Herzogstand Radio Station

Stein is a mountain in Bavaria, Germany, located south-east of Kochel am See over Lake Kochel.

The Walchensee Power Plant (German: Walchenseekraftwerk) is a hydroelectric power station in Bavaria, Germany. It is a storage power station that is fed water from the Walchensee which is then released into the Kochelsee. The installed capacity is 124 MW with an annual production of 300 GWh. The power plant is south of Kochelsee, about 14 km (8.7 mi) from the village of Walchensee. It is one of the largest of its kind in Germany and has been owned by Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH since 2016.

The Herzogstand is a mountain in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps, 75 kilometres (47 mi) south of the city of Munich. It has an elevation of 1,731 metres (5,679 ft) and is northwest of Lake Walchen. Maximilian II of Bavaria had a hunting lodge built underneath today's so-called Herzogstand-house in 1857. His successor, King Ludwig II, had a royal lodge built further up the mountain in 1865. The Herzogstand Cable Car renewed in 1994 following a fire in 1992, runs to Herzogstand-house at 1,575 metres (5,167 ft) above sea level, and then continues on to the summit of Farnkopf at 1,627 metres (5,338 ft). The most popular ascent (AV way 446) leads from the valley station of the aerial tramway across the south side to Herzogstand-house and on to the summit of the mountain. An alternative descent leads along the somewhat exposed but well-secured ridge to the Heimgarten mountain (1,790 metres/5,870 ft), passing a lodge to the south of the Ohlstaedter Alm (1,423 metres/4,669 ft). The descent east of the Rotwandkopf continues down to the spa town of Walchensee (Kochel).

Kochelsee or Lake Kochel is a lake 70 kilometres (43 mi) south of Munich on the edge of the Bavarian Alps. The western 1.7 km² or 28.3 percent of the lake lies within the borders of the town of Schlehdorf, while the rest belongs to Kochel am See. The southern edge of the lake lies up against the mountains and the northern shore is bordered by bog lands. The history of the settlement of Kochel (previously Quochcalun) begins with Birg bei Altjoch, a rock extrusion on the shore of the lake. The name Kochel is derived from the Latin cocula meaning head or cone. The Loisach flows into the lake at Schlehdorf and flows out at Kochel am See. A similar amount of water flows into the lake from the Isar through the Lake Walchen Power Plant.

Urfeld am Walchensee is a village in the municipality of Kochel am See in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in Bavaria, Germany. It lies on the northwest shore of Lake Walchensee.

Schlehdorf is a municipality in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in Bavaria in Germany. Schlehdorf Abbey is located there.

Schlehdorf Abbey (German: Kloster Schlehdorf) was originally a Benedictine monastery, later an Augustinian monastery, and is today a convent of the Missionary Dominican Sisters of King William's Town. It is located at Schlehdorf, on the extreme northern edge of the Bavarian Alps on the Kochelsee south of Munich, Germany.

The Herzogstand Cable Car (German: Herzogstandbahn) was built in 1994 as replacement for a 4,500-foot (1,400 m) chair lift through the Bavarian alps. Its two cabins carry passengers from the village of Walchensee (800 metres/2,600 ft above NN) to the Fahrenberg mountain (1,600 metres/5,200 ft above NN) on the upper slopes of the Herzogstand mountain. The cableway uses a 43 mm (1.7 in) carrying cable and a 21 mm (0.83 in) hauling cable. The cable car is driven by a 185 kilowatt engine. The cable way has two supports, which are 28 metres (92 ft) and 24 metres (79 ft) high. The journey time each way is four minutes and the cars reach a top speed of 8 metres per second (18 mph).

Walchensee is a small fishing village in the Kochel municipality (Landkreis Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Upper Bavaria) at a height of 803 metres and a population of 250 plus tourists. It is located directly on the western banks of the Lake of the same name. Human settlement begun around 1130 by erection of a house for fishermen.The federal highway Bundesstraße 11 runs through the town which is heavily visited by tourists (outdoor recreation). The nearest train station is Kochel a. See (11.2 km) which is connected by bus (line # 9608 by Regionalverkehr Oberbayern / DB Oberbayernbus). The aerial tramway Herzogstand Cable Car starts here.

Walchensee or Lake Walchen is one of the deepest and largest alpine lakes in Germany, with a maximum depth of 192.3 metres (631 ft) and an area of 16.4 square kilometres (6.3 sq mi). The lake is 75 kilometres (47 mi) south of Munich in the middle of the Bavarian Alps. The entire lake, including the island of Sassau, is within the municipality of Kochel. The lake and island are owned by the Bavarian State. To the east and the south, the lake borders the municipality of Jachenau.

The Franz Marc Museum is a museum located in Kochel am See, Upper Bavaria, dedicated to German Expressionist painter Franz Marc. The museum shows paintings by Franz Marc, and also works of art of his contemporaries and other important artists of the 20th century, in a permanent and in temporary exhibitions.

Kochel am See is a municipality and a town in the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in Bavaria, on the shores of Kochelsee. The municipality consists of the districts Altjoch, Brunnenbach, Ort, Pessenbach, Pfisterberg, Walchensee and Ried.
