Chester Square (Boston)

The Camden Street Development Historic District is a historic district encompassing a cluster of municipally owned residential apartment blocks in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It consists of three nearly identical buildings centered on Shawmut Avenue between Camden Street and Brannon Harris Way. The blocks were built in 1949 by the city to provide housing to low-income African-American veterans, and have had only minimal alteration since then. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2022.

The Tremont Street Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 740 Tremont Street in Boston, Massachusetts, was built in 1862 from a design by architect Hammatt Billings. In the late 1960s it became the New Hope Baptist Church.

The Hotel Alexandra, historically the Walworth Building, is a High Victorian Gothic structure built in the 1870s with a sandstone facade at the corner of Washington Street and Massachusetts Avenue in the South End of Boston, Massachusetts. The structure is located within the South End Landmark District which was established in 1983.

Northampton station was an elevated rapid transit station located above Washington Street at Massachusetts Avenue in the South End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It served the Washington Street Elevated, part of the MBTA's Orange Line, from 1901 until 1987. Massachusetts Avenue station, a street-level bus station on the Washington Street branch of the MBTA Silver Line bus rapid transit service, opened on the site in 2002. It is served by the SL4 and SL5 Silver Line routes as well as several local MBTA bus routes. Like all Silver Line stops, Massachusetts Avenue is accessible.

Lenox Street is a street-level bus station on the Washington Street branch of the MBTA Silver Line bus rapid transit service. It is located on Washington Street at Lenox Street in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. The stop is served by the SL4 and SL5 Silver Line routes as well as several local MBTA bus routes. Like all Silver Line stops, Lenox Street is accessible. Silver Line service on Washington Street began on July 20, 2002, replacing the route 49 bus. Service levels doubled on October 13, 2009, with the introduction of the SL4 route.

Worcester Square station is a street-level bus station on the Washington Street branch of the MBTA Silver Line bus rapid transit service. It is located on Washington Street at Worcester Square in the South End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts near the Boston Medical Center. The stop is served by the SL4 and SL5 Silver Line routes as well as several local MBTA bus routes. Like all Silver Line stops, Worcester Square is accessible. Silver Line service on Washington Street began on July 20, 2002, replacing the route 49 bus. Worcester Square, which had been a stop for route 49, was not initially served by the Silver Line; it became a Silver Line stop on November 30, 2002. Shelters were added later.: 2.5  Service levels doubled on October 15, 2009, with the introduction of the SL4 route.

Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen is a live entertainment venue and Soul food restaurant in the South End of Boston (some people consider the neighborhood to be Roxbury). Currently owned by Nia Grace, Boston (magazine) named it 2021 Best Southern and Soul Food. The original owner was Darryl Settles, who sold it to Grace in September 2018.They are known for their Jazz Brunch though they do have live entertainment other times.

Wally's Cafe located in the South End of Boston, Massachusetts, and claims to be among the oldest continually operating jazz clubs in the United States.Wally's was founded by Joseph L. Walcott who was a Barbadian who immigrated to America in 1910. After reaching Ellis Island, Mr. Walcott, better known as "Wally," joined his brother, who had migrated a few years earlier, in Boston. Wally held many jobs, and with his savings he opened Wally's Paradise at 428 Massachusetts Avenue in 1947. Wally was the first African American to own a nightclub in New England; he brought new acts to town and the nightclub became an attraction for jazz aficionados who rushed to see the famous bands of the day. The Sixties arrived, and the Big Band era was diminishing. Wally maintained his commitment to jazz by featuring young musicians who were attending prominent academic institutions such as Berklee College of Music, the Boston Conservatory, and the New England Conservatory of Music. Mr. Walcott hired these young music students and mixed them with seasoned professionals who were veterans of the Big Band era. This mix of talent was special, and the format enabled Mr. Walcott to continue to serve the jazz loving audiences of New England. In 1979, Wally closed its original location at 428 Massachusetts Avenue and moved across the street to 427 Massachusetts Avenue, the present location of the nightclub. Wally's Café now features live music 365 days a year. Many of the musicians are professionals, but Wally's still maintains its tradition of providing students with a stage to perfect their craft. After Wally's death in 1998 at age 101, his three children took over the bar, and today Wally's is a family club managed by Walcott's daughter, Elynor, and his three grandsons, Paul, Frank, and Lloyd Poindexter.

The Ascension-Caproni Historic District encompasses a mixed collection of late 19th and early 20th century architecture along Washington, Newcomb, and Thorndike Streets in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. Including religious, residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, it encapsulates the area's transition from industrial to residential uses between about 1850 and 1930. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.

The Harriet Tubman Memorial, also known as Step on Board, is located in Harriet Tubman Park in the South End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It honours the life of abolitionist Harriet Tubman. It was the first memorial erected in Boston to a woman on city-owned property.The memorial is a 10-foot tall bronze sculpture by artist Fern Cunningham and depicts Tubman leading a small group of people. She holds a Bible under her right arm. The figures are backed by a vertical slab, on the reverse of which is a diagram of the route Tubman took when accompanying passengers on the Underground Railroad, and several quotes by and about Tubman. The inscription on the back of the memorial reads: Locations along the Underground Railroad are shown along an arc: Canada, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, New York City, Philadelphia, Delaware, and Maryland.

Massachusetts Avenue station is a rapid transit station in the South End and Symphony neighborhoods of Boston, Massachusetts. It serves the MBTA Orange Line, and is located at 380 Massachusetts Avenue. The station opened in 1987 as part of the renovation and relocation of the southern Orange Line into the Southwest Corridor. The Orange line runs parallel to the Northeast Corridor, which carries Amtrak trains and several MBTA commuter rail lines. The entire Orange Line, including Massachusetts Avenue station, will be closed from August 19 to September 18, 2022, during maintenance work.

Harriet Tubman Park, also known as Harriet Tubman Square, is located in the South End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. It honors the life of abolitionist Harriet Tubman.The park is located on a triangular traffic island previously known as Columbus Square, which was developed by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department with funding from the Browne Fund, the Henderson Foundation and the New England Arts Foundation.The park's brick paving is inlaid with decorative bronze pavers which depict aspects of the story of the Underground Railroad. Located in the park are two sculptures: the Harriet Tubman Memorial, created by Fern Cunningham, and Emancipation, sculpted by Meta Vaux Warrick Fuller on the fiftieth anniversary of Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation.The park was designed by CBA Landscape Architects and won a Boston Society of Landscape Architects Merit Award for Design. It is a stop on the Boston Women's Heritage Trail.
