Inverclyde

Inverclyde is a parliamentary constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It replaced Greenock and Inverclyde and the Port Glasgow and Kilmacolm areas from West Renfrewshire for the 2005 general election. Iain McKenzie of the Labour Party won the ensuing Inverclyde by-election following the death of the previous Labour MP, David Cairns. At the 2015 general election, the seat was gained by Ronnie Cowan of the Scottish National Party, with a majority of 11,063 votes. At the 2017 snap election, Cowan was re-elected, but with a greatly reduced majority of just 384 votes. However, at the 2019 general election he was re-elected with a significantly increased majority of 7,512 votes, making this a safe seat for the SNP. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat will be expanded to include western areas of Renfrewshire, including Bridge of Weir, Houston and Crosslee. As a consequence, it will be renamed Inverclyde and Renfrewshire West, to be first contested at the next general election.

The Gryffe Reservoirs, also spelled 'Gryfe', take their name from the River Gryffe, name deriving from the Gaelic garbh meaning "rough stream". are two reservoirs, known as Gryffe No. 1 and Gryffe No. 2, located in Inverclyde in the west central Lowlands of Scotland.

Loch Thom is a reservoir which since 1827 has provided a water supply to the town of Greenock in Inverclyde, Scotland. It is named after the civil engineer Robert Thom who designed the scheme which created the reservoir and delivered water via a long aqueduct known as The Cut. Today, as well as providing a water supply, the loch is used for sport fishing and forms part of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park with several attractive walks and a centre at Cornalees Bridge providing nature study facilities. The loch is about 2.4 km from north to south, curving to the east in a rough C-shape, and is at an elevation of about 195 m above sea level. From the northern arm an outlet feeds southwest a short distance to a compensation reservoir at the centre of the "C", which then connects at Cornalees Bridge to the start of The Cut.

Whinhill railway station is a railway station located in the east of the town of Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail and is on the Inverclyde Line, 2+1⁄4 miles (3.6 km) from Port Glasgow and 22+1⁄2 miles (36.2 km) from Glasgow Central. Opened in 1990, it is one of the newer stations on the line constructed by British Rail. Its opening made the line available to users in the south-east of Greenock for the first time in almost thirty years, since the closure of Upper Greenock station.

Cartsdyke (Scots: Cairstdyke, Scottish Gaelic: Gàradh Cairte), formerly known as Crawfurdsdyke, is a suburb of the town of Greenock, Scotland.Crawfurdsdyke is an historic Burgh of Barony, historically being part of the Barony of Cartsburn. The estate of Cartsburn, also known as Crawfurdsburn, incorporated the lands of Cartsdyke and part of the lands of Easter Greenock Castle. The Barony of Cartsburn is a feudal Barony of Scotland. The seat of the Barony was the House of Cartsburn, built in the 17th century near Greenock, Renfrewshire. While the ancient Burgh was subsumed into Greenock in 1840. It is served by Cartsdyke railway station.

Greenock Central station is one of eight railway stations serving the town of Greenock in western Scotland, and is the nearest to the town centre. This station, which is staffed, is on the Inverclyde Line, 37 km (23 mi) west of Glasgow Central towards Gourock. It has three platforms, two of which are in use, with one disused bay platform. This disused platform is still connected to the main line. It was originally the terminus before the railway was extended to Gourock and at that time was known as Greenock Cathcart station, as the access road to the station leads off the town's Cathcart Street.

Wellington Academy was a secondary school at Dempster Street in Greenock, Scotland serving the Eastern and Central areas of the town. In 2007 it merged with Greenock High School to form Inverclyde Academy. The 'Welly' was opened in August 1990, as a merger between Grovepark and Cowdeknowes High Schools. The school closed at the end of the 2007 summer term, with a roll of only around 450 pupils. The last head boy and head girl were Jonathan Glass and Mhairi Lyle. The last head teacher was Mr Billy Paul. The site the school once stood on has now been cleared, although the fencing and walls surrounding the school (from the days when the Mount School stood on the site) are retained. The site is proposed to be used for the location of the new Greenock Health Centre building.

Cartsdyke railway station serves part of the town of Greenock, Scotland. The station is on the Inverclyde Line, 22 miles (35 km) west of Glasgow Central. The station is situated between Bawhirley Road and McDougall Street and it serves passengers going to and from Gourock and Glasgow. It is the nearest station to Cappielow, home of Greenock Morton F.C. Aside from the daily commuter traffic, some Saturday afternoons consequently are the busiest period of time for this station, which is only staffed for a few hours each day.

Drumfrochar railway station is a railway station located in a residential district in the south-western part of Greenock, Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail and is on the Inverclyde Line, 23 miles (37 km) west of Glasgow Central. Upon exiting the station to the west, one is confronted with panoramic views over the south-west of the town, including Greenock prison. Opened on 24 May 1998, it is the newest station on the line. The station is on the site of the Greenock rail accident in 1994.
