Hadspen House

Hadspen Quarry is a stone quarry in Somerset, England. It is shown on Ordnance Survey maps for 1888–90, and may have been in operation for a considerable period before that.It supplies natural stone walling throughout the West Country. The products include coursed, coursed random and random rubble walling. The stone is still split and dressed at the quarry located close to Hadspen house and garden in the small village of Hadspen, within the parish of Pitcombe just outside Castle Cary. This golden colour limestone is seen in buildings in western Dorset and the surrounding areas, as can be seen at the Fleet Street site in Beaminster. Other products include name plaques, sawn ashlar quoins and capping stones. The stone is an Inferior Oolite of the Garantiana Beds, dating back to the Middle Jurassic.In 2007 Somerset County Council agreed a proposal to extend the size of the quarry by 0.3 hectares (0.74 acres).

The River Pitt, also known as the Piddy, is a short tributary of the River Brue in Somerset, England. It rises near Hardway in the parish of Brewham, and flows for 5.5 miles (8.9 km) through the parishes of Shepton Montague and Pitcombe to join the Brue at Cole.

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Wyke Champflower, Bruton, Somerset, England, dates from 1623 and has been designated as a Grade I listed building.A wooden tympanum between the nave and chancel bears the 1624 Royal Arms, the arms of the then Bishop of Bath and Wells and the Archbishop of Canterbury. The pews are Jacobean pews and the large stone pulpit Elizabethan. The font cover is from a similar era.The church contains a black-and-white marble monument commemorating Henry Southworth, who was the Lord of the Manor of Wyke, who died in 1625 and funded the construction of the church. In the graveyard is a memorial stone erected in 2002 for Edward Blair Michell (1843–1926) who may be buried there. Michell was a renowned falconer who authored the excellent treatise on falconry "The Art And Practice of Hawking", London 1900. Michell's house is across the road from the church and manor house. The parish is part of the benefice of Bruton and District which falls within the Bruton and Cary deanery.

Cole (for Bruton) railway station was a station on the Somerset and Dorset Railway in South Somerset, serving the village of Cole, which is now virtually joined to the village of Pitcombe and the town of Bruton. Cole was the station where the Dorset Central Railway line from Templecombe met the Somerset Central Railway line from Glastonbury and Street railway station in 1862. Later that year the two companies combined to form the Somerset and Dorset Railway. Just north of the station the line crossed the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Railway although the two railways were not connected here. The goods yard closed on 5 April 1965 and Cole station was closed with the railway in the Beeching cuts in 1966.

Somerton and Frome is a constituency in Somerset represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2023 by Sarah Dyke of the Liberal Democrats. It was formerly represented by David Warburton, who was elected as a Conservative, but latterly sat as an Independent after losing the Conservative whip in April 2022 following allegations of misconduct. Warburton resigned as an MP on 17 June 2023, thus triggering the first by-election in this constituency since its creation at the 1983 general election. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat will be subject to major boundary changes, with the town of Frome and surrounding rural areas in the (former) District of Mendip being incorporated into the newly created constituency of Frome and East Somerset. To partly compensate, the towns of Glastonbury and Street will be transferred in from the constituency of Wells (to be renamed Wells and Mendip Hills). As a consequence, the constituency will be renamed Glastonbury and Somerton, to be first contested at the next general election.

Ansford Academy, previously known as Ansford School, is a school located in Ansford, which lies on the northern edge of Castle Cary in Somerset, England. The current principal is Rachel Purnell. In July 2011, the school became an Academy. The redbrick Neo-Georgian main school building was completed in 1940 with additional classrooms for Science, Technology, Modern Languages, Art, ICT and a block for mathematics being added in the 1970/90s. A new £1.7 million Sports Centre was completed in 2005.In the school's most recent Ofsted inspection, which took place between the 2nd and 3rd March 2022, a 'good' rating was given for every assessed category including overall effectiveness.The associated sixth form college for Ansford Academy is Strode College.

Bruton School for Girls was an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 2 to 18, near Pitcombe in Bruton in south east Somerset, England. By the 2009, the school comprised Sunny Hill Nursery, Sunny Hill Prep, a senior school and a sixth form with an overall attendance of approximately 250 pupils, of whom a third were boarders. A small number of boys also attended the pre-school and pre-prep.

Cary Castle stood on Lodge Hill overlooking the town of Castle Cary, Somerset, England. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

Ansford is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated on the northern edge of Castle Cary. The civil parish has a population of approximately 1,175.The village lies on the A371, close to Castle Cary railway station and the River Brue, where the bridge dates from 1823.

Castle Cary () is a market town and civil parish in south Somerset, England, 5 miles (8 km) north west of Wincanton and 8 miles (12.9 km) south of Shepton Mallet, at the foot of Lodge Hill and on the River Cary, a tributary of the Parrett.

All Saints Church in Castle Cary in the English county of Somerset dates from 1470 and is notable for its high steeple. It is a Grade II* listed building.The parish is within the benefice of Castle Cary with Ansford which is part of the archdeaconry of Wells.

Pitcombe is a village and civil parish 1 mile (2 km) south-west of Bruton and 5 miles (8 km) from Wincanton in Somerset, England. It has a population of 532. The parish includes the hamlets of Cole and Godminster. The village lies on the River Pitt and other streams that flow into the River Brue. Godminster Lane Quarry and Railway Cutting is a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest important for study of the Inferior Oolite limestones of Middle Jurassic age. The rocks do contain the rich assemblage of fossil ammonites typical of the north Dorset/south Somerset area. It is also important as a reference site for three sub-divisions (zones) of the Inferior Oolite — the laeviscula, discites and concavum Zones.
