The Fritz Thyssen Foundation (German: Fritz Thyssen Stiftung) is a private nonprofit foundation in Germany, created on 7 July 1959 by Amélie Thyssen and Anita Gräfin Zichy-Thyssen and named in memory of prominent iron and steel manufacturer August Thyssen and his son Fritz, who became a major financial backer of the ascendant Nazi Party in the early 1930s.The Thyssen family generated significant wealth in the late 19th century as producers of coal, iron and steel. August Thyssen founded Thyssen & Co. KG in Mülheim in 1871 and, over the following decades, established iron- and steelmaking plants throughout the Ruhr region of Germany. Following August's death in 1926, Fritz Thyssen assumed control of the iron and steel empire. In 1932, Thyssen signed a petition urging German President Paul von Hindenburg to appoint Adolf Hitler to the German chancellorship. The following year, he orchestrated a meeting between Hitler and influential German industrialists, which significantly increased support for the Third Reich among leaders of major companies. Thyssen officially joined the Nazi Party in 1933. Following World War II, a German denazification court found him guilty of being a "minor Nazi offender" and ordered him to surrender a portion of his property to a compensation program for victims of Nazi persecution.Thyssen's wife Amélie, also a member of the Nazi Party, inherited control of the iron and steel business following her husband's death in 1951. She used proceeds from the sale of shares in August Thyssen-Hütte AG to create the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, for which she was awarded the second highest Order of Merit in the Federal Republic of Germany.Today, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation supports research in the fields of history, language and culture, state, economics, society and medicine, devoting special attention to support for junior researchers. The award of grants to doctoral graduates and the funding of staff positions in projects is intended to advance scientific research. The foundation is based in Cologne.

The Bertelsmann Stiftung is an independent foundation under private law, based in Gütersloh, Germany. It was founded in 1977 by Reinhard Mohn as the result of social, corporate and fiscal considerations. As the Bertelsmann Stiftung itself has put it, the foundation promotes "reform processes" and "the principles of entrepreneurial activity" to build a "future-oriented society."Since 1993, the Bertelsmann Stiftung has held the majority of capital shares in the Bertelsmann Group. It holds 80.9% together with the Reinhard Mohn Stiftung and the BVG Stiftung but has no voting rights.

Neue Stimmen (New Voices) is an international singing competition. It was established in 1987 on the initiative of Liz Mohn with the support of August Everding to promote operas young talent. It is considered an important forum for new talent, one that has marked the beginning of international careers for many participants. The singing competition was hosted every two years by the Bertelsmann Stiftung in Gütersloh, most recently in June 2022.

King's School was a secondary school in Gütersloh, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Serving the children of British military families stationed in the area, it is the largest school in Service Children's Education. It was the only SCE secondary school in the area and also served children from bases in Bielefeld, Herford, Detmold, and Paderborn.

Menkebach is a river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Dalke east of Gütersloh. It has a length of 20.1 km.

The Stadtpark und Botanischer Garten Gütersloh (15.5 hectares) is a municipal park with botanical garden (3 hectares) located at Parkstraße, Gütersloh, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a member of the European Garden Heritage Network and open daily without charge. The park was created between 1906 and 1909 to designs by garden architect Friedrich Wilhelm Schoedder (1855-1938), with the botanical garden added to its northeastern corner in 1912. A palm house was constructed in 1938 but destroyed in World War II; it has subsequently been restored and now houses a café. A rose garden was created in 1941, followed by a birch grove (1950), mini golf course (1960), orchard (1990), herb garden (1998), and sculpture garden (2000). Today the park retains its original design, broadly patterned upon an English landscape park, with an elongated axis, wide curving paths, lawns, and numerous trees, as well as a meadow flooded for ice-skating in the winter. The botanical garden is laid out as a display garden, with geometric pools, arcades, and high hornbeam hedges. The orchard contains a number of heritage fruit varieties including Westfälischer Gülderling and Schöner aus Wiedenbrück.

Lycos Europe was a pan-European network of websites, offering services including communication tools, online communities, web search, e-commerce, web hosting, homepage building and Internet access. It was an independent corporation, sharing no corporate structure with Lycos, Inc. (USA) other than the licensed use of their name in Europe, but Lycos Europe was formed as a joint-venture between Bertelsmann and Telefonica, who owned Lycos Inc. through Terra Lycos. On 26 November 2008, Lycos Europe announced that it was to shut down and sell its remaining assets.

Gütersloh Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station in Gütersloh in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is on the electrified, four-track main line from the Ruhr to Hanover, opened in 1847 as part of the trunk line of the former Cologne-Minden Railway Company. Services of the Warendorf Railway also run from Münster via Rheda-Wiedenbrück and the Hamm–Minden line to Gütersloh. Gütersloh Hauptbahnhof (Hbf) is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station. In the station building there is a tourist bureau, where tickets can be purchased. There is also has a restaurant/bistro, a bakery, a mini-supermarket and a station bookshop.

The Volksbank Bielefeld-Gütersloh eG is a regional cooperative bank based in the East Westphalian district town of Gütersloh. With a balance sheet total of € 4.44 billion, it is the third-largest Volksbank in North Rhine-Westphalia and, with 108,600 members, the largest association of individuals in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region (as of 2018). The bank emerged from the merger of the Volksbank Gütersloh with the smaller Bielefelder Volksbank on May 22, 2014.The Volksbank Bielefeld-Gütersloh's branches and self-service terminals are located in Bielefeld, Gütersloh, Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Verl (excluding Kaunitz), Steinhagen, Herzebrock, Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock, Rietberg-Bokel, Langenberg-Benteler and Versmold-Peckeloh. Two self-service terminals are located in corporate buildings of Bertelsmann.

FC Gütersloh is a German association football club based in Gütersloh, North Rhine-Westphalia.

Heidewaldstadion is an association football stadium in Gütersloh, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the biggest football stadium in Kreis Gütersloh and currently has a capacity of 8,400 spectators. It is the home stadium of the FC Gütersloh football team playing in the Oberliga Westfalen. The Heidewaldstadion is located in the Sundern district on the southern outskirts of Gütersloh. The stadium takes its name from the small wooded area to the west of the stadium. The Heidewaldstraße runs south of the stadium, where the V.I.P. parking spaces are also located. In August 2017, the club sold the sponsor name to Energieversum, a Gütersloh-based company from the photovoltaics. The stadium is officially called Energieversum Stadion, for sponsorship reason. The Portugal national team based their training camp for the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals at Marienfeld in Kreis Gütersloh, so a public training session of the soccer stars took place in Gütersloh. The stadium also hosted a game of the 4th World Football Championships for para-athletes with an intellectual disability (Russia vs. Northern Ireland 0-0). The Turkey national team prepared for the UEFA Euro 2008 at Marienfeld, too, and had a public training session in the Heidewaldstadion on May, 22nd.
