Somerset England. The church was founded by Archdeacon Charles Moysey in 1824 following the Church Building Act 1824. St Saviour's is one of three Commissioners' churches in Bath and one of six hundred nationally.The church was constructed between 1829 and 1832 probably by architect John Pinch the younger based on a design by his father, John Pinch the elder. The church was later expanded in 1882 when a chancel was added by architect C.E. Davis.The church's crypt was opened in 1832. In October 1832, Rear-Admiral Volant Vashon Ballard was the first person to be interred in the crypt. More than 200 people were buried at the church before the burial grounds were closed in 1891. Subsequent burials took place in Locksbrook Cemetery until 1937.The church is currently led by The Reverend Michael Norman who has been rector since 1998.

Little Solsbury Hill (more commonly known as Solsbury Hill) is a small flat-topped hill and the site of an Iron Age hill fort, above the village of Batheaston in Somerset, England. The hill rises to 625 feet (191 m) above the River Avon, which is just over 1 mile (2 km) to the south, and gives views of the city of Bath and the surrounding area. It is within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The hill is one of several possible locations of the Battle of Badon and shows the remains of a medieval field system. Part of the hill was quarried in the 19th century. In 1930, it was acquired by the National Trust. The hill was the inspiration of the Peter Gabriel song "Solsbury Hill", recorded in 1977. A small turf labyrinth was cut into the turf by protesters during the widening of the A46 in 1994.

Royal Air Force Charmy Down or more simply RAF Charmy Down is a former Royal Air Force station in Somerset, England, approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) north-northeast of Bath and 96 miles (154 km) west of London. Opened in 1941, it was used initially by the RAF and from 1943 by the United States Army Air Forces, primarily as a night fighter interceptor airfield. It was closed in 1946. Today the remains of the airfield are on private property and are used as agricultural fields.

Ashcombe House at Swainswick, north-east of Bath in Somerset, England is a Gothic revival country house. It is a Grade II listed building. Ashcombe House stands on the slopes of the Lam Valley in 25 acres (100,000 m2) of grounds. It dates from the early nineteenth century, and was altered in the late nineteenth century. It started life as a hunting lodge, and there are the remains of the former kennels in the grounds. The 1900 1:10,560 scale (6 inch) Ordnance Survey map shows the building was known at that time as Ashcombe Farm, with Ashcombe Wood lying to the north-east of it. The house has a rear wing constructed from a converted coach house and stables, and has nine bedrooms and six reception rooms, including a Georgian ballroom. The house was on the market in 2003 for £1.6 million.Musician Peter Gabriel rented the property between 1978 and 1987 as his family home and converted the house's barn into his home studio, where he recorded three of his albums: his 1982 album Peter Gabriel, commonly known as 4 (or as Security in the US); the soundtrack for the film Birdy, which he recorded between October and December 1984; and his album So, recorded in 1985 and released in 1986. The track "My Secret Place" from the Joni Mitchell album Chalk Mark in a Rain Storm was recorded at Gabriel's studio at Ashcombe House in 1986, as were parts of the 1987 Robbie Robertson album Robbie Robertson (although the sleeve credits erroneously locate Ashcombe House in London).
