The St Andrews Rail Link (StARLink) Campaign was established in 1989 with the aim of reconnecting Scottish town of St Andrews to the railway. The historical St Andrews Railway, which had connected St Andrews to the mainline via Leuchars Junction was closed on 6 January 1969. Unlike the earlier closure of the Anstruther & St Andrews Railway in 1965, the St Andrews Railway was not recommended for closure in the (1963) Beeching Report. The closure, ordered four years after Beeching's departure in 1965, was ordered by Richard Marsh, Minister for Transport in the 1964-1970 (Labour) government of Prime Minister Harold Wilson, and whilst some Beeching closures did take place after the departure of Beeching in 1965, the St Andrews closure was not an instance of such. The original reinstatement plan espoused by StARLink was simply a reestablishment of the historical Leuchars - St Andrews line but since the publication in 2012 of a report by Tata Steel Rail Consultancy StARLink now advocates an entirely new 21st-century layout with a twin-cord high-speed rail link travelling west and southwards via Cupar and northwards via Leuchars. StARLink has estimated that the railway could be reinstated for £76 million. A 2008 survey by StARLink of St Andrews residents and commuters found that 78% of those respondents who did not use buses would use the railway instead; the group had sent out 20,000 questionnaires in December 2007.This line has been identified by the Campaign for Better Transport as a priority 1 candidate for reopening.

Guardbridge (Scots: Gairbrig) is a village in the north-east of Fife, on the east coast of Scotland. It is approximately 3 miles (5 km) north-west of St Andrews, and is situated on the estuary of the River Eden, at the junction of the A91 road between St Andrews and Stirling and the A919/A914 road between Leuchars and the Tay Road Bridge. Guardbridge has a number of local amenities including a school, general store, garages, hotel, takeaway food shop, hairdresser, furniture maker, and bowling and fishing clubs. The village has also become a very popular dormitory settlement due to its close proximity to St Andrews and Dundee.

Eden Mill St Andrews is a specialist independent Scotch whisky distillery and microbrewery and based in Guardbridge, Scotland, about 3 miles (5 km) north-west of St Andrews. It is located on a 38-acre (15 ha) site owned by the University of St Andrews. Brewing began in July 2012 and the brewery was "on track to lift turnover from £500,000 in its first full year to around £2 million in 2014".Eden Mill became Scotland's first combined distillery and brewery when they began the production of Scotch whisky and gin in 2014.

Leuchars Station (IATA: ADX, ICAO: EGQL) is a British Army installation located in Leuchars, Fife, on the east coast of Scotland, near to the historic town of St Andrews. Formerly RAF Leuchars, it was the second most northerly air defence station in the United Kingdom (the most northerly being RAF Lossiemouth). The station ceased to be an RAF station in April 2015 when control of the site was transferred to the Army.

Royal Air Force Leuchars or more simply RAF Leuchars (IATA: ADX, ICAO: EGQL) is a former Royal Air Force station located in Leuchars, Fife, on the east coast of Scotland. Throughout the Cold War and beyond, the station was home to fighter aircraft which policed northern UK airspace. The station ceased to be an RAF station at 12:00 hrs on 31 March 2015 when it became Leuchars Station and control of the site was transferred to the British Army. The RAF temporarily returned to Leuchars between August and October 2020 to carry out QRA (I) responsibilities while runway works were being carried out at RAF Lossiemouth.

Craigtoun Country Park is a country park located approximately 2 miles to the south-west of St Andrews in the county of Fife, Scotland. The site is currently owned by Fife Council, with park amenities being operated as of 2012 by the charitable organisation Friends of Craigtoun Park. The park was originally part of the Mount Melville Estate, 47 acres (19 ha) of which was purchased by Fife County Council for £25,000 in 1947.

The River Eden is a river in Fife in Scotland, and is one of Fife's two principal rivers, along with the Leven. It is nearly 30 miles (48 km) long and has a fall of around 300 feet (91 m).

The Craigtoun Park Railway is a 15 in (381 mm) gauge railway operating on a circular track around part of the Craigtoun Country Park in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. The gauge employed is usually associated with more extensive railway operations, including public transport services on railways such as the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway in Kent, England. However, the Craigtoun Park Railway operates on a circuit of approximately 400 yards (366 m), and purely as an attraction for families enjoying a day out in the public park owned by Fife Council but operated by the voluntary group The Friends of Craigtoun. The rolling stock, all built by Severn Lamb, consists of two open and one semi-open 'toast-rack' carriages, with motive power provided by a 2-8-0DH steam-outline locomotive built in 1973, designed to resemble a steam locomotive of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. The 15 in (381 mm) gauge railway has been running at Craigtoun since 1976.

Leuchars railway station ( LEW-khərs, sometimes known as Leuchars (for St. Andrews)) serves the towns of Leuchars and St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. The station is the last northbound stop before Dundee. The station was built as Leuchars Junction station for the route over the Tay Bridge to Dundee, the previous Leuchars station being on the line to Tayport. There are buses and taxis available to transfer passengers to nearby St. Andrews, which does not have its own railway station; integrated tickets with the destination "St Andrews Bus" are sold. The station is located near Leuchars Station, a British Army installation, formerly RAF Leuchars airbase. Previous station operator First ScotRail announced plans during March 2008 to erect a wind turbine to meet the electricity requirements of the station, and hope to generate a small surplus of electricity which they can sell back to the National Grid. Leuchars will be the first station to be powered this way, and if the project, which was funded by Transport Scotland proves successful, it may be rolled out across other stations.

Earlshall Castle is a restored 16th century courtyard castle, near Leuchars Station about 1⁄2 mile (800 metres) east of Leuchars, Fife, Scotland.It has been described as “a perfect example of a 16/17th century mansion”.
