Sewell.It was Grade II listed in 2015 by Historic England.The pub has appeared in the TV series Goodnight Sweetheart, and the 1998 film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.In July 2020, the previously independently ran pub was bought by the chain Young's.

The building has 19-storeys, at a total height of 59 m (194 ft).Sivill House was designed in the Constructivist style by Douglas Bailey, Francis Skinner and Berthold Lubetkin, the successors to the Tecton Group, and was completed in 1962. The nearby Dorset Estate was also designed by the same team.

The Apollo Music Hall, also known as the Red Cross Public House, was a building at 25 Hare Street, Bethnal Green. Built in 1854 at a cost of £3,000, it had a capacity of 600. It was licensed from 1854 until 1871. The music hall attracted young people that would "mimic popular comic songs, accompanied by a three-piece orchestra" during the week, and on Sundays the Salvation Army held church services that included gospel singing.

Hackney Road is a London arterial route running from Shoreditch Church in London Borough of Hackney to Cambridge Heath in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The route runs along the northern edge of Bethnal Green and southern edge of Hoxton and Haggerston. It lies close to the border between the boroughs of London Boroughs of Hackney and Tower Hamlets. In recent years, Hackney Road has begun to experience the gentrification of nearby Columbia Road or Broadway Market. Despite this, a number of derelict buildings still remain, including the empty Children's Hospital. The road also has striptease venues such as Browns and The Olde Axe (Clifton 2002), a bingo hall, fast-food outlets and building sites. Hackney City Farm is located at the junction of (intersection with) Goldsmith's Row on the northern (Hackney) side of the road. Next to the farm is Haggerston Park. In 2008 a 178-room Days Hotel London Shoreditch opened at the junction with Pritchard's Road. This has since become the RE Hotel London Shoreditch.

Cheshire Street is a street in east London linking Brick Lane with Bethnal Green and Whitechapel. It has had various names in its history, such as Hare Street, and today forms part of Brick Lane Market on Sundays. The Cheshire Street part of the market is home to various Bric A Brac stalls; prior to the area become popular with artists, the market was a source of basic items (clothes, toys etc.) for working people from the East End. The street runs parallel to the former Bishopsgate Goods Yard and the main railway track into Liverpool Street and the railway viaduct that used to carry trains into the good yard is one of the oldest brick rail viaducts in the world, the listed Braithwaite Viaduct. It is possible to see the original brick work of this viaduct from Grimsby Street, a tributary of Cheshire Street. The old Carpenters Arms pub, now re-opened, is also located on Cheshire Street. The notorious Kray twins bought the pub for their mother, who used to hold court in it at weekends. According to the last proprietors of the pub, the Krays installed a bespoke bar surface during the time they owned the pub - the surface employed was allegedly a coffin lid. Reggie Kray's funeral procession went along Cheshire Street in 2000. The Bath House on Cheshire Street is home to the Repton Boxing Club, London's oldest boxing gym, alma mater to boxers such as Maurice Hope, Billy Walker, and Audley Harrison, and underworld figures such as "Mad" Frankie Fraser and Ray Barton. The Hauser & Wirth Coppermill art gallery on Cheshire Street held several exhibitions between 2005 and 2007, including shows by Martin Kippenberger, Dieter Roth, Christoph Büchel and Martin Creed, before the site was redeveloped.The nearest London Underground stations are Bethnal Green and Whitechapel.
